  1. Brightline... that's a new one (at least to me). So Ken, if l understand you correctly you are saying there are two possibilities for increaseed rail service in Brightline or Amtrak. One or the other but not both, right? Ok, so as long as we're dreaming put me down for a Tower City rail hub and not the lakefront. The bones are already there plus a CVSR stop seems to work better at TC. Who knows what if anything gets built. It's tough enough to get one development (Lakefront or Tower City) built, let alone two of them. And it sure doesn't bode well that both are looking to include rail AND to pull that off requires politicos to choose between one or the other. Those guys already vacillate too much. Forcing them to pick one and THEN as actually work with the developers doesn't inspire alot of optimism on my part. We shall see.
  2. Well come on already Ken 😃
  3. Maybe the Kassouf kids are a different breed than the old man because if they are anything like Parkin Lot Jim this is just another in a string of announced and never built projects. I'll believe it when l see it.
  4. Nice looking building in KC but for me the best thing about that photo is how the 3 buildings create a nice little line-up. We have some nice looking skyscrapers but they all appear in isolation. No density. My favorite view of downtown Cleveland is standing on the southwest corner of East 9th looking north. That's a nice looking row of building's there even though none of them are the tallest. We have too many parks and parking lots. Look at Cincinnati. They don't have really tall buildings but they do have density.
  5. I agree with much of your post. When l first read about the need for a new headquarters which would include research and development l envisioned a mammoth multiblock development in the public square/warehouse district. Just imagine the instant energy that would have produced. Then we were told research would go to the Flats instead. Ok, not what l wanted to hear but it was still downtown. Finally we read that part of the project was headed to Brecksville. Oof. Well, at least it's still in the county. Could be worse. Can you say "Atlanta." At least we keep SHW here and we still end up with a pretty nice looking 600 footer. As was mentioned above, other than us urban development needs or Real Estate professionals the vast majority of people could care less. I guess we'll just have to be thankful for a glass half full. It is much better than the alternative. Right?
  6. So are the two pointed ends still of equal height? Before the release this week of more detail l thought they were but now it appears that the northern point is shorter than the southern point. Or did l just read the picture wrong?
  7. As a volunteer mentor at Refugee Response l can attest that the people l have worked with are a welcome addition to the city. They come here with nothing and all they want are what we want; a safe environment and an opportunity to make a living and take care of their family. You know, just like the rest of us regular Americans.
  8. Nice looking little building. Preaching to the choir here but it's small business's like this that are the heart and soul of a neighborhood.
  9. Thx Htsguy. I thought that field was East of the theater but l get little turned around there once l leave Euclid. Too bad they closed and tore down Mt. Sinai. I actually liked the modern blue addition. It really added density to the corner plus just having an additional medical group only enhanced the areas reputation as a medical destination. All of it had a Boston/Cambridge feel to it.
  10. Is West that brownish lot right next to the theater?
  11. Yes, construction is always better than pushing paper. I was being sarcastic but apparently too subtle in my approach. Any Clevelander who follows development in this town knows all too well announcements, renderings etc. are often followed by inaction. Who knows this time?We very well may see an exciting and unique structure break ground soon...or not. And so it goes.
  12. I'm starting to get real excited about the process. Just knowing another piece of paperwork has traveled from one desk/department to a different one has got me humming. Some people think the excitement is in the actual construction but us insiders know the real tension is in the paperwork.
  13. Very nice. I'd buy a ticket there just for the view lol. We sure have odd fixations don't we?
  14. Dingdingdingding!
  15. Since it's a slow development news day l'll bite. If Geis is already a developer why would they partner with a different developer? Also how likely is it that anything gets built? Timeframe? And finally, are we still looking at something in the range of 15-20 stories?
  16. Singapore can't be compared to any large city in America. It's predominantly ethnic Chinese while the US is a multicultural country. Its people have a strong sense of cohesion/rule following while the American mentality is all over the map from a belief in a unique American exceptionalism to the toxic freedom most of us abhor. I agree it would be smart to not only maintain our existing assets but also to construct new ones that benefit the community as a whole. Unfortunately America doesn't work that way. Because of our characteristics we will never all pull in the same direction.
  17. I really miss the old diner on Detroit Rd. In western Lakewood. I think Covid killed it. It's now a Mexican place. Nothing against Mexican restaurants (love Mexican food) but there is no shortage of them around here while there is a shortage of great greasy spoon diners.
  18. Seems to me one of the biggest problems with rail in NEO was the decision to build lines on the cheapest land available and not build them on land where people actually live. Connect riders where they live/shop to where they work. Rail cars using existing roads are commonplace in Europe and consequently much cheaper to build and operate. We don't have to reinvent the wheel, just copy what already works.
  19. Incredible building on the inside while the exterior is prime for tasteful accent lighting. Can't wait to see it.
  20. For what it's worth l turned down a job offer in Nashville in the 90's because l'm biased against the South. I guess l have my own brand of ignorance because while much of the South doesn't like Northerners (they actually do call us Yankees) l'm just as bad because l don't like Southern culture.
  21. Wow, the contrast is so great between old and new. While l love our big 3 when you actually see a picture with the new SHW tower inserted you realize just how old, beige and tired they look. Like one of those old west sepia pictures. Only they are not that old, they just look it. Who would have thought an old school conservative company like SHW would be the one to drag our skyline into the 21 century.
  22. The cutouts and vertical breaks lend themselves to creative lighting. And that would be another way to differentiate this tower from the others downtown. What we have now are lighted crowns but if SHW chose vertical and horizontal access lighting that would set them apart. Of course lMO they already possess an advertising icon in the cover the earth image. Millions of people already know that image so incorporating it into the design makes perfect sense to me. And just imagine how many colors could pour out of that bucket. Unfortunately from all reports using the icon doesn't seem to be in the plans. Another lost opportunity.
  23. Ugh. I hope the skin doesn't look anything like that. Too much happening there.
