  1. CANNOT WAIT FOR NIMBY "MY COMMUNITY IS NOT YOUR COMMODITY" reactions
  2. The Big Egg reduced its hours. Only open to 3pm now. Wonder if he regrets not taking the $ now?

But Spurs knocked them out of the UCL #COYS
  4. Hey all, having a bbq tonight for my family. The fact that I live a mile from the lake means a lot of weird flies/bugs near my door. Any advice on sprays/tactics to keep them away from my house while the door is open for a big portion of this afternoon? thanks guys/gals
  5. I agree. But he always needs to prove to everyone that he’s some sort of unique rebel, and it comes off whiny
  6. "YEAH BUT WHERE CAN I PARK!?!?"

I've heard similar - the cause of which was John D. Rockefeller's father being essentially a snake oil salesman in Greater Cleveland, with his base of operations in Strongsville. It's said that any time there was an outbreak of something in the area, Rockefeller's father would make thousands exploiting families by selling "miracle cures" which was really nothing more than lavender and water.
  8. I know this is a big surprise... but Cleveland Scene is outraged
  9. My grandpa grew up in this neighborhood... whenever he references it to me, he says, "but that's when Broadview and Pearl was a metropolis!"
  10. They literally adjoin my backyard. I’m in full support.
  11. @RMB makes a good point. The building is aesthetically adequate imo. Is it what I'd love to see in that spot? No. But it's fine and it will contribute to the continued growth of a mixed income neighborhood, so I'm for it. Beyond that... This is really going to fill in Detroit. When I drive home westbound on the shoreway, and look out over Detroit 25th and into Ohio City, the depth and volume looks more like Brooklyn than a city in Ohio.
  12. It can be rebuilt with wood with "fire stops" that will contain any subsequent fires. I just don't know though - it's almost inconceivable. This building was SO OLD that it was built at a time when Europe it had 72 million inhabitants, today it has 750 million. As noted above, France just doesn't have forests like that anymore.
  13. Just walked by and Cap'n Tony's on 9th is closed. It was open on Friday
  14. St. Malachi - 1943
  15. Obviously not inviting a discussion about religion - but even in the midst of such tragedy, it's amazing how it only serves to deepen our appreciation of what remains.
  16. Not to be crass, but that might be employees doing a “CYA”, ya know. I’m sure they all feel awful
  17. And now to your point - French fire chief just came out and said he isn't sure that they will be able to save any of it in a manner that will allow the bricks to be built on again
  18. It's not, that's what is risking the stained glass/artifacts/etc. But, from what I've read, even if the fire were to blaze another 24 hours, the walls and buttresses could still be fine, save serious stain from smoke damage inside.
  19. Point of clarification: MOST of the church will remain insofar as its structure, i.e. 13th century bricks and even much of the stained glass
  20. Slight difference, however, was that even Hitler thought Notre Dame was too beautiful to bomb. Moreover, it is nearly 800 years old. Any rumors as to the cause yet?
  21. Notre Dame's spokesperson just said that nothing will remain of the frame. It's all been burnt
  22. I've never been to Notre Dame Cathedral - but I am absolutely GUTTED watching the footage
  23. I've been to Hooples 20+ times. I've driven to Hooples 0 times.
  24. I used to go to East End all the time... including times when I was one of only a handful of white people in the bar... so no... What I take issue with is the fact myself - and people I know - have three times been harassed outside that bar on three separate occasions. I actually posted about one instance on here shortly after it happened. Moreover, last time I was in there, a fight broke out when a man began peeing on the bar... if that makes me classist than so be it.
  25. So I'm always on board with expansion and think this is a wonderful idea. Nonetheless - the clientele at East End is an issue. It just is. That place will be the bane of an otherwise beautiful boardwark that would connect a thriving entertainment district to a public space.
