To be fair, I have had some of my best ideas whilst drunk.
  3. One of our nation's' best CCs..... in Boston.
  4. This discussion sheds light on why I love Ronald Berkman leading CSU. I know he has caught some criticism - most notably for his comfortable lifestyle - but he has done an incredible job with Cleveland State. If we were to look at the Campus District in 2010 versus what it is now it is not even comparable. The new nursing, NEOMed, Student Center, and now engineering buildings are incredible. Not to mention the fact that in 2008, there were about 900 CSU students living full time in the campus district. Next fall there will be over 5,000. From what I have heard, it is Berkman's vision to leave the school as an "actual" college campus. I know some years back there was talk of changing the school's name to Cleveland University, but I'm not certain that would make a huge difference with perception. All in all, I think we could have a very, very nice, expansive university by 2022. The major issue with housing is the lack of traditional "front porch" housing that so many schools rely upon, such as Ohio State and UC. The Langston has been a nice addition and the Edge looks to be a fun addition as well, but I wouldn't mind seeing a surface lot converted into college-appropriate row homes. The addition of lacrosse has been a terrific move as well, as the Vikings have only the 2nd D1 lax program in the state.
  5. I'm not certain it will be that fast, but they got their financing in order before they made their announcement. For that reason, I don't think it will face substantial delays.
  6. ^ wouldn't it be something if the Playhouse Square Tower broke ground before either Stark project. I really love how they got all of their ducks in a row before making the announcement.
  7. Yup, they have some not-so-prominent signage in the window at the instersection. It will be marketed as more of a cafe/market though
  8. The Constantino's Market Place going in at the Edge looks like it will be in a nice space.
  9. Would love to see this include condominiums. Ohio cities seem to be almost averse to the idea of equity in high rises.
  10. ^ Thanks. Given the size of that space, I wonder if they will be doing any brewing here or just shipping up from Cincy.
  11. ^it says caddy corner to Nano Brew. Wouldn't that be the current location of the Old Angle and ABC?

Shrinking stadium size is a national trend across all professional sports. Though, I love the idea of having an MLS stadium that sells out at 30k

Perhaps not the correct thread, but this is good news for the longevity of the safety of our water. https://clecityhall.com/2017/06/28/city-of-cleveland-receives-3-4-million-hud-grant/
  14. Hahaha. Touche, and probably called for considering how far off I was regarding the start date of Beacon. But this insight was significantly closer to the horse's mouth.
  15. I've went out socially with a guy that's worked on the financing for this job, and he has almost no faith that the project will get done in any semblance of what is currently represented.
  16. Throwing up a 5 or 6 story building on a prominent spot Downtown would be a big mistake and not one that could be corrected for a long time. There are only a handful of truly central vacant lots capable of a large scale transformative project and we should take advantage of them. A 5 or 6 story building would be great if going up on some random lot on the fringe of Downtown, but in this location that's not dense enough. I understand what you are saying, and I am no means dug into my position, but it just seems that cities are built bit-by-bit rather than by transformative projects, and that the transformative projects end up being the flops. I'd rather have all the vacant land covered with shorter buildings than one superstructure and a bunch of other parking lots - look at DC, or any European city. Really I just want to be able to walk down the street and have an unbroken string of city. Obviously that doesn't take account of the cost of the land etc. In an effort to not add to the derailment of the thread topic too much, this is short. To be fair, an act of Congress keeps the buildings in DC short. If Cleveland had similar code, you might see an unbroken string of city downtown instead of interspersed highrises. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Height_of_Buildings_Act_of_1910 If you want a direct comparison, just look at the density in Uptown/UC versus Downtown. One feels like DC, the other is much less dense.

Love this. Wish it included One University Circle, but I love the density of the buildings.
  18. I actually like the design as it stands. However, I do not think a design like that will age well with the city's skyline, and that is a problem.
  19. ^i don't know, but if it affects my ability to get pad Thai there will be hell to pay
  20. I think "some form" might mean a parking garage with street level retail.
  21. I often walk from my office to lunch in the winter, which usually means a .25-.5 mile walk down E.9th. I think Downtown is well handled in terms of salt on the pathways, but I think the city would greatly benefit from more capable sidewalk ploughs, either from DCA or the city itself. Wearing dress shoes down there in the winter can often make the sidewalks unnavigable if you do not want to ruin a pair. I am happy to the commitment to "outdoor" walking, however. Minneapolis is in its own right a great town, but I have been there 3-4 times in the winter months and it feels like a ghost town because of the skyway. I know I will get flack for this, [and in the long run I am probably wrong] but I wouldn't hate seeing the street parking completely removed from Euclid and extending the sidewalks another 4-5 feet. That would allow for space for snow pileups.
  22. Can you name another development that Stark Enterprises has failed to deliver? How is Weston/Citymark doing so far in delivering its own Warehouse District Superblock development? And, on what are your odds of success/failure of nuCLEus based? I'm with KJP[/member] here for the most part. However, spoke with a friend of mine on the legal side of the financing for the project and said he gives this thing a 5-10% chance of ever being anything beyond a multi-level parking garage.
  23. I know a few people that work there. It's doing pretty well. I like the place. I've been there for lunch 3-4x and it's usually crowded. Always crowded on game nights too
