  1. It's not great. I feel like we like a part of the time we either get bland/grey or something overly elaborate that ends up looking like it belongs more on Main St. in Disney than Ohio City. Having said that - density is a good thing.

Is this because they, too, want to take advantage of ballot harvesting?
  3. As a St. Ignatius football alum, I'll be heading to see Coach Kyle's last regular season game today. For some reason, they chose to have the game at Ignatius which, from my understanding, is the only varsity game played at the school in at least 50 years - maybe ever. However, they have about 10 sets of risers up around the track. It's one of those instances where, now that I'm older, I can reflect on exactly what having a coach like him meant to me. To this day, he's the reason why I think people who blame referees for a loss - any loss - have loser mindsets and are incapable of self reflection. He's the reason why I don't believe in setting moderate, almost certainly achievable, goals - as he used to say "your goals should be such that the journey to get there terrifies you." We won a state championship my senior year, and before the game he asked us "How many of you woke up nervous this morning?" and when we all nodded, he said "Good - it means you're here, and you know that you owe this moment to the 11 year old you, he dreamed of this night as he played in the front yard. It means you recognize how far you've come. It means that your goals were big enough." He pushed me to levels that I didn't know I had within me, and his belief in his players most basically as human beings, and then as athletes, made it so much easier to get to that place. I was fortunate enough to have two loving, generous, caring, and attentive parents - but if I didn't I could've supplemented a lot about what I now know about life from that 100yard patch of turf at 28th and Lorain. Most importantly, he was a teacher first, and I have a funny story to reflect that. I enrolled in Coach Kyle's "English Literature & Chaucer" course during Spring semester of my junior year. Going into the class, I thought it was going to be a breeze, because I had my coach for a teacher. I was a pretty good student, and asked early on in the semester if he'd be willing to recommend me for AP English for my senior year - he told me he'd think about it. About a week later, we got our first test back, which I was way too lax about, but thought I could coast through it. I receive a marked up test back, with a 77% at the top, good enough for a C- on Ignatius' grading scale. It was also accompanied by a note, which I remember word for word until this day: "And you want me to recommend you for AP English!? Ha!" From that point on I read every word and completed every assignment, finishing with a good grade. But it was an important lesson to me - if you care about someone's development, you should hold them to a higher standard, not a lower one. I hate to rehash old times on here. But I thought it appropriate to share some of this with my UO family.
  4. 9 stories* you forgot the Turkish bath on the 6th

An argument can be made that the Dolan/Ryan Venn diagram is closer to a circle than the Dolan/Vance.
  7. Saw this on Twitter and need to bring a blow up version of this to my next block club meeting:

IMO his personnel decisions have been phenomenal. The execution and failing to get the ball in Chubb's hands for another 5-8 touches a game, though, is his shortcoming.

The only thing I really can critique Stefanski for, offensively, is not getting the ball in Chubb's hands more. My buddy texted me after watching the film (he had to help with pro personnel this week to assist the Bears mid-season decisions), and told me he had to mark 7 MEPs (missed explosive plays) for Jacoby Brisett. An explosive play is defined as any gain over 25 yards. 2 of those would've resulted in Schwartz TDs, 1 would have resulted in a DPJ TD, the other four would have been long first downs to Hunt, Cooper, and Njoku. With the exception of my earlier point re: Chubb's touches, our offense is an excellent positions to win games, but as the saying goes, you can lead a horse to water... Having said that - there are situational awareness issues I think Stefanski needs to do a better job hammering into the team, I.E. DPJ's batted ball. Though, the Browns aren't badly penalized on the whole, and I can't fault the onside kick hustle. You could tell on the replay it was instinctual to reach in, and he quickly tried to adjust his body. As for Joe Woods, I have mixed feelings. I hate disruptions like that midseason, but it's been VERY bad. Our tackling is atrocious, and our zone assignments have been REALLY bad. We should most certainly be playing more man and blitzing - and that's for two reasons (only one of which is Woods' fault): 1. Our 1 and 3 techniques are BAD, which in turn makes our LBs bad. It's an impossible task to ask a linebacker to play the run when his interior linemen are being blown off the ball 3-4 yards. Dick Butkus couldn't have done that. Great 1 and 3 techs command double teams and occupy both, without losing their gap. Good 1 and 3 techs can occupy their gap and their man. Bad 1 and 3 techs can get beat with a single blocker, expose their chest, and get blown off the ball. If we show man blitz more often it at least forces their O-Line to account for an anticipated rush in their respective gaps, which opens us up for stunts, even if we don't blitz. 2. We straight up BLOW ASSIGNMENTS in zone. And that's on Woods (as well as the veteran players like JJIII) Grant Delpit makes some good plays, but he's not a cerebral player. That jet sweep touchdown was his man, he watched him come in jet motion across the field and still got sucked inside. If you see it from the endzone view, it's barf-worthy. But again, that's also on Woods.

