  1. Random question - My wife is out of town this weekend, so I'd like to golf a couple times. However, I don't want to abscond my duties as dog dad either. Do any of you know of any dog-friendly courses within Greater Cleveland? I have a German Shepherd who's well behaved (and I have an electric collar too) - I golfed with him once last year in Michigan and it was a really fun time. Trying to see if that option is available around here.
  2. This reminds me of my favorite D3 football pic of all time.

Probably not the right forum for it - but you're right overall. I just tend to think Dems tend to forget what will rally people. They could do it with hope - i.e. increased access to jobs, healthcare, etc. and sometimes they do. But they always trip over "birthing parent" issues. The right does it well - but they choose to deal in fear and hate - and that's a whole different type of bad. Anyways. Bibb for Mayor.
  4. ^ Agreed they look great! I hate to be a Debbie Downer but I really have to think they screwed the pooch by not getting these on pace to open this summer. Otherwise, it looks awesome.

    Bingo

I think there's certainly a nuanced way to go about it between Kucinich's path and the path of other Dem candidates. To be frank, I think a lot of times when the murder rate is pointed out, it's automatically called a dog whistle. The fact of the matter is... in addition to systemic failures that adversely affect black communities, the homicide rate adds kerosene to that housefire. It's an uncomfortable topic, but support for disenfranchised communities and violent crime definitely have a correlative relationship. We can't truly address one without the other. I've obviously made my support for Bibb obvious, but I think one area where I wish he'd improve is a plan to make neighborhoods safer. I love his social worker-with-police idea, and I know he'd obviously endorse job growth in those areas - which naturally decreases crime. Nonetheless, I haven't seen a single candidate directly address the issue of violent crime in a nuanced way - candidates either tip toe around it, or are point-blank racist about it.
  7. Honestly I can't believe I'm the only one to say this so far... But wouldn't this be a great opportunity to make a street pedestrian only? At least for that stretch

Fortunately - there aren't enough old, white "HE CALLS IT LIKE HE SEES IT" voters in Cleveland to carry an election. It might win him the hearts of some folks in North Ridgeville and Mentor that say they're from Cleveland, though

Josh Mandel knows he's wrong and knows he'll get ratioed into the ground on Twitter. That's the entire point. It doesn't matter what he says as long as it will "trigger libs". God, if you told me in 2016 that I'd be praying for Tim Ryan to be our next senator I would've gut laughed in your face.
  10. I do wish we had a better understanding of how Native Americans lived in and around Cuyahoga County. From my understanding, Moses Cleaveland was referred to the Cuyahoga by an NA tracker.
  11. Based on the comments above, I wonder if they're lifting the shell of a pool up?
  12. Currently a crane in front of the Beacon and the Beacon's social media page is saying "stay tuned for a huge announcement"
  13. 1. I love this, and was telling my mom about it this morning at Einstein Bagels in Middleburg Heights; 2. A gentleman in his 50s interrupted and said "now I'm definitely never coming down to Ohio City, and if I do, I'm going to hang a 10 foot 2x4 out of my truck window"
  14. Fun Yabo fact: I got my wife to Rocky River Reservation by promising there'd be otters three years ago - though I knew there wouldn't be. Then I proposed. Hope this isn't an omen.
  15. I think that would've been a good place for 4-5 interactive kiosks, with maps, info, and historical context. I think that would've provided some ad space, while still bring real value to visitors without absolutely bombing the aesthetic

He's also the status quo candidates for the Sweeney-driven Dem machine in the city. That's much more focused on patronage and power than action

Again - I know I'm biased... but Bibb's resume (at least on paper) is impeccable and head and shoulders above everyone else. CWRU, London School of Economics, Aide to Obama's Senate staff, KeyBanc Capital Markets, CSO of Urbanova.

I watched him have 3-4 drinks at Clifton Wine Bar and then drive away last summer too. So he hasn't learned

Can I ask why you'd put Bibb so far down the list? I know I'm biased here, but he seems like the only candidate on the west side with any visible support at this point - and that's the area of the city that turns out best for a primary

That's my pup. The first (and likely only) yard sign we'll ever put in front of our house.
  23. I think an unintended consequence is that it will be a new place for WSM patrons to take their food / snacks, etc after a trip to the market. Which would be REALLY cool and a great way to incorporate the project right into the street.
  24. I'm sorry to go on a rant but this is such BS. Elyria has a unique opportunity to rebrand itself as a walkable suburb with a central business district - similar to Willoughby, Chagrin Falls, etc. and instead of preserving the bones, they just tear the whole thing down
  25. With how busy Edgewater has been already this summer - I think there's evidence that the demand is there for a second city beach in or around Downtown.
