Greater Cincinnati Metro (SORTA) and TANK News & Discussion
Great News!!! 2,000 riders a day... not bad numbers! New UC/Metro Partnership a Sizzling Summer Success More than 100,000 bus rides have been provided to the UC community since the new partnership got rolling in the spring. Date: 7/11/2007 By: Dawn Fuller Phone: (513) 556-1823 Photos By: Metro New figures show the UC community is taking the bus and easing the traffic crunch in the Uptown – a result of a partnership launched in the spring. Metro reports that the UC/Metro partnership that provides free rides for the UC community has resulted in more than 100,000 rides for UC faculty, staff and students since the service first got underway on April 30. During the weekdays, nearly 2,000 UC riders per day are riding the bus, according to Metro. The two-year partnership is funded by UC Student Government and the university administration and provides free rides on any Metro bus, at anytime, on any Metro route for UC students, faculty and staff who produce their photo ID at the bus stop. The partnership aims to ease traffic congestion in Uptown as well as help riders save on gas and parking. During the hot summer months that can trigger heat and pollution alerts, the partnership is also allowing UC riders to become friendlier to the environment. Metro busses in the Uptown run on biodiesel made from Ohio soybeans which burns cleaner than conventional diesel fuel. Metro adds that each person who opts to ride the bus instead of driving the car to work conserves more than 200 gallons of gas per year, so as gas prices soar to more than three dollars a gallon, that’s a savings of over $600. UC Student Body President James Radley says Student Government is spreading the word about the service to incoming freshmen at Bearcat Bound Orientation. “We’re adding posters, fliers and other promotions about the partnership to our Student Spotlight display at Orientation, and we also met with the 30 Student Orientation Leaders (SOLs) so that they can help us promote the program to our new students,” Radley says. Special Metro services to Riverfest, Oktoberfest and Bengals games are not included in the partnership. For information on Metro routes and bus schedules, call Metro at 513-621-4455, weekdays from 6:30 a.m.-6 p.m.; Saturdays 8 a.m.-4 p.m.; or check www.go-metro.com Metro routes serving UC’s Uptown campus and the Uptown: Route 17 Seven Hills, Mt. There were lines for both places and the lodge was especially long.. it could have easily taken you 45 minutes to get in luckily one of the people i was with knew the manager so we were able to get in quickly... all in all i had some friends that commented things such as "downtown is really cool now" and " we nee to come down here more often", and the occasional "i believe you now brad, Cincinnati is pretty cool"....very good night! :drunk: not such a good morning :|

Cincinnati: Population Trends
While Hamilton County has dropped in population, i would think that it would be important also to look at the location of each major city in its county. For both Columbus and Indy they are in the geographical center of their respective county. Cincinnati, on the other hand, happens to fall on the southern most border of its county. Therefore Any of the suburbs south of the city..ie.. Northern Kentucky, are not included in their numbers. That is a large portion of cincy's suburbs that are not included in its county numbers due to city placement. Cincinnati ,is where it is, i am not complaining, i am just saying that the location of it, in regards to the county, limits its growth potential and population numbers , in general. Some something to think about (added) also, I have never heard any data showing the Cincinnati Region Declining. All the data i have seen suggests a pretty stable region, with anywhere from a 1-2% growth rate... correct me if i am wrong

UC running out of slots For first time, new students might have to wait to enroll BY KIMBALL PERRY | [email protected] If you're one of the more than 4,300 who hope to be incoming freshmen at the University of Cincinnati's main campus, you'd better let UC know soon - or you could wind up on a waiting list. This is the first time in UC's history that it has had a wait list for students it has accepted. http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070619/NEWS0102/706190366/1077/COL02&GID=pl+BUqQW2vbt8UQ8v2DO4dmF5eqWLBJXO8v5QDBZrls%3D

Cincinnati: Downtown: Seven at Broadway
the problem (at least what they said) was that they would need to get a very high cost (don't remember the numbers) per square foot for condos, or almost $2 per square (a month) foot for apartments if they were to develop this site, the way that the city, and they, wanted to... There are no condo areas that are close to this value in the CBD today

Cincinnati: News: Northside
There are three things that the council can do with a neighborhood plan. Accept - which means that they only acknowledge the existence of the plan (it will sit on the shelf and gather dust, never be looked at again) Approve - the plan is used to mold development in the neighborhood (this is what the northside plan got, this is also what they wanted) Adopt - Every development in the neighborhood must strictly adhere to the development plan, the plan must be revised, if even slight changes are wanted. ( very strict) Yes this was the plan that has been in development over the last few years and was done without the city planning department (due to lack of staff), it is supported by the neighborhood and also the businesses in the area. There were many unnecessary hurdles that the plan had to go through that the planning department made even more cumbersome, that hopefully would be avoided in future neighborhoods. Neighborhood groups should be commended, when they use little or no city money, in order to write their own well guided, thoughtful plan for THEIR neighborhood. That was not the case over the past few years, and today showed that this new council was not going to act like that any more. Good Job Planning Commission!!!

Cincinnati: Downtown: Seven at Broadway
At the meeting, the company took great offense when Tarbell suggested exactly what you are saying. They have been losing money on this property for years and are very eager to develop. He explained how they came to the Planning Comission with a plan a few years ago that only had about 50 condos and was only 5 stories. They mutually agreed that they did not think that this was the best use of the land. This developer has worked well with the city on many projects, and explained that they are eager to develop, but are waiting for the possibility to become available to develop.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Seven at Broadway
I was at the City Planning Commission meeting today and they approved a three year extension for the current developer. The devoper was VERY convincing that the market was not ready for the units. They want a quality product and would not settle for anything less. . . i am confident that they will be quickening the development of the site in the next 12-18 months.
