What the hell...I'll send them an email at least.

Cleveland: Historic Photos
Nice photo! I'd say Cleveland has done a great job of filling in that space now. It may not seem like we are always playing catchup with development compared to the boom cities around the country but when you consider where we started from we are doing alright.

Canton: Pro Football Hall of Fame Village
^ Wow, I missed that one too. I do know hid firm has been great at re-purposing all those huge facilities that had gone out of business for one reason or another. And I agree, he has been very helpful to NEO in fulfilling that part of the market and making some $$ while doing so. Good for him and good for us.

Cleveland: Housing Market
In general l was a big believer in tax abatement for the city in the beginning. Much of the housing construction over the last couple of decades has been the beneficiary. I'm not sure what percent would not have been built but l think it would have been pretty high. Just when l think we have created enough momentum to get new housing built without the abatement we have entered into a period of higher interest rates. Obviously that will slow down construction. So because of that l'm still in favor of keeping the abatement or at the least beginning a wind down.

Cleveland: North Coast Harbor Developments
Must be the money. The bridge in your post say it would cost 5.5 million. I don't think the one we got comes anywhere close to that.

Ungainly and cheap? Niiice.

Outstanding! See how something as simple as lighting puts a smile on your face? it's why I prefer to see some kind of lighting display on the Standard building rather than a mural although either will be an improvement. But even grater bang for the buck is my plea to light those damn bridges in the Flats. I know I sound like a broken record but with the advances in LED lighting it's now pretty cheap and requires less maintenance. What a beacon they would be not just for the Flats but the whole city. That's a calling card to hang your hat on Cleveland.

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
So local officials are behind the ridiculous idea to demand separation (bollards, jersey barriers, whatever) of the public areas and the road through the Square? Yeah, because that's the only place in the city where a car can drive off of the road and into a crowd. Are you freaking kidding me! If it is the case that we were behind that decision then we are even more stupid than I thought. And too make it worse, NO officials in local government thought to stop this from happening. And when the money for the bollards couldn't be found they just put up the jersey barriers and left them there. Well except for the times they had them moved, then put back and wasted $$ again and again. This is our city government at work? Clueless idiots!!

Cleveland: Flats Developments (Non-Stonebridge or FEB)
Love it and l don't even play golf. Diversifying activities is the way to go. This may be a little thing but when added to the other activities already in the Flats it increases foot traffic. Working toward a critical mass one step at a time

Cleveland: University Circle: Uptown (UARD)
Damn! Is brick and mortar really dead? I get all the reasons why people haven't been shopping in stores like before but when you appear to have an location with decent foot traffic, no other options in the area and you STILL can't make it work...

Cleveland: NASA Glenn Research Center News & Info
^ Yes! We are the only NASA facility above the Mason Dixon line. Our center has always seemed like the red headed step sister within the NASA family. So much so that at times we have been close to even losing it due to cutbacks. Our leaders in government and business have got to figure out a way to make this facility more relevant. We need to put more emphasis into turning it into a real center for research, more investment, more high wage jobs. Not only has NASA Glenn been seen as an afterthought within the NASA family it's also been an afterthought in NEO. That has to end. If we didn't have Glenn and if NASA was expanding we would be putting in the effort to acquire a facility. But we don't have to fight to get it. We already have one. We just have to fight to make it much more than it already is.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Bridgeworks Development
Yeah, this is a little tricky. Any more changes plus time may end up scuttling the whole thing. Personally I liked the original version much better than this one. Too bad the project didn't get the TMUD credit. That would have solved everything. That corner is too prominent to build a cheap version of something because the more expensive version was cost prohibitive. If it was up to me I'd rather wait for the better product. With all the growth in the immediate area I think it's only a (short) matter of time until that location can justify a better quality and yes, more expensive version rather than waste it on something cheap.

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
Potential. The Flats have been hot and cold for awhile decades. The present iteration seems to be percolating at a decent pace. Many of us still remember the several years in the 1990's when it was one of the hottest places in the Midwest. It is a very different place now, more diverse and one with a much larger footprint. It's also quieter with less boats, less traffic and less people in general. For now. Thinking back, I still remain in awe of those nights when Old River Road was as alive as any party place anywhere. But this version has the potential for a greater impact. People live there now and many more will come as new housing is built. I think the single biggest contribution to life in the Flats will be the completion of the Towpath Trail. If the CVSR could stop there what a great asset that would be. When Bedrock is finished with the riverfront beneath Tower City imagine that section being a magnet for people as more of the river is opened up. When the peninsula's are built out that just adds to the equation. As much as I loved the old party Flats this new version will be a much more exciting one drawing in a more sustainable, more diverse user. It will take time but it is happening. We are actually turning Flats potential into Flats reality.

