The renderings still look very cool...

I wonder how much of that 90+% reserve replacement is from recategorization of hard to get reserves due to the increase in the price per barrel of oil? In other words, when the price of oil goes up, known oil reserves can get recategorized from the "contingent resources" category (recoverable but uneconomical) to "proven" or "probable" resources because they become economical to get. It's not like we're discovering any massive new fields.

Columbus: General Transit Thread
I'll vouch for the TECO (tampa) Streetcar Line suckiness. I just got back from Tampa and had every intention of riding it, but didn't want to sit on a car for 45 minutes while it took me nowhere. It basically connects Ybor City with the arena, port, and aquarium complex with NOTHING in between. We were in Ybor City doing a little shopping/dining and had already been to the Florida Aquarium on a previous trip and had no need to go to the arena so we decided to save our $4. Another note...the system only uses one set of tracks, which necessitates the need for one car to pull into a station for another to pass (or else they'd collide head on). This required tons of track switching. When we were in a store in Ybor, the trolleys would roll over the switches and it would shake the whole building with a THUD!!! Having watched a YouTube video of Portland's modern system, it doesn't seem to do that at all. Also, Columbus' system would connect tens of thousands of residents by going into the densely populated german village/brewery district and short north/vic village/italian village. It would be great to extend that to OSU for even more ridership.

Columbus: Brewery District Developments and News
The Kroger is a little suburban, and the parking lot is a little large, but it sits back off Front St. behind a pedestrian friendly plaza that my dog loves. It's a funny thing about having a full service grocery store...if you live more than 3-4 blocks away...you drive. It's not like a smallish urban market where you might just walk down and grab some produce. When you go out and buy a 12 pack of toilet paper, a few paper towels, and a gallon of milk, you don't want to carry that back to your house if it's more than 1/4 mile away. Living only a few hundred feet away, we walk there at least 3 times/week, but if we lived in german village, we'd probably be driving and only going once/week. As far as the distance to downtown goes, I walk to the north side (opposite side) of downtown for work every day and it only takes me 18 minutes (~1 mile). I'm about 4 blocks south of downtown proper.

Oh yes...it's soo far away from downtown. ;) I'd say it's a solid driver and a wedge away from downtown proper.

COLUMBUS - 34 shots!
Grange is actually further south. That building houses mostly law offices. I'm not sure it has a name. The wing that juts out (buttress?) actually closes in "The Patio" in the Brewery District from Front St. It's nice from street level, but a little weird from this angle. ;)

Columbus: Huntington Park (Clippers ballpark)
No way...I'm sick of Columbus being a fairweather sports town. As a Cleveland transplant and die hard Browns, Tribe and Cavs fan, it's disgusting to watch as Columbus sports "fans" root for whomever is doing good at the time. To have Steelers and Bengals fans approach me to tell me how excited they are about the Browns latest draft just makes me queesy. It's time to draw a line in the sand about baseball. Let's get those bandwagon jumpers to declare an allegience.

^ Yep. If you look at the cost of gasoline as a function of GDP, it's cheaper now than it was in the 70's. That just means that we're more efficienct in our use of energy and the economy is still doing pretty well.

Brewmaster replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionWe've got one where you pull into stalls and go either up or down. It sounds like this one is a "valet style". You just park your car on a spot, and a fork lift thingy picks up your car and files it in a cubby hole.

SkyBus launches / Sky Busts
San Diego here we come! Two round trip tickets (after taxes) = $81.60 Three nights in a cheap hybrid hotel downtown = $195.74 Two 3-day trolley cards = $24 5 minute taxi ride to/from the airport = $30 That leaves quite a bit to spend on food/entertainment!

Columbus: Random Development and News
Brewmaster replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionIt does look a bit like the tower is eating the historical building, but I like it anyway. It's a little quirky and has character with all of the balconies and setbacks.

As I walked home last night, I saw regular unleaded gas at $3.49 in Columbus. It definitely added a little bounce to my step as I walked right by.

Lebron might have something to say about that. He's building a 35,440 square foot place in Bath Township... http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/6619522

Starbucks jolts customer
Brewmaster....Please step away from the PC.... nice and slooooooww. Put down down the new brand of coffee you drink as it has made you a little...... Oh, and by the way... Santa Clause and the Tooth Fairy aren't real either! Hmmm...I didn't think my response was any less rational than the lady in the article. ;)

Starbucks jolts customer
I gave up Starbucks when they wrote the Easter Bunny might be a figment of my imagination on the side of one of their cups. I was so offended by that remark because I've loved the Easter Bunny for my whole life. To think that someone would write such hateful things almost made me cry. I'll never drink their Easter Bunny hating coffee again!

SkyBus launches / Sky Busts
Again, as a consumer, I understand that you get what you pay for. I paid $200 round trip for two tickets to Oakland. I'm not expecting to be pampered, I just want to get from point A to point B. If they get me there on time, I'm happy. As for the plane types, I've flown all over the country on little Embraers (2+1 seating arrangement) and I'm 6'4". It sucks, but I've learned not to expect much out of air travel anymore. I pop in my iPod, shove my knees into the seat in front of me, and close my eyes.

SkyBus launches / Sky Busts
As a consumer...I love all of those things. What you need to realize is that you're paying for those services at all airlines, you just don't see them itemized. Skybus is just unbundling all of them so consumers can pick and choose air travel that best suits thier needs. I think it's a great business plan. It's akin to buying a Scion. They don't have all of the "sport package", "touring package", "grand touring package" options like other cars. They sell each option a la carte so you can choose only the options that you want.

SkyBus launches / Sky Busts
Idunno...CNN, USA Today, Buisness Week, Houston Chronicle, all covered it. They were also on Travelzoo's Top 20. There's buzz. They've also sold at least 60,004 seats after I booked my round trip flight to San Fran.
-
SkyBus launches / Sky Busts
Simply put: Skybus = Independence Air with less money. Don't you mean Skybus = Independence Air with a different business plan, shiny new planes, and MUCH MUCH more buzz? I mean, did Independence Air have 60,000 seats booked by 5pm on it's first day?

Columbus: Franklinton Developments and News
I've always thought that the only thing that will turn this neighborhood around is a mega-project on the scale of Jeffrey Place. I'm talking over 1,000 units. A developer really needs to have a huge chunk of land and build a whole neighborhood from the ground up. Franklinton just doesn't have the housing stock to go with the piecemeal approach. It'll never gather the buzz.
