  1. Decided to unlock, since it had been 5 days.... and mainly to share this....
  2. Haha! I love going back and seeing my old hot takes... It's a good reminder that, even though we're some of the most well-informed Clevelanders, we all can be idiots sometimes lol
  3. Yeah - this list is automatically DQ'd
  4. Tbf I think that's the thought nationally about most cities, and Cleveland has been relatively under the radar in that regard. Having said that, 2023 is still ahead of trends from the 70s-90s
  5. I hate to say it and don't, at all, condone it... but don't be surprised if someone takes matters into their own hands and this whole thing escalates into something much bigger than petty criminals doing stupid things.
  6. Cleveland's suburbs are stagnant... if people are moving anywhere it's Cleveland's near west neighborhoods. But making a point to you is like arguing with my Uncle Wally, who invariably ends every discussion with an thinly veiled discussion about how "some people" are emboldened to commit crimes because police officers are more hesitant to use lethal force. I grew up in the suburbs. Currently work full time downtown and live in Ohio City. I can say without question that Ohio City was markedly more dangerous when I was in high school there from 2005-2009 - as was downtown.
  7. Dude no one is moving to the suburbs...
  8. Yeahhhhhh stop and frisk ain't it. I'm with you there. Pretty clear 4th Amendment violation. Not sure he realizes he's also making the liberals entire argument re: eliminating gun violence for them. I.e. "Not really concerned about the constitution so long as it makes us safer"
  9. Actually, an unintended consequence (and probably the only positive one) of the mortgage crisis is that supply outpaced demand in most states, which has really helped ease what would be an even worse housing shortage
  10. Same with Parma Heights, Seven Hills, and Parma, which would create a city of about 120,000. The issue is fearmongering from police and fire unions. When a dispatch center was merged in the cities in 2012 - the Parma Heights fire department responded by putting a referendum on the ballot to amend the city charter to mandate staffing levels of the Fire Department - which is f***ing insane. Fortunately, it failed. I'm from a family of police and firemen, but these unions are awful.
  11. I think it'll have to start in chunks - Linndale, Brooklyn, Euclid, East Cleveland, Warrensville, Newburgh Heights, and Garfield are all dominoes that could theoretically fall. Most have modest tax bases and shrinking populations, which is a revenue death wish. Aside from that, I also think it would make sense to see Parma/Parma Heights merge, and same with Cleveland Hts and UH, Berea/Middleburg, Garfield/Maple, Lyndhurst S. Euclid, etc.
  12. Regionalization is making more and more sense... but this stat FLOORED me re: how inefficient our current municipal arrangements are... Other than Cleveland, of the approximately 45 or so municipalities in Cuyahoga County, only FIVE have more than 40,000 residents. Only TWO have more than 50,000.

I'm one of the few people that actually love the stadium location - but being that close to the lake HAS to impact the survival period for the structure, right?
  14. Truly too scared to go grocery shopping in North Olmsted
  15. Random, for no reason at all question: How did you feel about people wearing masks and social distancing "being afraid to live their lives?"
  16. Same from my perspective. There was a leaning electric pole on Franklin for a couple weeks, I eventually called and it was fixed the following morning
  17. No comment
  18. I was on a bachelor party .5 miles away when this happened in Pittsburgh, FWIW. https://triblive.com/local/morning-roundup-man-charged-in-shooting-in-pittsburghs-strip-district/
  19. Tbf sometimes it's easier to just go to Crocker Park so I don't have to see minorities and pretend not to be frightened
  20. Hahahahaha this is phenomenal. I'm not a progressive, I come from a family of cops and firefighters, and even I'm like "Okay calm down, guy, it's okay to go outside."
  21. I took my bike from Ohio City to a diner in Slavic Village for breakfast on Saturday - as I do at least twice a month. Somehow I escaped the roaming throngs of lawless gangs and Mad Max riding with his turret in the back of an armored F-150. Pray for me.
  22. I know this is anecdotal - but just the amount of double parcel lots going up in my neighborhood is staggering. There hasn't been demand for that sort of density in Ohio City or any Near West neighborhoods since before 1960.
  23. I think there's real potential for a small, street-based retail development in that space. The density of Gordon Square and Battery Park alone could support it.
