I spoke with someone here in Cleveland over a week ago who had heard directly from Amazon that the Cleveland bid was more appealing than they anticipated. To me, this means one of two things: 1. Amazon expected us to send them a pierogi with handwritten blueprints of our proposal and were pleasantly surprised when a competent proposal arrived in Seattle, or 2. Cleveland really turned some heads with the mix of affordable housing, tech growth, business support, and access to land in the middle of a major metro. I pray it's the latter of the two.

7.9/10 - One bite, everybody knows the rules. Literally, stumbled upon the place by accident leaving my cousin's house yesterday. Had no idea it was their first day of operation - I need to be more aware of my surroundings.

I heard the same, which is great news. But just knowing what remains to be done, I honestly cannot see a groundbreaking any earlier than April. I feel like a 2017 groundbreaking would be a miracle.

Looking for help everyone... So, I am doing my best to stick to my $900 budget, which has proven difficult as of late. Here are my options as it stands. - Beautiful apartment on Franklin near 29th that would be $950 a month (sewer, gas, trash included) - No off-street parking - Great apartment on Clinton near 33rd which would be $900 a month (all utilities but electric included) - designated parking spot. - Single family home off of Randall on John Ct, which is actually an alleyway for $800 a month - two designated spots on a concrete pad next to the house. I have never lived in the city proper for an extended period of time so I am trying to weigh the pros/cons and hidden costs of living down here. Additionally, I'm trying to see if a parking spot is worth giving up a slightly better location for car safety / not getting plowed in in the winter. Any additional thoughts/comments would be greatly appreciated.

The Catch 22 being... as soon as Amazon announces the city... there will no longer be as much "affordable housing" lol. Hypothetically here, if Amazon were to move to Cleveland, I'd say a $175,000 home on Bridge and West 30th would become a $300,000 home almost overnight.

HEY UO FAMILY MEMBERS NEED SOME GUIDANCE... I just put a hold on an apartment at the Guernsey Building at 2836 Franklin. I'll have street parking which has been the only downside I can deduce so far. Can anyone give me some further insight into the location that I should/need to know about? I have 72 hours to cancel the hold. Thanks guys!!!

You can't have more apartments at that price point and expect both apartment complexes to thrive. The tower has to come in with condo's. There is plenty down there to draw people, they would sell fast and help the comps for downtown.

I believe the closest fighter wing is the 180th, connected to Toledo, OH... they have the F-16. It was always my belief that there were jets at Ravenna Arsenal as well. There are certainly helicopters and bombers.

Agreed, but I walk away from that quote with optimism. Originally, the target for groundbreaking was next May, so to say they're going to try to begin by year's end indicates to me that things are going smoothly.

I also saw a gang of miscreants on Razor scooters who looked determined to start trouble. Having said that, ATVs did a lap around FEB on Saturday and I thought that was complete BS.

Amazon goes from having 0 employees in Cleveland in 2016 to 3,000+ in 2018. That has to make them a top 20 employer in the county, right?

Coding and computer sciences as well as sustainable energy maintenance can be the new blue collar. I truly believe that.

^I'd heard rumblings of the Cultural Heritage Center.... along with a couple people asserting that it might go residential -- the latter of the two sounds too far-fetched for me to believe. Additionally, if Sherwin makes the improvements on their own, would that not increase the tax deduction they would receive if they donated the land to the Metroparks?

The gap in policy ideas are all from middle to the extreme left though. But, I do agree, it isnt as frozen as some people think.

^^^^This is a pointless argument... Dems can point to Boston, San Fran, LA, Seattle, NYC. GOP can point to Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Charlotte, Salt Lake City, Nashville If you believe one party's politics are the sole cause of the problem, you're the problem.

It has to start with Cleveland absorbing a few of the inner-ring though. I don't think Cuyahoga County would benefit from two cities with 150,000+. Imagine a Parma, Parma Heights, Seven Hills, Brooklyn consolidation - as they have already begun to share some dispatch services. That would be a city of approximately 135,000. If we could see Cleveland pick up some cities like EC or Brooklyn, that would put the population back over 400,000 and help with funding - though I do realize it is slightly more complicated than that.
