California - Malibu - The Getty Villa
^Yeah, the view on a clear day from the Getty Center is pretty fantastic. There is also a bigger variety of art. I've never tried the food at the Getty Center... I had a chicken sandwich with garlic fries at the Villa which was pretty good though!

California - Malibu - The Getty Villa
Oh yeah? I've been to the Getty Center also and felt it was fantastic. However, I think I liked the Villa a little more because it's less massive. I felt it was a more intimate museum going experience. I'm curious to hear why you prefer the Getty Center.

California - Malibu - The Getty Villa
To finish off the Memorial Day weekend we headed to the Getty Villa which is right off the PCH in Malibu. If you're ever in LA, this is worth checking out! The museum is free, but it costs $8 a car to park. You have to plan ahead and order the free tickets on-line. They do this so the museum doesn't get too crowded. All the works in the museum are from the Getty Collection and feature the Etruscan, Greek, and Roman eras. Without further ado... Back to work tommorow :(

California - Santa Barbara County - Wine Country
They are about 15 to 20 miles from Santa Barbara, and about 10 to 15 miles from the ocean. The drive to the wine area is nice because you can either take the 154 which winds through the mountains our the 101 which skirts along the coast.

California - Santa Barbara County - Wine Country
For the first day of Memorial Day weekend we went to do some wine tasting up in beautiful Santa Barbara County. It's about 1 1/2 hours North of Los Angeles by car via the PCH or US 101. The grapes are grown in what is know as the Santa Ynez Valley, which provides excellent conditions due to the mountains running East to West and carrying the Pacific moisture in. Several quaint towns have popped up around the wineries to accomodate tourism. This is also the area displayed in the film "Sideways." Our first stop of the day was at Bridlewood Winery. Next, Gainey Winery... not as good as Bridlewood in my opinion. Lastly we went to Presidio Winery, in the wonderful town of Solvang. Solvang was modeled after a Danish small town. The End!

Route 66
There was an excellent film documentary on this topic, it was called "Cars" by Pixar. I actually like about a block away from Rt 66. Santa Monica Blvd in LA is the western terminus of 66. Thankfully, it's not quite as dilapidated out here.

U.S. Infrastructure Found to Be in Disrepair
They can do all the studies they like, and lay out all the facts. The sad truth however, is that it isn't going to make a bit of difference. All we have in this country regarding infrastructure improvements is a bunch of empty rhetoric. Nothing will happen because there isn't any money to make it happen. All the money is tied up... we won't accept new taxes... there is NO money to do this stuff. Sure, we can keep adding it to debt, but is that any more responsible than letting the infrastructure fall into disrepair? There are some fundamental problems with the way our country is set up that is holding us back... and I don't claim to know what they all are. I think it's obvious a large piece of it has to do with the fact that self-centeredness has taken a prominent position in our country. "If it doesn't benefit ME, NOW, I'm against it."
