Oh boy. You don't want to go ahead and depress us now do you?

Cleveland: Downtown: Playhouse Square Development and News
Maybe they used AI to design them. Seriously they look a little like what an artist or craftsman would create but instead are created by Al after having a bunch of theater marquee pictures downloaded.

Cleveland: Downtown: Playhouse Square Development and News
^ Right. When l saw the first renditions l thought the marquees were too uniform. Uniformity is not necessarily a bad thing but it can be. In this case l guess we'll have wait for the finished product but...so far l'm disappointed with what they came up with. What really bugs me is a bunch of theater marquees in a small area all lit up can be very stimulating. Add greatly to one's mood. And it's not rocket science either. There's no shortage of marquees to copy. But this effort? I don't know...

I'm just happy for the blue sky.

Cleveland: Downtown: Playhouse Square Development and News
I guess l'll have to wait until the finished product is all lit up at night but at first glance they look a little too plastic for me. Rather than reflecting the grandeur of the theaters inside the marquees look sorta cheap in the pics. Hope l'm wrong and they look great in person.

Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
These kind of reports are nothing more than clickbate. You can't really measure feelings or other type of subjective criteria. Ex. I always tell people who visit me from out of state that one of the reasons l live here is it's so easy. Easy to get around, affordable compared to the coastal cities my friends live in, etc. Low stress as far as l'm concerned. But my view is anecdotal. My neighbor may feel completely different. Look, Cleveland does have issues. There is a lot of poverty and our economy is not all that vibrant but most of us are doing fine. I think Cleveland has a nice combination of lifestyles. There's just enough of the things that make for a good life without the crushing crowds or over the top expense of those popular regions. Cool is not necessarily easy. There's stress in high cost of living or constant traffic.

Cleveland: Union Terminal (Tower City)
When l was growing up l used to be proud of our state. We were an economic powerhouse. We're still rich in a lot of ways but we have squandered our wealth and position as an innovator. We have been trending downward for decades. And who is too blame? I think it starts with our politicians and ends with our business leaders. Texas is politically conservative but economically vibrant. At least their conservative leaders know how to get things done. Ohio is conservative but doesn't know how to get out of its own way and get things done like Texas does. So we end up with the worst of both worlds.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
I get that there are competing interests and different ideas on what to do about the downtown lakefront but is it really as complicated as it appears or are we just making it more complicated than it really is? Every solution seems to present new problems. The more l read about it the more it appears to be a Gordian knot. Or maybe we just can't get out of our own way.

Cleveland: Union Terminal (Tower City)
As much as l would love to see Tower City as the center of rail traffic rather than the lakefront l'm not going to get my hopes up. There is just too much against it happening. Financial, legal and political. Unless there is is sea change in American mentality l doubt we ever decide to make rail a viable transportation option. More service in more obvious locations (locations like Tower City rather than the lakefront) will remain a pipedream until then.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
^ Very interesting. Admittedly l'm not a gun guy and l really don't spend much time thinking about who uses guns and where but if someone had asked me l would have thought more gun deaths occurred in cities than rural areas. Those articles serve as an eye opener. Careful what you assume.

Cleveland: Downtown: Justice Center Complex Replacement
Well Ken what you say makes sense from a number of standpoints. Building new in that location allows for great RTA connections. It helps kickstart the Bedrock river development. And finally but not least, two midrise structures saves on the cost. The only problem l have with those reasons is l want one highrise. Stupidly, I want the skyline to grow. So on one hand we have what appears to be a decision based on finance and logic and another based on emotion. Probably a good reason l'm not in charge of anything.

Northeast Ohio: Regionalism News & Discussion
If people on this forum reflected the views of the majority of people in the County we would already have some kind of a regional government. This most recent discussion is arguing nuance. We are all pretty much pro regionalism. But we're not going to get it because voters don't want to seed control of their local municipality and their pols really don't want to lose control. Taken as a whole, we are a stupid and selfish group - those on this forum notwithstanding.

Northeast Ohio: Regionalism News & Discussion
Sometimes we will read about unicorns existing in other places. I think there's some big ones out there in Louisville, lndianapolis and a few other places. But is that true really? When you talk to locals hereabouts no one has actually ever seen one. And what would we do if we did? The rumor is they're really big, giant even. That sounds threatening. Unicorns? l don't know, probaby just a tale to scare people.

You mean to say there's no value in "lnsert name here Basement?" 🤔 Yeah, maybe you're right.

Cleveland: West Side Market News & Info
The Market was a treasure. What's left is still great but things have changed. Society has changed. The old ethnic's that used to make up the vast bulk of shoppers are passing on. The Market needs a variety of customers to make it now. Maintenence has been deferred. If the Market is to remain viable it necessarily means some changes. I think the best we can hope for is a combination of the old way of doing business along with some of the things a new generation of customers want. Hopefully, that's what we'll get.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
I can't stand that kind of crime/vandalism. When you see it it feels like society is fraying at the seams. You come back to you car after a nice evening out and come upon a few cars with their windows smashed. So deflating.

Cleveland: Tremont: Development and News
Like a lot of issues there are points on both sides that can be contradictory and yet also true at the same time. It's true that light pollution can have a deleterious impact on the natural world. It's also true that lights can provide a positive impact on mood as well as making people feel safe. That shouldn't be discounted. Advances in LED technology have done much to eliminate the energy use and expense. So l think we're left with the impact light pollution does have on the natural world which is a real problem. I think society has to find a middle ground when it comes to outdoor lighting. We're not going to eliminate sprawl but if we were to concentrate accent lighting to urban areas we could mitigate a good portion of harm to the natural world. Birds would still be a problem though. Maybe scientists could experiment on finding the best lighting type and direction which produces the least harm. I consider myself a pro environment guy who also loves cities and cool lighting. So l find this whole discussion a difficult one.

Lighting! The gift that keeps on giving. Why more developers don't understand that something as inexpensive as modern LED Lighting can be the difference between a run of the mill building and a building that grabs your eye.
