From what I have read he sounds like he believes he was unjustly prosecuted. Yeah. Johnson has never submitted that he was justly convicted. Well, the footage was pretty grainy....that could have been someone else committing extortion on that video. Come on... an extortion conviction isn't something that should affect the public trust! It's not like the guy has multiple DUIs or anything...

  3. The "connector" vision to Ohio city and downtown is coming along!
  4. I have loved everything they have done/tried to do with this project. But I am NOT feeling that signage, at least as it appears in the rendering
  5. Hey all, I will be taking the bar exam in July and am currently looking for new study spots. The library gets a bit repetitive and home has become unproductive. Maybe a little coffee shop/restaurant where I could put in my earbuds, have a drink, and get to work. Looking for downtown, Tremont, Ohio City, GS, wherever. As long as the hours are good and the noise reasonable. Thank you!
  6. Cleveland today reminds me of Washington in the late 90's, when DC was emerging from the crime and corruption of the Marion Barry days. Lots was happening, but it wasn't falling-ton-of-bricks obvious. I'm not comparing any Cleveland politician to Marion Barry; my point is the city was so used to bad news that it ignored the good, even when there was lots of good. From three hundred miles away, I see lots of good in Cleveland today. Still, I can understand your impatience. Very happy to hear you say this, thank you. But, may I ask what in particular you are encouraged by beyond your general feelings?
  7. Brilliant description
  8. Any new pictures of the progress? I've been unable to get out there lately

Here is the full building. Built right on the heart of US Rt 42 - Pearl Road. There are also some beautiful turn-of-the-century formerly-country estates nearby.

There is an attached administration building, similar turn-of-the-century red brick. Beautiful, I just couldn't find a picture
  11. I think you are missing my point. I am not advocating electing officials from either party. I am merely suggesting that diversity of political thought and thereby philosophies for economic growth will only promote better, more battle tested ideas in the end.
  12. I don't think - at least the way I read it - that his comment was pejorative. I do think the city would benefit from an infusion of Republicans. I'm not disagreeing with your statistics, just saying that "iron sharpens iron"

Agreed, I often say it's a shame that people switch to Dem before running locally. Don't sleep on Madelone though. He isn't exactly a "leftist" and seems to have a lot of support from the 18-30 crowd.

If anyone has a chance, I suggest checking out the Presbyterian church on Pearl Road in Parma Heights. Straight out of a Rockwell postcard.

Isn't this forum too mainstream to host a hipster thread?
  17. I am happy to see Masthead surviving nearby, I just hope those few blocks have a very different feel a couple years from now.
  18. Meh, maybe. Normally companies will do that on their call when consumer outlook is low on the brand. A new HQ shows that the company believes its in good financial footing - which S-W very much is. I just am not certain that they will want to touch the HQ issue just yet.
  19. There is more than sufficient property nearby to satisfy that need... should it ever come... which currently does not seem likely. If these are a hit, this could result in a nice little "pop-up" neighborhood a stones throw from downtown. The only down side is that most of the zoning over there is light-industrial - autobody shops, supply warehouses and the like.
  20. I would love to see a rapid line diverted from 65th to D-S and then Edgewater. This, however, is probably far too substantial an undertaking to ever expect to be accomplished. I still believe that a Public Square, D-S, Ohio City light rail is very feasible.
  21. Westlake10 - welcome and good first post. I do think that overall Ohio City and D-S will benefit from more density. I know that is controversial especially to the "BUT WHERE WILL WE PARK" crowd; nonetheless, I think walkability of neighborhood centers promotes density and Ohio City has that and D-S is getting there.
  22. I have incomplete information, but what I do have is that Medical Mutual has decided which offices are getting consolidated, which ones aren't, and where offices will be located. Great! That's about all I think we can ask for
  23. The MM board acted two weeks ago on its office consolidation plan. There will be news coming soon. Hopefully as soon as this week. Will this news be determinative on the future of the HQ, or just an announcement of consolidation?
  24. Yeah, unless Ford can demonstrate a concrete need or plan for future use, this would be the textbook case for use of eminent domain. The only issue would be that the City would likely have to take title to the land first, meaning there would have to be a transfer to the plant. This means that there would likely be an issue of proceeds over the land which could turn into a LONG chain of litigation. Unfortunately, Ford has the upper-hand in this situation, at least on its face. However, I do believe Calfee represents (at least they have in the past) the city of Brook Park; there is no more capable municipal law department in the Midwest. Additionally, Brook Park has a very much authoritarian mayor - some hate him some love him; but it is situations like this where strong arming and "asking for forgiveness not permission" might turn out to benefit the city.
