  1. Having said all that - it's a beautiful development
  2. I think this is a great cautionary tale for lakefront development and to make sure it's connected well to the rest of the city
  3. Fun fact - the first time my daughter asked to "use the potty" I was at Steelyard Starbucks with her... I was so excited that I barged into the restroom to find a homeless man asleep on the toilet
  4. Frankly, I know Starbucks is different than this but... It's a bit elitist to be completely closed off to chains. Family Dollar serves a ton of families in walking distance to it - so does the Planet Fitness on Lorain - so does the Dominos on Lorain. On the whole, I agree, OHC should preserve it's "localness" and there should be limits. But the volume with which chains are able to get supply typically makes their products more affordable - and that's not always a bad thing.
  5. If true, TeamNEO and JobsOhio need to be all over this... Raytheon, Boeing, BoozAllen, etc. etc. would all need some sort of presence here to remain competitive
  6. Has anyone read this? I might try to buy a copy but would love a rec, if possible. https://pressbooks.ulib.csuohio.edu/my-recollections-of-old-cleveland/
  7. They have excellent food. Just don't expect to be productive in the afternoon if you have it for lunch
  8. OMG could you imagine the NIMBYs in that approval meeting??? "I'M ALL FOR DENSITY BUT..."
  9. Not to be the naysayer here.... But I never want to hear "It can go up in a year"
  10. I'd argue it surpasses the density of downtown - and it feels that way to the umpteenth degree Sept - May when an additional 10k students are in the mix.
  11. Went to dinner with my wife in Little Italy last night and passed 4 tower cranes... That's a first for me in CLE.

Only thing that can be done is everyone starts referring to him in public as President Musk... Trump will get him out of sight in short order

Thank the Lord for Conservancy - hopefully their incredible skills and resourcefulness can help offset this spit in the face of Teddy Roosevelt
  14. I can see it now: First, they will commission a 24 month feasibility study. Then, they will convene a special committee to review the results of the study, which includes four mandatory, public meetings to take place every 90 days to discuss the findings. Then, there will be a 6 month open RFP phase for consulting firms to design the organizational structure of the new authority. The winning bid will then be subject to a 3 month comment period.

It's nice that at least Ohio has yet to go "crazy Red"
  16. I know I'm a moderator, but as a fellow Dewine-and-JobsOhio-are-just-a-recruiting-tool-for-Central-Ohio conspiracy theorist, I'll allow the overtures.
  17. LMFAO - yes, we're putting the cart WAYYYYY before the horse
  18. I also resisted getting into this on an earlier post... But I know someone on the commission... and they are one of the least competent colleagues I've ever worked with. As such, I've always been somewhat skeptical of its value as a governing body
  19. I'm not saying it should be eliminated. I think parts of it are useful and will remain so. I was responding to your comment above which seemed to suggest the only rationale for it's repeal would be to let cops beat up minorities.
  20. I'll say this - the Consent Decree is much more expansive than just brutality, and actually has limitations on the CPD's ability to investigate crime, contact victims, etc.
  21. I recently spoke with someone knowledgeable about OCI and neighborhood development... They raised a point I hadn't considered... A significant minority of neighborhood funding re: security and minor infrastructure come from grants from federally-funded organizations. I.e. the cameras OCI uses in collaboration with CPD to support neighborhood safety were from grants, several smaller projects were from grants with federal sourcing, as are some of the baseline OCI functions (neighborhood crews, etc.) Does anyone have any color on if this is a legit concern or an overreaction to the Pres. Musk's antics?
  22. Anecdotally, my wife and I have went to Alea 4x in the last 5-6 months, and each time we had to go somewhere else first because there was no room
  23. Just got back from a quick trip to Arizona and, at a friend's recommendation, visited the Cul de Sac pedestrian development in Tempe and HOLY COW. It's not done with construction yet, but it's incredible. Pedestrian only, 3-5 story apartment buildings, ground floor retail, built on little, open-air squares where local businesses can sustain themselves solely through residents. The entire time I was there, all I could think was "this is what the Scranton Peninsula is made for" https://earth.google.com/web/search/Culdesac+Tempe+Apartments+%26+Retail,+East+Apache+Boulevard,+Tempe,+AZ/@33.41376102,-111.89927973,362.93550105a,339.45365031d,35y,0h,0t,0r/data=CiwiJgokCZxaWlLhsURAEZS44k49r0RAGcUNOYz0ZVTAIRroDd-faVTAQgIIAToDCgEwQgIIAEoNCP___________wEQAA
