Cleveland Browns Discussion
I thought the same thing. It's almost insulting to suggest that the team travel to the agent's offices.

Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) Projects & News
That all depends on how you look at it. If our politicians do thier jobs here, this is a huge opportunity to bring loads of federal dollars into the state through inspection programs and bridge rebuilds. Lots of jobs! Also, I heard the Town St. Bridge in downtown Columbus got a ranking in the 20's! eeesh. It's actually to the point where you can see more rebar than concrete. :-o

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Good news...now Thomas takes all of the snaps at LT, Shaffer takes all of the snaps at RT, and Tucker can slide into RG (where he played on a Rams team that won the Super Bowl). Now you're line looks like LT - Thomas LG - Steinbach C - Fraley (Bentley?) RG - Tucker RT - Shaffer

Columbus: Downtown: Highpoint / Columbus Commons
This is much better than anything involving Casto. Anything he touches downtown turns into a 5 year delay.

Cleveland: Wind Turbine Construction News
That's a pretty ignorant statement. I'm pretty sure that AEP owns wind generation in western states where it makes sense. Wind is firmly out of the money in most of Ohio, and might just barely be marginal in the Northwest. Under good conditions, wind has a 25% capacity factor, meaning that if you need 1000 MW of new generation, you need to build 4,000 MW of wind generation widely distributed across areas that are unlikely to be served by adequate transmission capacity. Also, think about the weather this week. When it's very hot and humid (the time of highest electric demand), the wind barely blows, so you're screwed. I might agree with your statement about them being unmotivated. They're trying to build the cheapest generation capacity for thier customers in Ohio, and that's not wind. If you want to motivate them, change the economics.

SkyBus launches / Sky Busts
Just had my first Skybus experience to San Diego. I thought it was fine. The seats were a tad bit smaller than normal (but I'm 6'4"). I did manage to get an exit row seat for the return flight, so that helped things out. Boarding simultaneously from the front and back of the plane was rediculously fast. I've never seen a full plane get boarded that quickly. We didn't order any food or drinks, but the drinks were only $2, alcohol was $5, and the food was $8-10. People around us said that thier food was really good. Aside from not getting any free peanuts and drinks, it was a pretty normal flying experience. For $10, I'm really not allowed to complain either. Here's hoping that our trip to Oakland in September goes that well.

Peak Oil
Refineries are starting to come back online...almost 92% refinery utilization. They're drawing down crude inventories (causing crude prices to go up) and increasing gasoline inventories (causing gasoline prices to go down). Also, this is a time of year when gasoline inventories typically plummet, but we're increasing them or at least holding them steady. When traders compare where we stand compared to previous years, they're starting to get more comfortable with our gasoline situation.

Any idea why the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation is trying to promote telecommuting? Shouldn't they be promoting the expansion and use of rail and public transportation instead? Why does a state promote telecommuting in the first place? Doesn't that take away loads of tax revenues from gas taxes, traffic violations, office space taxes, and sales tax on everything from new cars to that sweater you picked up at the mall on your way home from work?

Columbus: Easton Developments and News
Brewmaster replied to ColDayMan's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionWell...Columbus has so many jobs because it was great at spotting the Post WWII trend of suburbanization. The city saw people and jobs leaving center city in droves, so rather than letting the tax base move away, they brought the tax base to them by annexing more land. If we hadn't annexed all of that land, Columbus would be in dire straights just like Cleveland and Cincy.

Columbus: Easton Developments and News
Brewmaster replied to ColDayMan's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI'm actually just thankful that Easton is inside city limits. Sure it sucks call center jobs out of downtown, but at least it doesn't suck tax revenue from the city.

Can't really say that I'm suprised. Lee Raymond and Daniel Yergin aren't really known for bearish statements regarding oil supplies.

It doesn't look like the design is going to change much...I just walked by this morning and there was a huge banner with the rendering on it. It said "Tranparent Justice!".- Columbus on YouTube
Basically living in German Village, I chuckled a little when I saw the video. Things are definitely more community oriented here than just about anywhere else, but I kinda shook my head at the clarinet player. Then, this weekend I was walking through Schiller Park and enjoyed a guy playing a mean banjo by a fountain. Maybe it's not so far off.- Haverhill: Industrial Developments
Hmmm...I wonder if this is related to the Coal to Liquids plant (Baard Energy) near Youngstown.- Ohio ethanol production
Meanwhile...soybean acreage dropped from 75.5 million acres planted to 67.1 million acres planted according to the Ag. Dept. See Pg. 15 of this report... http://usda.mannlib.cornell.edu/usda/current/CropProd/CropProd-06-11-2007.pdf- ODOT Policy Discussion
Wow! Has Beasley been reading the message boards here?!?!? I, along with many others, have used the "Department of Highways" line dozens of times!- Abandoned: Urbancrest: Easton South (Metrovia?)
Honey look at that a futuristic skywalk! Let's walk up there instead of walking down by these shops where a car might hit us. I love it here at "urban"crest! I can drive freely without having to stop at pesky stop signs and I can walk from one building to another without getting wet in the rain! - Columbus: Downtown: Franklin County Government Center Projects
