  1. Okay - this will be wildly unpopular as I know my liberal friends here love Canada... so let me preface... Downtown Toronto is GREAT! Absolutely love it. However, other parts of Toronto into Mississauga, etc. are absolutely abhorrent. There are some WONDERFUL residential skyscrapers that sit next to strip malls with almost no interaction with the street below. I spent the day in Toronto before leaving for Italy and Mississauga might be my least favorite city on earth (and I've been to Mobile, AL). I do not know if there are no zoning laws, or if they were poorly written, but the randomness of it all leaves Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, at all devoid of any real sense of community, at least in the commercial parts where skyscrapers are as random as zits on a teenager. https://www.google.com/maps/@43.5969622,-79.6392344,3a,75y,149.72h,98.27t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sVPqn4wwAYQOTO9J3DJKYWA!2e0!7i16384!8i8192 https://www.google.com/maps/@43.6060781,-79.6521551,3a,75y,175.73h,96.06t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sU-5CEAKXg9dim7Ni89vLeA!2e0!7i16384!8i8192 https://www.google.com/maps/@43.5909789,-79.6312955,3a,75y,170.61h,98.05t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sCrGwbU1OkT4vC-nc0fpHRw!2e0!7i16384!8i8192
  2. I rode the train in Italy with a man who rode the train daily, for $4 a day. His commute was from Arezzo to Florence (about an hour) each way in order to work in a factory making springs for mattresses.
  3. Not entirely spot on but close... They budgeted for spending two years in the red... and they are profitable right now. However, the purely "grocery" section of the store is not, as of yet. Rather, the prepared foods sections essentially subsidize the rest of Heinen's for the time being, though the grocery has done incrementally better every quarter.

So this isn’t exactly legal... but my wife and I camp in CVNP about once or twice a summer. There’s some really great spots off-trail if you hike about 2-3 miles from the Ledges trailhead
  5. I go to Italy for 8 days... Come home to see a crane on Franklin and Church and State above the ground... wowzer.
  6. It is though - it absolutely is.
  7. I certainly trust your source more than mine - as mine is my neighbor. But, it's curious nonetheless how I heard the exact opposite.
  8. From my understanding (and I may be mistaken so please correct me if so), the funding will not be an issue - rather design approvals, etc. will be an issue due to the unstable nature of the topography and the fact that its an active archaeological site as well.
  9. Lol yeah I followed up with a simple "hope the food doesn't reflect the attitude" - I typically go to restaurants to get hazed like a freshman in a frat.
  10. Food was decent, service was awful. My wife and I walked in and asked for a table of five, and the host said they can’t seat us until everyone gets there, despite the place being empty. my wife says “can’t we just sit down? There’s a lot of open tables.” and the host responds: “I don’t come to your work and complain about your policies.” I wanted to walk out but my wife’s family picked the place
  11. Currently unable to be seated at boiler 65
  12. Yeah, imo opinion everything in East of W. 9th and West of E. 22nd is fair game for a high rise - and by fair game, I mean they should be encouraged. I understand your concern, but I just think it's not correctly applied. The size of the building, imo, is irrelevant - rather, it's all about how that building blends with the street and neighborhood at the street level. For instance, if a highrise were to be put at the intersection of W. 9th and St. Claire, in the surface lot to the SE, I would want the portion of the building at street level to have some sort of red brick element, that would ingratiate the surrounding buildings/vibe - the height wouldn't really matter imo.
  13. If @Terdolph gets his way....
  14. We’re in Ohio City’s most western frontier!
  15. I obviously wouldn't trade the terminal tower for anything.... but those are beautiful
  16. Here's a fun anecdote I know @KJP will appreciate... We had a get together at my house on Saturday. All in attendance were age 25- 31 and live in our neighborhood. In total, 18 people came by, they were from: - Greater Cleveland --> 6 - Buffalo / WNY --> 3 - Greater Detroit --> 2 - Greater Chicago --> 2 - Memphis --> 1 - Hartford --> 1 - Orange County --> 1 - Cincinnati --> 1 - Pittsburgh --> 1
  17. I had to laugh... this project came up at my family's Memorial Day BBQ last night and my great uncle says "Well they better add parking because there is nowhere to park downtown." Generational gap, I guess.
  18. I am with you guys as well... here's where I get frustrated with my conservatives. Liberals are pushing an agenda for climate change that imo will have substantial economic impact in the negative. Instead of coming up with our own, more pro-growth, plan to combat climate change, we say it doesn't exist and ignore it.
  19. I'm hopeful for a large tower.... but realistically.... Proctor and Gamble has two 350'(ish) towers in Cincinnati and P&G employs more people than Sherwin Williams at its HQ, at least so far as I know. I think 900' might be too large for SHW, no?
  20. I'm not sure if its been discussed on here yet, but SHW employees got an internal email telling them not to talk to the media.
  21. I don’t think David wants to run for mayor. plus Cleveland Scene would declare a fatwa
  22. I would love that. The only space that should remain open in perpetuity is that little green space to the East of the Bop Stop
  23. I feel like my Big Egg news went unnoticed - but reflects how insane it was to not sell that property
  24. You're absolutely right. A seven story building would have made a drastic impact on the feel of the street. I'm happy we're getting a 20+'er though!!!
