English Premier League
So happy to see Villa back up where they belong - happy Spurs dispatched of them though ? The EPL is better when the traditional clubs like Villa, Newcastle, Birmingham City, Fulham, Nottingham Forest, and Leeds are up and competitive.

Agreed with both. That's what drives me crazy about him - he is a gifted writer and gets some incredible intel for his stories. However, his arguments get lost in clearly personal feuds he maintains with some of the people he writes about. I think if he approached writing in a more objective way, he could still body slam folks from time to time, but would do so in a way that was less clouded by vitriol and thereby be of greater service to Scene's readers. He's a good enough writer to do it.

The Official *I Love Cleveland* Thread
The Toronto Sun posted this glowing review of Cleveland yesterday https://torontosun.com/travel/usa/cleveland-rocks-and-not-just-for-the-music I anticipate a full rebuttal from Cleveland Scene by day's end.

Maybe instead of doing anything to the bikers, we just give all residents in their path free karate lessons? HI-YAAA

Yeah but Ken, while I'm with you on 99% of this - this sort of punitive system of justice would send our impoverished, most notably minorities into a feudal death spiral, wherein any moral transgression could see a seizure of assets. I agree with you - these guys should face charges for what they did, I just want to temper the part re: seizure of property unrelated to the crime.

Or... or... call me crazy... People could take dirt bikes to tracks in the country and exurbs. If these dudes were skeet shooting in the neighborhood, I don't think we'd all be like "Maybe we should accommodate them and get some more clay pigeons", no, we'd punish the firearms infraction and tell them to take that activity elsewhere.- Cleveland: Downtown: John Hartness Brown Buildings / Euclid Grand
So that project wasn't thought highly of by the people I spoke to, but perhaps that's best for a different forum- Cleveland SC Soccer Stadium
Plus the hipster "I like soccer and call it football because that's totally not mainstream give me a scarf to hold" soccer fan is going to want something like Cleveland FC, Sporting Cleveland, Cleveland Athletic, Cleveland City, etc. etc.- Cleveland: Downtown: John Hartness Brown Buildings / Euclid Grand
I think Brooks Brothers would benefit from relocating to Euclid too, FWIW.- Cleveland: Downtown: John Hartness Brown Buildings / Euclid Grand
Not to disagree with you @KJP because I know Gilbert owns significant portions of Fatheads and Shinola - which is why I didn't include them, but I had no knowledge of any affiliation with Nike, Lulu, or Warby Parker- Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion

I had to make a quick trip to Detroit last week and wow, have they done a LOT to their downtown since the last time I was there 18 months ago. I often get laughed at when I suggest retailers like Nike, Lululemon, Under Armour, Columbia, etc. open up shop on Euclid at the JHB - but the same was just done in Detroit, on a strip that was MUCH worse off than Euclid Ave, and at a time when the residential population immediately adjacent is still rebounding. I mean look at this. There is absolutely no reason this shouldn't be the type of retailers we're shooting for on Euclid Ave, 9th-14th Street could really be a special stretch with high quality retailers heading into our most vibrant arts district- Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
While I'm almost always against civil asset forfeiture - something has to be done. A college teammate of mine lives in that neighborhood and told me his daughter was in their front yard when it happened. I think the county needs to find out who was on the sidewalk and hit them with a bevvy of traffic and criminal citations: - Reckless endangerment - Illegal operation of vehicle on roadway - Criminal trespass (x the number of houses traversed) - Attempted batter (x number of persons forced off of sidewalk)- Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
Only counterpoint I'd have to this is that these are in Columbus, for some Depts, because of the geographic accessibility to residents.- Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
I'm surprised to hear that^^ My wife and I frequently walk there for coffee and most traffic appears to be on foot...- Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
Haha one of Sam Allard's all time vitriolic articles. I remember reading that just being like "I mean neighborhoods are quite literally a man made construct, Sam, calm down dude."- Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
I actually think this is a great idea from the Trump Administration- Cleveland: Historic Photos
At its peak, Irishtown Bend saw as many as 15,000 inhabitants along the hillside on the less 3/4 mile strip. When my family (paternal great grandparents) first arrived in Cleveland, this is where they lived and worked. The Irish were forced up the hill to "the Angle" at the end of the 19th into the early 20th century - this migration was due (a) to the disease that spread as a result of such tight living quarters, and (b) significant violence from the "Know-Nothing" movement that saw a spur of anti-immigrant rhetoric and violence. In fact, several Irish were killed en route to polling stations in the 1880s, including several Civil War veterans. From the Angle, the Irish once again faced a wave of anti-Immigrant backlash before WW1 - an early family friend of my great grandparents had their home burnt down for taking jobs during a labor strike, and many moved to several concentrated blocks (W. 59 - W. 65th between Herman and Detroit) and smatterings along 65th from Detroit to Lorain as it stretched down to their parish at St. Colmans.- Cleveland: Downtown & Vicinity Residences Discussion

As someone who has frequented both the jail and the JC - reform is not possible at the jail's current location, with its current set-up. When I practiced criminal law, I had several clients who couldn't sleep for more than 20-40 minutes at a time because their body hadn't seen sunlight fade to darkness and vice versa in their time there - thus throwing off their internal clocks. I've seen narrow hallways out of sight of cameras where transfers and violence usually happen. The chairs, the glass, the plumbing, the ventilation - it's all broken or failing. If reform is going to happen, the county needs to acknowledge the structure is insufficient. Or they can simply say that the purpose of the jail is purely punitive and not rehabilitative and move on.- Cleveland: Ohio City: Church+State (West 29th & Detroit Ave)
In my humble opinion, I don't think a crane will be necessary at Dexter and - while Market Plaza certainly will need AT LEAST one, I bet we won't be seeing that until late next Spring/early Summer at the earliest. - Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
