  1. That is bonkers. That would be over 120% ROI in 4 years.
  2. I think you're right as well. Also, thank you for that link. I always enjoy reading the opinion of someone who fundamentally misunderstands how finance works. It would be like me blogging about astrophysics or the human pancreas.
  3. Per my source in Seattle, whom I saw over the Holiday weekend - About 1/3 of the cities that sent in their information to Amazon will be considered in the second round. This will likely include visits from Amazon staff. Cleveland is likely to make the cut to the second round. If this is true, and I am fairly confident in my cousin (my "source" lol), then this is big for Cleveland. I've often said, the hardest part about getting people to love Cleveland is simply getting them to see it.
  4. I would look to buy at Stonebridge. Currently close to a dozen units available there and most owners get an indoor parking space with their unit.
  5. ^Any updates on when that may happen?
  6. Also, the windows on Quarter look incredible. I really like what I am seeing thus far.
  7. I remember that as a kid, KJP[/member]. Leaving church at St. John Cantius, hopping on the highway and seeing what appeared to be an entirely different world.
  8. LOVE the self-promotion KJP[/member]!!! I dig it. Also, you have an excellent idea.
  9. Does anyone know the symbolism of the flag behind the bar at the Speakeasy on Lorain Ave?????
  10. With regards to Lakeview, I do not have personal insight. With Riverside, I do. Not renewing leases means they are emptying out the buildings, assuming they are also not signing new ones. This shouldn't be a surprise. With some environmental remediation, this could potentially be the best urban neighborhood between NYC and Chicago, sitting on the lake and river as it does. At a minimum, it inevitably reduces crime and the perception of same near an area where a lot of the actual Cleveland PTBs own property. The tower is senior citizen housing it's likely to stay. I think there are so many benefits to removing Lakeview. 1. ABOVE ALL - It would benefit the tenants. Many of those units provide inadequate living conditions. 2. It would reduce crime at Quarter and Stonebridge. 3. It truly could provide an entire new neighborhood to Cleveland in a prime location. I may be wrong - but everything I have heard indicates that Riverview will be the first to go. The point to "seniors" will actually be a selling point for giving up the building. "Look at the conditions our seniors live in..." is a very, very strong pitch for new housing. Additionally, those that I've talked to with SIGNIFICANTLY more knowledge of the situation than me believe that the Riverview parcel is the most sought after land in the state, and would fetch a massive number, should CMHA ask for it. I mean really, imagine $750k+ brownstones lining the street there, with a beautiful new park to the North, the Ohio City Garden and the city's best view of the skyline behind it, and the most active nightlife in the city only a block to the South. I obviously have no guarantees and could very well wrong, as I often am. But everything I've heard indicates that Riverview will go by 2020.
  11. My apologies, I was referring to Cleveland Housing Network.
  12. 501c3's that operate throughout the city, such as Cleveland Public Housing, can supplement and offset some of the relocation burden. But you're right, both of these properties house sizable populations. And I'd ask you... what do you do when recently replaced elevators stop working... would you maybe say "the situation at Riverview has become unworkable" and provide an itemized list of attempts you've made to "salvage" the building?
  13. With regards to Lakeview, I do not have personal insight. With Riverside, I do.
  14. Great idea, KJP[/member] The hoops I had to jump through to get my cousin a train ride from Philadelphia to Cleveland were crazy. In a three week time frame, only ONE did not run from Philadelphia to NY or DC before rerouting to CLE. Going CLE to PIT would directly connect us with Phila and thereby most of the east coast.
  15. Not well then, from what I understand. Much is beginning to fall apart already. Absolute fact. Lakeview Estates, as they stand, are the oldest public housing project in the country. Additionally, Riverview has had significant electrical issues which have effected the elevator systems. These issues going unremediated is essentially CMHA making a paper trail to substantiate their decision to condemn the buildings and sell one of the parcels in the near future. By 2020, one of those will have been sold.
  16. I call it Parmatown, lol. Also, congrats on your 69th post #nice

Hey All, Figured we could use a thread dedicated to consumer issues in NEO, so here we go. While I would love to be one of the people who can survive without a TV, I am realizing that I am not. As such, I will be getting Spectrum by Time Warner - it is the only option available in my building. Does anyone have any experience/advice you could give me in dealing with them? Should I install on my own, what issues in billing have you all incurred, etc. Thanks guys!

Cleveland literally watched Mandel sell his soul from establishment GOP candidate into becoming a whore for populist rhetoric. The man is a career politician elected with his family's money. He is the swamp.
  19. I was talking about that this weekend... I went and saw Hamilton in Chicago and MY LORD does their theater district pale in comparison to ours. Not only the locations, but also the decor, seating, facilities, efficiency. It really made me realize I was taking PHS for granted. And compared with some of the major errors of judgment we've had as a city, holding onto Playhouse Square is something to memorialize. You're spot on KJP[/member]
  20. ^Haven't you ever seen a play? The big reveal comes at the climax - never during the buildup. Potential names: - Wicked Tower - Breakaleg East - Thespian Villa - Stage Left - Drama Heights - Residences at Globe Theater
  21. A result of their unique financing? Yeah, they still have some par-for-the-course zoning hurdles to overcome... but the financing is - or at least very much appears to be - well settled and ready to roll. In sum, the money will not be an issue and this project will move as fast as city bureaucracy lets it. In this case, I actually like the City slowing it down a bit to ensure that the street-level space is used properly.
  22. I heard over the weekend that this project is AHEAD of schedule. What an unusual thing for our city; great to hear nonetheless.
  23. It's an aesthetically pleasing building. I'd love to see a condo-conversion.
  24. I'm a huge proponent of our brothers in Cincy getting a third professional team... However, I do think the timing is inconvenient. The MLS does particularly well in spurts around the World Cup. Without US involvement this year, I am interested to see how the country turns to MLS. You've all proven that you can be a viable fan-base, but the climate for soccer in the country seems to be at a (temporary) plateau. I would love to see the stadium go next to PBS in lieu of those warehouses and gravel lots where Bengals fans tailgate. However, I know that's not in the proposal right now, just saying. This Clevelander is pulling for a thriving MLS market in Cincy.
  25. ^The local rules are a nightmare to deal with at times as well as an attorney. However, this is probably not possible, as awesome as it may be. Parma, the second-largest city in the county, doesn't even have a city charter. This is due, in part, to the crony politics played in the city. The clerk of courts currently has four cousins or in-laws on council, his personal friend as mayor, his brother as rec director, and two of the three football coaches at the local high schools as his relatives. Getting Parma to join will be crucial, given its size and jurisdiction over other notable cities such as North Royalton, Parma Heights, and Brooklyn. I would imagine the situations are similar in Bedford, Berea, and Shaker Heights - which are some of the larger "municipal courts" in the county.
