Whatcha Reading?

It's about the race to develop Crispr / Cass-9 gene editing technology (which eventually led to our Covid [ and now HIV] vaccines). The story itself is compelling - and if anyone tells you these vaccines were rushed, this research began in 2011.

Going to be difficult to make that argument when Church and State is literally visible from street level

To my inbox this morning ... Outstanding!!! We’re finally seeing development with enough inertia to break through these walls

Any idea on when everything will open? I've heard Wolstein's kid (who from my understanding has no prior restaurant experience) has a pretty cool idea for a wine bar / casual lounge sort of thing, and that it will occupy one of these spaces. I haven't been able to confirm this though.

Personal Finance / Investing Thread
Hey everyone - I have some extra money I'm looking to invest and was thinking about investing in FundThatFlip, considering it's a local company and seems to be a sound business / strategy. Does anyone have any experience or insight, or perhaps even advice as to if it's worth it and what to potentially look out for? Thanks!

I kid you not... I just walked past Club Azteca with my dog and watched a skunk climb out of its vent... and proceed to charge at my dog and I. we escaped the spray lol- Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway / Gordon Square Arts District: Development News
FWIW (and this is just a rumor I heard) - the closing isn't indicative (yet) of a long term plan to close. Their market is actually quite lucrative and sits to the west of the restaurant - so logically, I'd assume they'd need to get paidddddddd to close up shop entirely, and that would require additional capital that I don't see the developers voluntarily paying in lieu of fighting off some protestors- Cleveland: Historic Photos

Again - point being - this isn't a suburb. That location is less than a half mile from 5 different bus lines and a rapid station. Not to mention access to bike lanes with a direct link to downtown and other options for multi-modal transportation. It's just wild to me that we keep referring to "architectural integrity" and the "aesthetic of the neighborhood", yet when pressed, the NIMBYs just end up shouting "EMARGHERED PARKING." I live less than a half mile from 4 apartment / condo projects under construction - some of which are more aesthetically pleasing than others. None of them are a net negative to the community though, as greater density means more safety and a greater sense of community. I have neighbors that are lawyers, I have neighbors on Section 8. I have neighbors in 3,500 Sq ft Victorians, and I have neighbors in 600 sq ft apartments - it's what we love about the neighborhood. I understand we don't want "Nashville-chic" BS going up everywhere. But come tf on, let's stop acting like this isn't about a couple dozen residents being angry about having to walk an extra 200 feet to their car.- Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway / Gordon Square Arts District: Development News
Currently stalled due to the "hIsToRiCaL sIgNiFiCaNcE" of the location, which somehow sat untouched, uncared for, and unpaid for for most of this millenium... From my understanding, the developers want to build there still, just not sure if the juice is worth the squeeze if they're asked to downsize the project- Cleveland: Suburban Crime & Safety Discussion
I saw a video of a girl ducking and the cinder block behind her essentially exploding- Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
I listened to a Kenny Chesney interview where he discussed writing "Anything But Mine" about his summers in HHI and OBX and encountering girls from Greater Cleveland there for the summer. When the song first came out, people assumed it was a reference to Cleveland, Tennessee - not far from where Chesney grew up.- Whatcha Reading?
This has been great - and has taught me so much about our genetics. It's particularly an interesting read in light of the mRNA vaccines we're all receiving. https://www.amazon.com/Code-Breaker-Jennifer-Doudna-Editing/dp/1982115858- Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News

Harbor44 is the ultimate face palm for NIMBYs too. That started as a really cool project and was made bland by NIMBYs who just like to shout their opinions- Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
I was actually fortunate enough to see renderings "from the stage" looking Downtown... and it's an incredibly great pano angle of the skyline- Cleveland: Ohio City: INTRO (Market Square / Harbor Bay Development)

I'm very happy that a couple NIMBYs can veto millions is neighborhood investment- 2022 U.S. Senate Race
I was referring solely to GOP. My bad. Funny thing is, rural Ohio would never support a centrist Dem, but would get behind Sherrod. *Shrugs*- 2022 U.S. Senate Race
It seems like common sense that the 3 C's would dictate our statewide politicians..... but that's not always the case. Having said that, our statewide officeholders (with the occasional exception of Yost) tend to be pretty center-right.- 2022 U.S. Senate Race
And can chip off votes in Southeast Ohio which is a tough ask for any Dem candidate- 2022 U.S. Senate Race
Agreed. Imo opinion only one Democrat in the state can win this seat, and it's Tim Ryan - Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway / Gordon Square Arts District: Development News
