Cleveland: University Circle: Circle Square
Really sorry to hear about those trees. Mature trees are so valuable. Whether it's a new housing development going up in a forested area or a new project in the city, mature trees are just in the way of the unenlightened. Granted, l'm patting myself on the back here but, come on, shouldn't the existing environment be more than an afterthought? Keeping mature trees can be done. All it takes is the mindset (and yes the budget will go up but l maintain that the finished product will look better for it).

Cleveland - a little more 'full' and a little 'less'
TWO sides of the Luman look great. The other two...not so much.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
Love the faux fish house design. This NOT Kenect.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
If it's anything like other Kenect designs don't count it. Nothing but bland on bland. Take a look at the original plans for the Flats East Bank. Now that was something to get excited about. The Kenect version? I don't know how they stay in business.

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
I realize that commenting on the Federal building in the SHW page is verboten but l just can't help myself. It drives me frickin bananas that the new outside wall is incomplete on two sides. It says something about how we do things in this country today when government officials sign off on work like this. It's the kind of crap you see in 3rd world countries. Rant over. Thank You.

Cleveland: Midtown: Development and News
What is it with this guy (Stark)? He has more plans than he does development. Maybe that's his real title. Planner, not developer. "Look at this plan. Wait, here's a cool one. How 'bout this one? Wow, this is really fun."

Cleveland: Ohio City: INTRO (Market Square / Harbor Bay Development)
Looks like the northern/eastern facing units are going to have some spectacular views of downtown. That's half the fun when you live in a place with amazing views. I'm surprised when most developers don't take into consideration the views when the place is built. Just imagine the lake/downtown views the upper floors of the now dead Viaduct building would have had. I'd pay quite a bit more just for the that view. Here's hoping the next developer there will understand that your not building in a vacuum but you have to take in the views as well.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Bridgeworks Development
I'm sure the Flat's west bank will continue to see development. The problem is I really loved The Viaduct design. It was exactly what is needed on the site. So we'll probably end up with a non-descript 12ish story building that will look something like the Edge near CSU. Now if and when whatever developer acquires the site and places a call to the firm (Dimit?) and uses the plans I will be thrilled. And from the UO comments it looks like I'm not the only one who feels that way.

Cleveland: Random Visualizations & Massings
First I'm reading about the Viaduct building no-go. Ugh! That was by far my favorite (potential) new build. It had everything. Balcony's galore, nice height, great location and outstanding views of downtown. kjp always says don't get emotionally involved until a building at least breaks ground. I know Ken, I know. But a fella can still dream can't he?

Now you're talking. Too bad we aren't getting anything close to that.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
^ Yes, I too agree that the Main Avenue bridge is a beautiful span when viewed from the Flats. From ground level it is an imposing and yet somehow elegant structure. It connects both sides of the river visually and gives definition and a sense of place to the Flats. At the same time the apparent need for a highway ramp that divides the waterfront from downtown is a major problem. The question I have is, is there a way to save the bridge and yet somehow eliminate the highway separating it from downtown? If so, that would be the best of both worlds.

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
At the rate this project keeps spiraling down by the time it opens in 202? I'm afraid we'll end up with a giant cardboard box. I say we cut bait on the whole thing and turn those empty lots into a Walmart. From what I understand Walmart is very popular with the people. Problem solved.

Cleveland: University Circle: Cleveland Clinic Developments
While the details are sketchy this appears to be GREAT news. As a retired Clinic researcher I know firsthand the value of our medical institutions. They possess an international reputation and are our most powerful calling card. Other than the orchestra and possibly the art museum our reputation outside Cleveland is rather non-descript. But our medical institutions carry real weight and as such should be the focus of our investment. This news is exactly where we should be going. Smart cities identify their strengths and leverage accordingly.

Jeeze Cleve if we're going to copy another city's design why the hell are we copying anything from OkC? Last I looked no one is rushing to see all the amazing design coming from that town. If we have to copy someone at least copy from a place known for excellence in design. I know SHW is a stogy company but paint can be cool too. After all it already has all the colors in the rainbow. Have a little fun SHW. You're allowed.

Cleveland: West Side Market News & Info
It really pisses me off when the city holds onto control of assets like the Market and puts political people in charge of organizations in which they have little or no experience. Even the best intended political hack is not going to be as effective as someone from the industry. Competence and experience always trumps political connections. As long as cities like Cleveland place more value on political control over what's best for the entity we will suffer the consequences. I hate sunbelt growth while we stagnate but I have to admit one of the things they do right is place more emphasis on running their institutions like a business while we too often run ours as political fiefdoms. The Westside Market is a unique Cleveland asset. It had organic strengths but changing demographics and a changing economic environment require a different management structure before it's too late. We know what needs to be done. Unfortunately with the current political establishment I don't see that happening.

Shaker Heights: Van Aken District Transit Oriented Development
^ Wow. All those rail lines sure would have been something. And with ready made rights of way it would seem a lot of the cost of building rail would have been accounted for. We could have had a mini version of Philadelphia's Main Line. I recently read an article on why it costs so much to construct a mile of rail in the US vs. other countries and red tape/regulations was by far the biggest reason. Progress doesn't come cheap in America.

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
Ok look SHW, l like you. You were nice to me that one time l stopped in to pick up a can of eggshell white. And you've been in your old place since, like forever and you don't know what you don't know. I get it. So l'm gonna help you out and save you some cash. If you're bound and determined to build one of those generic boxes here's what you do. First off, you don't need that fancy architectural firm. They'll charge you top dollar to give you what you want and besides, they'll probably be laughing at you behind your back and you don't want that, do ya? Then you call Skidmore Owings. They're in Chicago but it's not a long distance call anymore so that's cool. Now when you get 'em on the phone ask them if they have any of those knockoffs they used to sell us back in the day. They probably still have a few left over in the back room. It shouldn't cost much. Hell they might even give it to you just to free up some storage. So good luck. I know its hard when you don't know what you're doing but that's what we're here for. Later.

Love the glassy facade. That's it. Something similar to the Milwaukee building is MUCH better than the Okc box.
-
Cleveland: Flats East Bank
I for one hope it looks different. That design is about as generic as it gets. You're competing with other residential units in the urban core. A great location is not enough. An exciting design coupled with a great street presence could help ensure a full building.

No. Sorry, but that's not gonna work for me.
