Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
^ I can only hope. And hopefully this time Cleveland Scene's "HOW DARE THEY ADD 90 SECONDS TO OUR COMMUTE?!?!" campaign doesn't succeed.

Cleveland: Downtown: The Avenue District
Heard a rumor of a major investment bank opening a 50-75 person office in Cleveland in 9-12 District to finance Cleveland's emerging biotech industry. If there is truth to this, that could be great for the Avenue's development.

US Economy: News & Discussion
Joel Osteen is worth $40 million by selling the hope of redemption to people. I, on the whole, do believe Conservatives donate more - in part because many Conservatives (pre-populism) are of higher social standing. However, televangelists fall under our umbrella so we're not in a position to lecture anyone.

Obviously you didn't read the column thoroughly. It was based on the findings of a book and at least one study of charitable giving, not just an opinion formulated from whole cloth. You do understand that, don't you? Now now, Don. No patronizing language.

Millennials
I have a friend at Urban Community School, a Catholic school on Lorain. She said her students are either below the poverty line, or in a $100,000+ a year household. Very few in between. However, her first year was in 2013, in that year she only had one student in her class of 27 not on vouchers. This year she has 11.

Cleveland: Downtown: The Beacon
Totally agree. I would've loved for an extra 40-50ft of height but this will certainly make an impact.

My fiance and I will likely raise our children (at least until age 5-6) in Ohio City. Both of our families think we're insane for this.

US Economy: News & Discussion
They're not going to pay for themselves... Congress will get entitlement reform done by March, and that will be where the cost is picked up. Personally, I think any tax cut that isn't budget neutral at least is wrong. Especially from deficit hawks. But entitlement reform is going to be next.... followed by an infrastructure bill that will spend trillions so it won't matter. Additionally, you just provided my argument against raising the minimum wage.

Blockchains and Cryptocurriences
I would caution cryptocurrencies as a long-term investment, for the moment at least. There is certainly tremendous growth potential, but they're not yet FDIC insured.

US Economy: News & Discussion
To your point KJP[/member]... I believe that Cleveland families face poverty and malnutrition each and every day. This issue needs to be confronted, period. We don't have an inequality problem in Cleveland, because 35% of our population is equally poor. We have an upward mobility problem. You and I would certainly agree that we want these people to have steady income and better schools for their children, we just have fundamentally different ways to get there. And, as an aside, I am a Conservative that believes those things exist.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
A proper tribute for Massimo de Milano would've been for them to clean up the plates on a Saturday night instead of leaving a dirty dining room visible from the window well into Sunday.

Cleveland: Filling in Euclid Avenue
A) Yum Yum's is god-sent. Cannot recommend it enough. B) I had heard that all of the Chick-Fil-A pop up shops along Euclid this year were, in part, a case study to see where the best location would be to open a Chick-Fil-A downtown. Anyone heard anything beyond that?

Ram23[/member] You offer some pretty good thoughts there, for sure. I would go a little further. The increase in tuition cost is directly correlated with the # of administrators dramatically increasing on college campuses. Some states mandate colleges to have certain positions filled i.e. "student life advisors". I only graduated from a small liberal arts college 4.5 years ago, so I am still aware of the crippling costs associated with some private and public colleges. If colleges would cut the fat in administration, and subsidize the help in Admissions, Student Life, Dining, and the like with minimum wage jobs to be staffed by students, you would be offering de facto financial aid to students while cutting down on the operational cost of the respective college.

All parked within 500 feet of my building, which typically means they're residents of my building, as all surrounding homes have driveways. And about 10-15 minutes this morning while my car was warming up.

Cleveland: Downtown & Vicinity Residences Discussion
We live downtown and my little one goes to Campus Inyernational. We can afford a private school but never considered one. She loves the school. It’s like a mini UN. I also know that a few playgrounds for downtown are in the works If you don't mind me asking, where do the educational standards rank and how does the school ensure that for you?

Certainly a fair point, they want South Buffalo on steroids, which is currently only available via Ohio City and Tremont - hopefully D-S and maybe even Midtown will join in the coming years.
