Columbus Blue Jackets Discussion
Interesting that this article was written from El Segundo, CA. That's the city I work in! Probably was because the BJs played the Kings last night.

Cincinnati: Cincy Images 2006 Photo Review
Fantastic photos, as always. Are you going to do a non-Cincy 2006 photo thread wrap-up as well?

Other States: Passenger Rail News
I hope they build that high speed line in California, it would make exploring the rest of the state seem much less cumbersome. I'm emphatically going to vote "yes"!

General Roads & Highway Discussion (History, etc)
It's interesting because I didn't really know anything about arterials while I lived in Columbus, but here in LA they are a lifesaver. If I had to take the freeways home in LA it would take me an hour and a half at least. However, by mixing freeways and arterials it takes between 30-45 minutes.

Enquirer asks, "Best Downtown, Cincy or Indy?"
I don't think it has anything to do with mass transit... it has partly to do with perceptions of the respective downtowns by locals, and partly to do with tangible differences between the two in terms of safety/visual appeal/and number of bars & restaurants. I don't think it is fair to say Cincy can't replicate Indianapolis' DT success, I'm sure they can. I think the reason it is taking a lot of time is due to political infighting between the city/county, and people's perception of DT, which is hard to change. In Cincinnati's favor I feel they have superior architecture, geography, and building density. If these can be leveraged I don't see why Cincinnati couldn't match, if not surpass Indy.

^If all the Kenwooders migrated to the DT shopping then it wouldn't be relaxed anymore! That wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing though...

Cincinnati: General Transit Thread
I think Cincinnati would be better served to focus on an at grade light rail system, not an underground heavy rail. I have a very difficult time seeing the Cincinnati voters approving the kind of bonds that would be necessary to finance that sort of system. I also feel an at grade LRT would be more than sufficient to meet Cincy's needs. It would be especially nice if it could be leveraged to connect people to new TOD in OTR, Fountain Square, and the sports venues/eventual Banks development.

Tulsa: Developments and News
One problem I see with this is that the river adjacent to Tulsa dries up in the late summer! When I went through there on my cross country trip there was hardly any water in there... This project would look funky surrounded by a bunch of dried up riverbed a few months a year.

The Great Snowstorm of December 1, 2006
My 1998 Trans Am has 90,000 miles on it and still is running ok. Did have to get the differential replaced about 10,000 miles ago and have had to do a lot of minor work (EGR valve, seals & gaskets, power antenna). Check engine light just came on yesterday though... so we'll see what's the problem now!

I used Graebel to move from Columbus to LA and they were fantastic. They will negotiate pricing too so make sure you push them a little bit.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Fountain Square Ice Rink
There's a tall building straight ahead, and a slightly shorter matching building to the left of it. The Ascent is going up immediately behind the slightly shorter matching building. Ohhhh, I see it now. Thanks RV. I had thought it was further along than that from the photos Grasscat had posted. (See below).