He just needs to get his eyes downfield after the catch lol. Dude just ran into an immovable part of the equipment.

It's a shame the DNC remains clueless and isn't giving Ryan the support he needs to win.

This isn't entirely off the mark, absent it's impossibility. But I think 9-8 or 10-7 will get it done this year. I'll add my thoughts later. I legitimately had my scout friend send me game film yesterday lol, I was worked up to say the least.
  14. St Patrick’s Day or the Browns Super Bowl Parade. That’s pretty much it
  15. Funny story - I took my bike to work this morning and rode past the site, where I'm 95% sure I witnessed what is likely the first bowel movement at the new Sherwin Williams HQ. Guy literally had his pants down with his cheeks up against a gap in the fence. Some people have hidden talents, mine seems to be witnessing bodily reactions at inopportune times.
  16. Am I missing the punchline here? I feel excluded lol

A point I think I left off my summary - unfairly - is that Joe Woods DID make adjustments to Atlanta pounding the rock on us. He put 7-8 in the box, went with a bear front at times, and our guys still got their asses kicked. Sometimes you just get worked man on man. That was at least a part of the problem here.

He occupies 2 blockers and often 2 gaps on 70%+ of snaps. My point is, we can deal with hypos all we want. The stats before us represent an offense that's over performing at the moment. We're 2-2, and it's really tough to say that either of the losses are due to the offense and/or play calling more than the other phases of the game.

This team is a bad onside kick bounce and a car accident away from being 4-0.

Only one team has done that in the modern NFL: the Titans, and it's a MASSIVE reason why they haven't been able to get over the hump, despite some great talent. The Pats killed the Bills last year early in the season, only passing the ball 3x. Then when the Bills put 7 in the box in the playoffs, it was a massacre.

It's not what I tell myself... Brissett is a historically below average QB who now holds the 7th best QBR in the league. We're the highest graded offense through 4 weeks. We are 2nd in the league in rush attempts and yards. We're 21st in the league in pass attempts. We're 4th in the league in YPG and 6th in PPG. All with a bad QB and 4 starting OL. The work it entails to get those^ numbers in the NFL with Aaron Rodgers or Pat Mahomes is TOUGH, let alone Jacoby Brissett. You want to criticize singular play calls, go for it. There's certainly room for improvement. But it's PEAK Browns fan to act like the playcalling is the issue, when nearly every quantifiable metric suggests otherwise. Our defense in the 4th quarter is a sieve - and I think that also puts our offense in some crappy spots.

Ugh - I was avoiding it haha. Defense - Without a pass rush, I would've liked to see Joe Woods play more press man on the corners and send 5 with a QB spy on Mariotta. I think we played WAYYYY too much zone. But, to his defense, if you want to force Mariota to pass and not scramble, I get why he'd play zone to keep our defenses eyes upfield. - With that being said, our run defense was atrocious. With the exception of JOK, we don't have a defender who can consistently shed blocks B gap to B gap. We have to incorporate more run blitz packages into the mix (though maybe not this week against LAC). - The miscommunications in the secondary are unacceptable - and the buck stops with Woods. Having said that - I'm disappointed with John Johnson. He's the elder statesmen of the group, and he has to make sure our secondary has the same calls prior to the snap, which wasn't the case on at least 5 plays - fortunately only 2 of them resulted in big gains. Offense - I know we all have our gripes with Stefanski not taking points and throwing in short yardage, and it's deserved to an extent. However, when you have a philosophy and a game plan - you shouldn't waiver, especially when you have a mediocre QB playing at such an elevated level that he's 7th in the league in QBR and a dynamic back. On the 4th and short, Brissett had Chubb wide open for 6, but he locked onto the corner of the endzone. - We are very good at running the ball, especially in zone schemes. But let me address this: STOP SCREAMING "RUN THE BALL" IN EVERY SITUATION. It's the Browns fans gut reaction. A HUGE part of the reason we run the ball so effectively is because we're not one dimensional or predictable in traditional running situations. Learn to live with it. It's served us well. - Brissett CANNOT take that sack at the end of the game. We had Cade York in a weather controlled stadium, gotta give him a shot to tie it. 2-2 isn't good, especially given the fashion in which we lost. BUT, the Browns are first in the division, and if they can get to Week 7 at 3-3, we're in decent shape to have a shot at the division by the time Watson can play. Keep things in perspective.
  24. Since we all love speculation - here's a nugget I can't put together on my own. I work in Key Tower, and our garage has had numerous cars from Kentucky, more specifically, Owensboro, Kentucky for the past 6-8 weeks. There are about 6-10 cars there intermittently over the last few weeks. I can't figure out what it means, but know that these guys are staying at the Marriot, as I've crossed paths with them a few times (I should've just straight up asked back then lol)
  25. If you do, reach out.
