Cleveland: Random Development and News
One bright light in another ranking where Cleveland comes up last...if/when the Centennial and SHW's old Hq are converted to housing they should fill up pretty fast. Based on how quickly new residential leases l would expect these two projects to get greenlighted sooner rather than later. Those two massive conversions filling up should keep the downtown population moving forward. Hell, we might even see that elusive City Target some day.

Remote Work
I didn't mean to imply that WFH is going to be the norm for everyone. Just that the option will become more mainstream. Of course many of those people will be required to show up in the office a few days a week. Even then there will be some jobs (or companies) that won't allow it at all but it does look like it's here's to stay in one form or another.

Remote Work
WFH seems to be permanent now - no going back. So with the excess office space either gone begging or candidates for residential conversions l wonder what the impact will be on new office building construction in our downtowns? It seems at best any new construction will have to be either some combination of office/hotel/residential or the occasional signature headquarters building. At any rate l wonder what that does to the construction momentum all those hot sun belt cities were undergoing? Have we seen skyline stabilization? It's hard to believe something so ubiquitous to America (the highrise office building) is going extinct but that appears to be the case.

Sort of a unicorn in that it's a growing concern in a dying business.

Cleveland: Downtown: Skyline 776 (City Club Apartments)
If someone had told me we were getting a purple apartment building with sort of a carport top and windows that jutted out at odd angles l would have said "Uh, probably not." But when l saw the pics of the building l loved it. It was very modern and different in what l thought was a good way. So if the end result is as cool as the pics l will be very happy. I think we need to modernize downtown and get away from the beige. Keep 'em coming.

Cleveland: Random Development and News
^ Without having a breakdown of the tax revenues we can't know how much was from the tax increase and how much was from new residents but regardless, l think we're missing a critical point here. Which is that the city of Cleveland is in a struggle not only with local suburbs but other states to keep wealthier people here. These people can live anywhere. If Cleveland isn't able to provide an environment that appeals to them they are out of here and they will be taking their discretionary income (and spending) with them. I don't want to turn the discussion into a class thing but the reality is a struggling rust belt city like Cleveland can't afford to just focus on its poorer residents. It absolutely needs to continue to provide incentives to wealthier people to get them and keep them. Not only do they provide tax dollars they also offer a needed expertise. I say that and l come from a working class environment but it is absolutely necessary to have ALL levels of income living here in order to make the city work. A Cleveland made up primarily of poor people is not going to make it. Sorry if that steps on some toes but it's the truth.

Cleveland: Cleveland Clinic Developments (Non-University Circle)
Oh some entity will (eventually) buy it but l doubt they will have the vision or resources to save the forest that surrounds the headquarters building. I get that it may not translate to the needs for an office in 2023 so it is coming down but those trees... The only way they are not leveled is if some non-profit environmental concern acquires it. And that's probably not going to happen. We're not that lucky.

Cleveland Heights: Development and News
We can debate the merits vs. unwarranted insider influence of Public Policy but this kind of legislation gets it right. It's a much needed shot in the arm for an inner ring suburb and it also saves a decrepit but still beautiful historic building in Cleveland Hts. Very happy to see this investment.

Cleveland: Cleveland Clinic Developments (Non-University Circle)
Years ago I attended some training and other meetings there. I knew the site as the TRW headquarters before the Clinic took it over. I remember looking forward to going there. It more than lived up to my expectations. Beautiful property and the office part was really attractive. Very serene atmosphere - almost like a retreat. But I also thought " This isn't going to last." It's too nice and there is way to much land devoted to forest/landscaping. So yeah, it doesn't surprise me that the Clinic wanted to unload it and it doesn't surprise me that they don't have any takers as is. When it does get sold I'm sure the buyers will level pretty much everything. Fast forward 10 years and the property will be indistinguishable from its surroundings.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
The ignorance isn't just about Lake Erie but a general ignorance of geography in general that Americans display. We like to think we're special (American exceptionalism) but in reality we're often quite clueless in so many areas.

Should we kickstart the process by starting a collection? I could throw in a couple of bucks.

Boardwalk. Just keep adding to the boardwalk. At some point we might hit a critical mass ensuing one long continuous track.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
Yeah the hard truth is all of the new stadiums built mostly with public money are for the benefit of the multibillionaire owners. It's disgusting. Sure the local city gets something out of it with some ancillary development that wouldn't have occurred otherwise but nothing close to the cost to taxpayers. Billionaire's getting billions handed to them by those least able to afford it. That's a hard pill to swallow if you have sny sense of equanimity and fairness. Capitalism at its worst. Having said all of that we have two choices. We can go the St. Louis route and forgo the NFL and all that comes with it or we can pay up. That's it. Think of it like a casino. We know going in we're most likely coming out poorer but at least we're buying a little entertainment. That's modern sports on a grand scale. If we want a piece of the action it's going to cost us big time. It's a losers game all for the benefit of billionaires. That being said...how soon can l vote yes and through my money at this thing. I'm human and nothing if not irrational. Stupid too but hey...l want to be part of the action so l'm on board. Build it and l will come (well not really. I'll watch it on tv but you get my drift).

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
I don't know what l like better. Seeing all the people enjoying the Festival, the sunny day or the background with SHW beginning to poke its nose into the scene? Whichever, it's all good.

Cleveland: Hotel Development
Bridgeworks is the one l want to see. Still holding out hope for that project. Imagine you're in town for the first time on business. lt's a late summer afternoon, you decide to go for a little walk. You cross the street and... what's this? A sweeping hillside park very alive with people enjoying the view. Hey look. There's river traffic too. This is Cleveland? I guess I'll have to elevate my preconceptions a bit. It just got interesting.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Irishtown Bend Park
Yes l tend to agree. The dye is cast so to speak. The hillside HAS to be stabilized so that will get done. All the previous growth has been cut down so it will be impossible to just leave it like that after the stabilization takes place. Something will be done. Some kind of civic space will result. But thanks to the selfishness of the family George we will just have to wait awhile longer to see what exactly. And waiting is something we surely have experience with in this town.
