  2. i really am happy with a lot of these school designs
  3. yes people were using those public spaces. I don't know if Rando got a shot of it but there was a family and a group of kids playing in the park as we were taking pictures. There were people walking and biking EVERYWHERE. ...it is the first NEW development that felt ...well...planned

I am going to give you a quick glance at some of the things I noticed about indy.. First off…great trip rando…next, I just want to point out that Indy has probably the cleanest downtown I have ever seen. We discussed as we sat down to lunch what we thought of Indy downtown. It’s nice to be sure. Clean, kept some historical character, has lots of restaurants and shopping, has tall buildings, and is pretty dense in the central part of downtown (almost NO surface lots). These all sound like things that would make for a great downtown. We were left with a missing piece, a certain, I don’t know what. Maybe it was the fact that we couldn’t find a unique restaurant in the area (all we saw were things that you can get in any other city, Hard rock, rock bottom, champs, buca di beppo, mall food court, sub shops...all national brands, nothing that was signature to ONLY Indy), Or maybe it was the fact that there was no street noise. I don’t think I heard a horn blow or someone yell the whole time I was there. There were plenty of cars, but everything just seemed to flow way too smoothly for a city. The wide sidewalks were awesome but it allowed you to stay secluded from all of the people. If you didn’t want to get within 5 feet of anyone you didn’t have to. Maybe it was the lack of that urban grit that I have become accustomed to (and like) in most Midwest cities. It was almost as if everything was over-planned, over-clean, over-suburbanized. I never really felt like i saw something that made me remember Indy. Yah the mall is cool, but on the inside it is not really too different from any other mall. Yah the monument is large and very, very cool looking. But it just didn’t strike a chord with me like come cities have. When we discussed why the city looks and feels the way it does, our reasoning came up to be pretty much the same. Indy is a convention town. People come to Indy for conventions, b-ball games, band competitions (some of the largest in the world…2 world champions are crowned here…I know I am a loser), business conventions, the Indy 500, and all sorts of events, which is awesome! But, it seems as though instead of giving their visitors something special, something unique, something Indy, they just give the same stuff that they are used to back home. If people have eaten at buca-di-beppo, they know it is good, they will eat there again. When you are at a conference, maybe you just want to feel, safe, comfortable, and almost like you are at home. Honestly, there is almost NOTHING bad about the downtown…just nothing too good either… I just found my trip there to be …well….blah… nothing was describingly…. INDY… P.S. that was a lot longer than i anticipated :-D

I always get it hot...that is the thing that i love the most, the greasy mess that is subby's...(drool)
  8. No Cincinnati Love for partying schools?? I have been to Kent state, OSU, BG, and OU for extended stays and here is how i would rank them. 1. OU - i went for halloween 2. tie OSU and UC - they both have a great nightlife outside of the area directly around them. They both go pretty crazy throughout the week. I will never forget "liquid dope" night at, is it 4 kegs? I also am a fan of the pub crawls at UC, also i have never seen a longer line to get into a college bar,on a tuesday, than at uncle woody's on greek night. At both schools they are just "normal college students" who want to get drunk when they have nothing else to do...just like almost ALL other colleges in the nation 3. BG - GREAT BARS!!!! i agree with previous posts that JUNCTION is the ****!
  9. yeah dfly, I had always had high hopes for the new intersection, and of course, i get crapped on with a new super-walmart. but, i was looking at the section south of benchwood. The city has recently re-zoned that area to highway business, retail and office space. the only thing that has been developed so far is a Ruby Tuesday's. There is a LOT of land still to develop. Also inkaelin, Vandalia and Butler township actually put a merger on the ballot a few years back and it was voted down by a long shot. But, the property that i am talking about is on the east side of the airport access highway and is in the city corp. limit. on the other side of the highway it is butler township. i have seen plans for 2 options...one) take out the highway and expand the airport (looking less and less likely, with talks of the airport expanding north east) and putting an intersection over the airport access road in order to spur development. Anyone who knows the area( which i doubt most do) can see that this would fill in a prolific hole in the development pattern of north dayton.

i am pretty sure it is in cali, no?
  12. the area is on the border of butler township and vandalia. If development were to occur, it would be in both vandalia and butler township. The city of Dayton ownes a wholebunch of land in the vicinity as well. I think that they were planning to build an "airport office/retail park". Let's just say that this development goes through, both the city of Dayton, butler township and vandalia will be trying to get the retail/ office development in their area. With a JEDD, they don't have to bicker, they can have a solid plan for the whole area, without worrying about who get's what tax dollars... This is what a JEDD is meant for , no?
  13. That's funny I know Larry Taylor, he is a good man...for a car salesman
  14. I think that a JEDD would be perfect for the area. I am pretty sure that the City of Vandalia just bought a whole bunch of acreage right next to the airport access road. Which has good access to both I-70 and I75. I don't know what Vandalia had in mind when they snatched up the land but they definetely are thinking of something big. If you have never heard of the area it could possibly work for a retail situation. It would have Access to the airport, I-70, I75 hence why it is known as the crossroads of America. There is also the benchwood/wyse road intersection on I-75 which is only about a mile from the intersection...
  15. So here is a question, maybe we should start a new thread. There is still a decent amount of residential growth in the northern suburbs..aka vandalia, northmont area, troy, tipp city. Is there enough residents and money to support a small retail area.. a la Anderson towne center in cincy? I think that a smaller Lifestyle center could attract people from some of the northern regions in darke, preble and mercer counties…what do you think? Is Dayton already over-saturated? Where would it be placed if it were to be built? (my vote would be at the new interchange in Vandalia/butler township(restaurant row) or maybe in tipp city or Troy.)
  16. LOL, Easy ColDay...isn't the Dayton mall building a large expansion and renovation?
  17. this looks great...so wait, is it one or 2 towers?
  18. i stopped by during the open house...they had the NEW buses all lined up. First off...it is pretty impressive I was with friends who haven't been downtown for a while and after seeing this and after me explaining the fountain square project they were all pretty enthusiastic about downtown. They asked if we should come down for some bengals games later in the season...i said that "i think that is the kind of things that they are planning"...this project is just one of many that hopefully will slowly change the perception Secondly, The buses are pretty neat...i think that the plan is to have 40 of the new buses in service on monday the buses seem much more modern... there are no steps when you get on, so it is a little different...they look good... all in all...good project

  21. yah Vandalia....no too shabby... :-D
  22. thanks man, i love you too... This question is open to anyone. Where are jails in other large cities?? where is the Franklin county (c-bus) jail? what about Indy? what about san fran? or Austin? I'm just trying to get a feel....in the most progressive of cities....where are the county jails?? are they in the city or in the far reaches of the county/metro BTW...rando if we continue this discussion...lets continue it in the right place...lets move this to the Hamilton county jail thread....for anyone else...please answer my question there...but please answer it
  23. ^ Memorial Hall (yes CCM...it is mostly practice rroms and offices for professors...BEAUTIFUL music comes from those walls...when you walk by..people always have their windows open and you can hear the music........Darn it Rando you are making me wish i was back at school...)
  24. i recall the reasons being...because they do not want to transport inmates back and forth to court over to large of an area. They want to keep it relatively close to the courthouse given how many times they will make the trip...not to metion...MOST OF THE CRIMINALS ARE FROM CINCINNATI!!!....why would you put it in green township...NO CRIMINALS...NO NEED FOR THE JAIL TO BE THERE...i say put the jail in queensgate...no residents/close to downtown...
  25. too easy
