  1. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN CONSTRUCTION BEGINS TOMORROW
  2. Keep an eye on Trulia. I was in a similar predicament last year. You often feel like you're "gonna miss out if we don't act now!", but more places always become available. In addition, GS/OC neighborhoods currently have 100s of homes under renovation that won't be done until summer.
  3. Agree, there should be a mandatory cost-benefit analysis with government held properties. Anyhow, glad to see the three preferred options all embrace Detroit in a good way. I have it on good authority that CMSD received a bid for the land that was RIH-DIH-CUE-LUSS
  4. Look though, at how terrible it is. An empty lot at least gives the hope for something decent. The current JC just kills any hope of a vibrant street. Okay, valid point and noted... But what does a JC next to Public Square mean for our now-vibrant city center???

  6. ^What is the name of the apartments currently going up next to Mariner's Watch?
  7. Another reason for closing West 29th from Detroit to Franklin and make it pedestrian only. I was at Mason's creamery the other day when I overheard / eavesdropped on the conversation next to me. It was a young man, who obviously grew up in the neighborhood, speaking to his friend. The young man mentioned the new proposed Project 29 and said "I would rather see the land vacant than more gentrification come to this neighborhood and price all of the residents out of the neighborhood." to which his friend replied "You realize you wouldn't be eating this ice cream right now if it were not for gentrification." Perhaps the best response I have ever heard in the perennial debate over gentrification. I understand not wanting the neighborhood to change and nightlife to come into a neighborhood... but this is on Detroit Road, let the neighborhood fabric be insulated behind, let the thoroughfare thrive and modernize.
  8. I'm also excited about the volume of people this will bring to the core. This will likely be the largest residential building in the immediate area (I'm not sure how many units 668, across the street, has but I suspect the Beacon will be substantially larger). With Beacon, Garfield and 668 in such close proximity -- along with nearby E. 4th street, this area is morphing into a substantial apartment district. And, as you note, Beacon's bulk and height, as well as its modern feel, brings added potential. Great point with the population. As for the aesthetic look, I often point to Pittsburgh. When compared to Cleveland, they do not have THAT many more 20+ story buildings than us. However, their geographic limitations of the rivers and surrounding hills have forced them to create their downtown in a way that gives it a beautiful aesthetic look in a relatively small area. I think the Beacon will "patch" the area in between PNC and 200 Public in a way that will do a lot for the eye.
  9. I am so excited for the volume this will bring to the aesthetics of the skyline.
  10. I used to buy beer at Fulton Beverage in high school. God bless "grunge" places
  11. I agree with most of you guys. I think MedMu would benefit most from a Weston-esque proposal. Perhaps a 30 and 20 story building with a courtyard in the middle and a skybridge connecting them. I also agree that the retail needs to be A) Noticeable from the street, and B) open to the public.
  12. Start with Steve Loomis. He has the rank-and-file dragging their feet on calls to increase pressure for more officers (and be a pain in the a$$ to the city under a consent decree). Loomis is a walking embodiment of why people distrust unions.
  13. I think a light rail down Detroit from 65th into Downtown would be incredible.. but busses already commandeered that route.
  14. Yeah, I could bike from Coastal Taco to Townhall in January in about 25 minutes - for the small toll of a lost limb to frost bite and permafrost on my lips. A light rail from the flats to OC would be difficult due to the terrain shift as well as the river.
  15. BINGO. People that come to Cleveland in the winter to see the Cavs, concerts, etc. would not have to restrict themselves to East 4th. The more people can see of our city, the better.
  16. Why? Other than aesthetics, what is the difference? I could argue that the gondola would be even more efficient since it would not have to affect traffic patterns? Paraphrasing Paine: A long habit of thinking of something as "wrong" gives your impression a superficial appearance of being "right". But the tumult soon subsides, time makes more converts than reason.
  17. Cincinnati would benefit greatly from these complexes being situated next to one another. I am too unfamiliar with the riverfront to know this, but is there room to complete this project anywhere near Great American and PBS?
  18. NHL: Now, introducing the Cleveland-Cincinnati PuckCommuters
  19. Who hurt you?
  20. I appreciate the effort, but I cannot make out a thing from that image
  21. But in all honesty... in 2007, if you had told me what Downtown - Warehouse/FEB/Playhouse Square especially - would look like today, I would have contacted your family and told them to get you in a twelve-step program. We are so so close to getting permanent sustainability to this if we just had more equity properties downtown. Then the additional necessary stores would follow... mini-Target, hardware stores, etc. Heinen's, Geiger's and Co. are GREAT... we just need a little further nudging.
  22. h There is a fairly low bar for first and second rounds game. Many of the arenas are "hockey-first" and the cities bid for these gains as a way to get some competitive basketball events in the city. Wolstein Center in Cleveland has hosted them, for crying out loud. I thin USBank will do just fine, as the sizeable crowds do not travel until the Sweet 16 and Elite games. These games are still a lot of fun, though. It will be fun and good for Cincinnati no doubt.
  23. When I find whoever is behind this, he or she and I are going to have some words. You're right, completely unacceptable. Before you know it people will be suggesting additional skyscrapers for company HQ's; this will not do.
  24. Most of the recent immigrants on Cleveland's West side are from East Africa: Somalia, Sudanese, and Ethiopian all have notable populations.
  25. Just in time for Cavs playoffs panoramas of downtown