Cleveland: Downtown Office Buildings Updates
I see it as crack reporting. Besides, if we needed the details I'm sure the reporter would have told us. You know what they say; an educated public is just a pain in the ass. Carry on.

Cleveland: Random Development and News
^ I think turning around how things get done here and at what pace will be an ongoing situation. We are bucking a decades long way of doing business here. I think the old Voinovich Public/Private partnership had its moments but that has been broken for quite a while now. There has been a large change in leadership in many sectors recently. I do have considerable hopes for the Bibb administration. Plus I think if Chris Ronayne is elected to head the County government that will be a good thing. Now if we can get the business sector along with nonprofits and the manager class in local government to actually care about getting things done in a timely fashion we just might get somewhere.

Yeah, it just landed. I think it's heading over to the SHW site to join the other cranes.

Cleveland: University Circle: Circle Square
Such a welcome addition to the neighborhood. Now that the library is getting started the final piece of the project will be the last two buildings. If that happens that little corner will be so urban, so dynamic.

Cleveland: University Circle: Cleveland Clinic Developments
If true that's just crap. A building of any height can have first floor retail or whatever is deemed "welcoming." Height has nothing to do with it. As long as the Clinic keeps designing the campus the way it has it will continue to not be welcoming. Height has nothing to do with that. UH is much more integrated. Mayo is even more integrated. Integrating with the community is a good thing but from my experience it's not something the Clinic is interested in, regardless of the occasional lip service. So, if the Clinic is only going to pay lip service by pretending to care about opening up more to the surrounding community but not actually doing that they might as well continue to design as they please including building tall if desired.

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
Setting aside my personal bias for "big" and my agreement with ExPatClevGuy on the view of the classic Landmark building from the south looking north I do see a problem here. That being IF that view of the Landmark building was protected it would necessitate building several low rises from Ontario down to the river. What would be the point and what would that look like? I'll answer my own question. No point and not much.

Cleveland: University Circle: Cleveland Clinic Developments
If I'm reading this correctly it looks like the Neurologic Institute will be set back from Carnegie. If so does the entrance face Carnegie and is that little green rectangle going to be a landscaped area? Too bad the Pathogen Center will be broken up into three buildings. It seems a little odd unless they expect each of them to focus on different research. At any rate this is the kind of development that Cleveland needs to zero in on. Build on your strengths and create a critical mass so money will beget more money and more talent. Over my 20 years at CCF I had an office in the S, T and Cole. Believe me, the S and T building are straight out of 1930 and not in a good way. That whole group of building from the original one facing Euclid (that IS a classic one) running through S, T and whatever else is attached is old, inefficient and does not speak to the message the Clinic is trying to convey - that being a 21th century organization. No one who works in those buildings will miss them. As to what or when they will be replaced with after demolition I'm sure the powers to be will come up with something.

Cleveland: Downtown: Gateway Megaproject
Alot to digest here but the most interesting tidbit for me is news about the Stark property. Potentially a different buyer...not Bedrock? If it's not HBSE then who else is in the picture with "deep pockets"? No one l can think of. And it would make sense from a proximity standpoint. If baseball is pushing a Ballpark Village then the existing Gateway land available is really not all that suited for one BUT adding the Stark site would enable HBSE to do anything really. That WOULD be outstanding. And l can't see any of it happening until Dolan gets that minority partner. So all this potential real estate talk tells me new Guardians ownership is close and man, do we need it! If the above is true that allows Bedrock to focus on the riverfront without being distracted by the Stark site. And they'll need that focus because the riverfront property is huge so good news there as well. Developing that site completely should take a decade so the sooner they get started the better. No need to get distracted by building on the Stark site too. Watching all this take place is going to be fascinating.

Cleveland: Downtown: Huntington Bank Field
Agreed. Over the years l've read the stadium was built quickly and on the cheap. The idea being to get a team back and playing as soon as possible. That decision leads me to think the people behind that approach thought "Let's get going now and not worry about what happens down the road." Typical short sided thinking. So if the current stadium wasn't built to last and there's no room on the lakefront to build a new one while the team continues to play l think a new stadium will be built in the area around East 20th and St. Clair as opposed to the site south of the baseball field. If that happens we would then finally be able to really open up the lakefront for development. That's likely to happen and if we're really lucky maybe RTA extends the waterfront line south to connect the new stadium then CSU and finally creating a downtown loop. I'm probably dreaming here but you never know.

Cleveland: Downtown: Skyline 776 (City Club Apartments)
The footprint is really not all that big. Now that they've actually started construction l would expect the building will begin rising in 3 months or so.
