  1. I'm told we shouldn't expect it to stop there. These fellas are ambitious.

It's truly a neighborhood by neighborhood race. Bibb pretty much own Ohio City/Detroit Shoreway/Tremont, Dennis is doing well in West Park and Old Brooklyn, Kelley has a presence in all of the above... Basheer Jones is doing very well in Glennville, Collinwood, and Hough, and Zach Reed seems to have a strong presence from E40th to MLK from Kinsman to St. Clair.
  3. Lol - good point. If everyone doesn't mind my commandeering this thread once or twice a week, I'll give a score and a brief synopsis. For Gabe's: The atmosphere was exactly what you'd expect from a "Family Restaurant", and they have an Old Brooklyn flag flying from their drop ceiling, which was cool. I went early and got a meat lover's omelette with a side of pancakes - both were good, but the cheese was kind of thrown on top of the omelette and not melted all the way, which was my only major complaint. The pancakes were above average but not great, a little dry on the inside - but I was still happy to have them lol. Service was awesome and my food was out in less than 10 mins.
  4. Knocked off Gabe's at 2044 Broadview Rd in Old Brooklyn this morning. 7.3/10 - Very good breakfast!
  5. Is the Westin still in operation in the meantime?
  6. Maybe I'll start a diner review and score as I go (breakfast only): Mom's (Clark Ave) - 6.4/10
  7. Checked Mom's on Clark off the list this morning. It was great but it's other location in North Royalton is a little better imo
  8. I'll have to make two separate lists with two different radiuses lol
  9. Agreed - but honestly too high brow for this list! lol
  10. UO Fam - My wife and I will be doing a "Tour de Greasy Spoon" of Cleveland each Saturday morning. The goal is to find great little diner/breakfast spots. We'd like to stay within 20 minutes of our house (OhIo City) - and I would love your input. Here's what we have so far (Nick's Diner and Big Egg have been excluded due to proximity to our house): Gus's Diner - Old Brooklyn Steve's - Old Brooklyn Dianna's Deli - Lakewood My Friend's - 117th Kristina's - West Blvd. Mike & Dee's - Downtown Addy's Diner - Downtown Gabe's - Old Brooklyn Steve's Doghouse - Old Brooklyn Daybreak - Brooklyn Canary's - Puritas Rubin's - West Park Dmitri's - West Park Diana's - Clark/Fulton
  11. Haha! Similarly, it makes me think of Divis Flats in Belfast, the epicenter of the Troubles in the 1970s
  12. West Franklin Apartments added sod this morning and it's looking (surprisingly) good. I caught a local resident screaming at the construction crew this morning over how late they were working the previous nights - which was just a cherry on top.
  13. A house was just torn down on my street (50th) and they're already started to dig out a basement for a new build. This will be the 8th flip on my block in 12 months. (only 22 houses on my block)
  14. My point being - what can the county or municipalities do to encourage walkable city centers?
  15. This is Lititz - a small exurb about an hour or so outside of Philly (closer to Lancaster). I was smitten. https://www.google.com/maps/@40.1568758,-76.30506,3a,75y,306.25h,92.34t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s5qpUn8V3FINTx6gD3ljh9g!2e0!7i16384!8i8192
  16. I'm not sure if this is the right thread... but I spent my weekend in and around Philadelphia and its adjacent suburbs. Almost all of them had walkable downtowns, and some of which were new(ish).. This made me think... do any suburbs currently have plans to encourage a centralized, pedestrian friendly CBD? I know we have Lakewood, Willoughby, Chagrin, and Rocky River all with walkable downtown's (and arguably Berea) - but I cannot think of a single initiative underway to fix some OBVIOUS problems with the lack of pedestrian-friendly CBDs in Greater Cleveland. I did a lot of digging on the plane ride, and couldn't find anything of note. The closest thing I saw was a tax incentive in Parma Heights on Pearl Rd to put parking behind buildings.
  17. I've been thinking about this since I posted it. Does anyone know of a mall being converted into like a neo-urban / European open space... (I apologize, I have a very limited architectural and planning vocab) What I'm envisioning is retail on the lower levels, trees, plants, benches in the middle --- and walkways with a bike path (it could be climate controlled but open up ends to each other in the summer and good weather. Each shop / restaurant would have custom frontage, but abide by an overall aesthetic. On the above levels would be apartments, condominiums, but blended in a way that incorporates it into the feel of the shops below. I'm 1/100th as creative as most of you... but my overall point is... why not try to integrate the mall in with the city outside of the doors. Encourage bikers - build infrastructure that allows bikes/scooters and pedestrians to coexist.
  18. I can't tell you how often my wife and I would utilize a train ride to CVNP - we drive there 3-4x a month and live in Ohio City
  19. Unpopular take (don't hate me): I like the idea of it becoming a mall again - provided the right tenants and layout are chosen
  20. Hi Folks - My wife's 30th birthday is coming up (end of Sept), and I'm planning a surprise party for her. There will be about 40 people in attendance, and I'd like to rent out a little space somewhere. We live in Ohio City near Gordon Square - and I already looked at a co-working space, but renting the space would be $850 for the evening and I thought that was a bit aggressive since I'd have to bring in all my own food and liquor lol. Do you know of anywhere that has a decent space to rent that isn't exorbitant - preferably within Ohio City, DeSho, Tremont, or Downtown? I don't mind spending more since it's her 30th, but I'd like to keep it within reason. Thanks!
  21. Nevermind - Found one!!!
  22. Does anyone have a picture of the Holy Name / Cathedral Latin Charity Game? I've seen pics of it before but I can't find it. My uncle and grandpa were there - and Municipal Stadium was just about sold out. Admissions weren't logged, but it was probably the largest crowd to ever watch a HS football game
  23. I love that Cleveland had a "BIG 4" in football schools back then, as cited by the paper. I assume that was Case, BW, JCU, and WR?
