Columbus: Huntington Park (Clippers ballpark)
Yeah...I can live with Huntington Park. Huntington Field might have been a little classier sounding, but I'll take that over Lifestyle Communities Park!

Columbus: Brewery District Developments and News
I just got the fancy shmancy flyer in the mail the other day. Apparently they're having Archie Griffin and some other pseudo-celebs there for the grand opening tomorrow night. Some free food type things too. I'll definitely be walking over to check the place out. And on the 2nd floor windows...I've been walking by the site for months and think that they're real. I'm pretty sure that you can see the steel of the roof through them. Hopefully they'll have a police officer in the parking lot like the German Village Giant Eagle to keep carts from wandering off to my hood, and cars using the lot as long term parking.

They're usually OK. The problem is that the Yankees just go out and buy big leagers instead of bring guys up through thier system.

Columbus, Ohio Among Best Cities To Raise A Family.
Add the "healthcare" and "college educated residents" factors to that and I understand how it's on the list. I think Boston has the highest percentage of college educated residents anywhere in the country.

Columbus: Random Development and News
Brewmaster replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & Construction- OR, the city can think about pushing the light rail plan. Less auto commuters means cheaper parking and/or more room for development. $3/day from the park-and-ride is going to be cheaper than $100/month at the parking lot.

^ Yep...by far one of the scariest interchanges out there. It'll promote sprawl...but save lives, so I'm all for it!

Raising awareness of urban living
Well then I guess you mean me! And I did just buy a condo downtown (brewery district) a few months back. I've bragged about downtown living so much that I've even gotten a few of my coworkers to consider it. Once we get 10k people downtown, I feel that the word of mouth advertising and energy in the city will be enough of an attraction in itself. Now...will we be able to get the the 10k goal without really selling downtown to the masses? Idonno.

Columbus: Downtown: RiverSouth Developments and News
Brewmaster replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionAEP actually has offices IN the Arena District too. They are located on the three floors above BD's Mongolian BBQ. I also they they fronted money for Nationwide Arena and are part of the "Founders Club".

Columbus: Downtown: RiverSouth Developments and News
Brewmaster replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI believe the catch phrase on this board is "megaproject". It's hard to imagine those 23 blocks of mostly surface parking and run down bars converted to a mixed-use neighborhood. I think they've got the right people for the job, and trust that Nationwide will do as nice a job here as they did in the Arena District.

How to Kill a City (Cincy - Nick Spencer blog post)
Doesn't sound like anything different than what's happening in 90+% of all of America's cities. Hmmm.

Columbus: Brewery District Developments and News
I stumbled across this while browsing the net. The site contains all of the display boards used in the design competition. Some of my favorites weren't winners, but the winners seem OK too. http://www.neighborhooddesign.org/whittierchallenge/entries.html I like the KKG submission due to the street/building layout and the inclusion of a school, market, a central park, and a community rec center. I also really like the wind turbines along I-70. Talk about giving Columbus the "green" label. The architecture of the Dupont submission is nice because it stays consistent with the surrounding Brewery District buildings. The Trott, et. al. submission is the "active surface living system" (venice style canal). I think the design is very unique, but it doesn't seem to have the density that other designs do. Perhaps the city can fill in the empty spaces with the school and rec center that I really want.

Statement Skyscrapers
This conversation makes me think of the Galleria area in Houston (the ultimate sprawl city). It's like a second downtown, and try as they may, they haven't been able to manage the traffic increases over the past 10 years. It can take you 10 minutes to drive 3 blocks in a "suburb"!!!

Is your city mean to the homeless?
This seems like a great law to me. Why are homeless advocates against something that puts homeless people in shelters and on the path to recovery? Sometimes I think advocacy groups just complain for the sake of complaining.

Why doesn't Columbus's southside grow as fast as the northside?
Yep. Does anybody have a guess at how many people 70,000 jobs could support? If the average worker has a 3 person family (assumption) that's 210,000, but there will be support service jobs for all of those people as well.

Why doesn't Columbus's southside grow as fast as the northside?
I think the south side of town is more industrialized than the north side. They've got landfills, the old trash burning plant, the wastewater treatment facility, Rickenbacker and all it's associated warehouses, scrapyards, junkyards, and I think there's also some sort of smelly gravel processing facility. None of them are really attractive to live near. The north side also has all of the highway infrastructure to boot. I will say that the Stringtown Rd. area has grown by leaps and bounds over the past two years.
