New York, NY in 2006
NYC is one of a kind... I've only seen Manhattan on foot, thanks for showing some of the other areas!

Logan Square
Definately wouldn't mistake that with Logan in Philadelphia!!! Very well researched, as always :-)

Yeah, photobucket adds pictures one at a time too... maybe I'll try imageshack. Thanks for the advice! Also, Picadilly and Parliament added!

London, UK
Thanks all, I've got tons more pics to post but I'm just getting frustrated with photobucket. Is there a way to resize all the pics, or do you have to do it one by one? All mine look huge on UO unless I resize them.

Cincinnati & Columbus in March '06
Fantatic shots of campus. I love the shot of all the people on the sidewalk, don't see that kinda pedestrian density in Ohio very often. I can't believe you got that shot of the plane, that had to be timed perfectly! Cincinnati looks kinda gloomy in these pics, but I'm sure the weather didn't help things.

I've started to figure this pic posting thing out now... more to come when I have time! :-D

London, UK
This is my first photo post, so if the pictures don't work... sorry! Otherwise, these are photos from my week long trip to London. Hands down one of the coolest experiences of my life. The weather was a little sketchy so the light quality isn't the best... but they came out ok. Some of the non-London pics are from Essex (seaside), Berkhamsted (farmland), and Bath(Roman spa town). The pictures all came out the wrong size (too large)... I'll keep working on this... sorry. In the meantime you can check out the photos at http://s63.photobucket.com/albums/h130/sgoldlondon Hey, I got Westminster Abbey to work now! Someone must be watching over me... And 1 pic for KJP for now You'd better mind the damn gap... Traitor's Gate @ Tower of London Trafalgar Square Tower Bridge + adjacent alleyway The Tower of London The Thames River House I stayed at in Wood Green, outer London The London Eye The Texas Embassy, where's the Ohio Embassy??? Police box Random Streets King's Cross St. Pauls London skyline w/ the "Gherkin" Essex seaside Pub Portrait Gallery Time Square... I mean Picadilly Circus! Peugot Parliament Old French Embassy

Columbus: General Business & Economic News
The Borden Building is absolutely beautiful too. All the glass has a subtle blue tint to it, and the facade walls are white. When the sun sets and the sky reflects off of it it is incredible.

Suburbanites: what would draw you downtown?
There is truth to this, but I don't believe it is the absolute truth. People definately do move to the suburbs for status reasons: to associate with a prestigious city, and to buy a large house on a lot of land to impress other people. In America we are typically judged by our perceived wealth, and these things all add to the perception of wealth. Although in my opinion, it doesn't really impress a whole lot of people and just covers up peoples insecurities about themselves. However, there are valid reasons for moving to suburbs that don't relate to status. Namely, inner-city schools suck, plain and simple. Also, statistically, suburbs are going to be safer than the inner-city. I, myself, live in the city. I find the suburbs to be anti-social, and void of culture... things I feel would detract from my quality of life. I don't have kids, however. When I have kids the question of schools will come up, and then I'll have a hard decision to make...

The Great Cincinnati Conservatism Thread
Monte, That chart you displayed shows low curret vacancy for Cincy's CBD and high vacancy for suburbs like Mason and Kenwood. However, if you look at the absorption, you see that the CBD is losing tenants and Mason and Kenwood are gaining them. Does this concern you as a potentially bad trend?

Louisville, KY: Museum Plaza
I don't understand why this topic is drawing so much attention on UrbanOHIO :wtf: There's a great argument about it on SSP, in the Midwest region. That seems a more appropriate place for all this.

Nothing beats the McDonald's in Downtown NYC near Wall St with the chandelier, marble tables, and piano player. Now THAT'S classy... :wink2:

Weird Ohio and Ohio Oddities - A Book Review
Get "Building Ohio" by Jane Ware. That is one of the best guides for urban areas in Ohio. She has a rural edition as well, but I haven't checked that out.

Wow, it's great to hear they still anticipate it being built. I was starting to get a little worried by the silence...

Columbus: Random Development and News
In terms of rail transit in Columbus, COTA seems pretty serious about the Fasttrax light rail program. They have been working for some time now on federal approvals and funding issues. I really wouldn't be shocked to see Columbus some time in the next 10 years take a stab at this.
