  1. NOOOoooooo! I really feel bad for Dayton... she's not a bad town but time has just been very cruel to her.
  2. Agreed... this look like one of those pleasant circumstances where the actual product looks better than the rendering.
  3. Wasn't City Center initially successful until the suburbs torpedoed it with Tuttle, Easton, and Polaris? I think metro Columbus just overdeveloped its retail in the peripheral parts of the city and City Center was unable to draw people away from newer malls. I agree that it is possible for downtown malls to be successful, as they are in Toronto and San Francisco. There just has to be a reason why people would chose the downtown mall over the suburban malls... presumably long after the newness wears off.
  4. As happy as I am to see this dead zone get revitalized, it concerns me that development of this scale is occurring outside the city of Columbus. The damage to the city of Columbus in my eyes is two-fold... lost tax revenue AND increased commercial/residential capacity in the central part of the city that has to potential to push rents down and vacancies up. I'd prefer to see downtown get this increased capacity rather than Grandview Heights... or for this to be around Grandview Ave...

  6. I remember when Otero's opened up :( Seemed like it did well when I worked downtown.

The Drexel Grandview Theatre, Grandview Cafe, and Stauf's had me visiting Grandview Heights on a frequent basis when I was in Columbus. Love that area.
  11. One really cool thing about St Louis is how they reused their old subway infrastructure for the current light rail. Some really nice tunnels you get to pass though on there.
  12. Gotta take advantage of the new traffic feature on google maps that shows you traffic speeds on arterials. I've been using this and it makes getting around during rush hour a heck of a lot easier! Got from my apt in West LA (west of the 405) to The Wiltern in under 45 minutes during evening rush hour recently! By the way, if there's a band you are interested in while in town playing The Wiltern I hightly recommend it... fantastic performance space. I dont drive. I just make sure I space meetings appropriately so that I arrive at meetings timely. the wiltern theatre on Western/wilshire? I have meetings in that area and that art deco building could be so much more. I'm not talking about looking at the building, I'm talking about actually seeing a show there. The performance space was restored not to long ago and the sound quality is phenomenal.

  14. You guys are definately spoiled when it comes to pizza... Columbus has so many great pizza restaurants.
  15. Oy, I'm going to have to start posting some LA threads to help its image a little bit amongst the Urban Ohioers. I don't find it nearly as depressing living hear as some make it out to be.
  16. Ha, I used to eat lunch at Ringside when I worked downtown! That place had a pretty cool vibe.

Lived in Hilliard from 6th grade through High School... always thought this was an interesting part of town. Glad to see Gun World is still there.
  18. Very very nice tour, thanks! I'm really liking a lot of the new developments around Columbus.
  19. Did the architectural boat tour one time and it was terrific.

One of my favorite parts of Columbus... had I stayed in Columbus and started a family I could defnately have seen myself there.
  21. And how do you the specific building your staff live in??? :wtf:

The reason I'm worried koow, is because what I always liked about the arena district was the "feel" of the area. I loved all the beautiful brick, the fact that it was lively but not overcrowded, and the fact that it felt somewhat authentic even though most of it was new build. If they drop some garish, tacky casino there I think it could really mess up the synergy of the area.

If they end up f*ing up the Arena District with this... I will not be a happy camper.
  24. Judging from these photos, St. Louis looks like Columbus in a lot of ways. I've only ever spent one day there... but it was a pretty good day! Thanks for sharing! What brought you out this way?

Easily one of America's most underrated cities IMO. Really enjoyed the shots from some of the neighborhoods, thanks!
