  1. The Cle-Pitt relationships is more competitive rather than parasitic. The steel industries have existed basically for hundreds of years, and there's more than likely a competition to see who can keep their industries the strongest. Since Cle-Pitt have basically the same industries carried through rust-belt history, there is no need for eachother's imports or exports excluding things outside steel. Simply if Pittsburgh disappeared, Cleveland would just have more steel, and more of the rust belt history. Same goes with the other end.
  2. As a massive hockey junkie, seeing that Gordie Howe bridge actually under construction would grow my heart for hockey even more. Honoring one of the greats. Mr. Hockey.
  3. That just made it like two storeys taller... Cant wait to check it out when I drive down 77 today.

I get that alot... "Melk"... Are you from Cleveland? such a fateful word...
  5. Wow, UC is actually becoming a new downtown. I mean gentrification aside I think they manage to hold their own pretty well. Some really interesting architecture vert and low-rise, an insane health network, a prestigious university, and the walk-ability there just towers over most big cities. Public transportation just hit it on the bullseye here, rapids, health line down Euclid, and there's just access everywhere. Just a lot of things just made the perfect soup, and now it's ready to be served.

Well I just know that Andrew Carnegie was the steel monopoly. I don't say Carnugee, rather I say Carnigee, the right way to pronounce his name in history. Such an American name for someone of the Scotts.

Fargo is not a Great Lake accent, not even close enough, too rural.

    Because we're sophisticated...

We just say Cot instead of Caught. And being that this is American League Baseball Territory we tend to mix this sh*t up. We just cant help it it's just second nature. I sometimes catch myself before I say it, and I always want to say it right, but mind comes over matter in the circumstance and i just say Cot anyways.... I honestly cant explain it.

They're pronounced the same. Such as the Caught/Cot merger, you could either say normally "He Caught the ball," but shift prone regions may say "He Cot the ball". Subtle difference here. BUT if you're talking about a Cot, like "I'm lying out a Caught," it wouldn't make sense regardless... So Cot is just Cot, but Caught is now Cot, and its super weird, sometimes I look at myself like I'm a foreigner. We tend to use our nasal passages for language more often than most. If you wish to replicate this yourself, try flaring out your nostrils and open your nasal passage when you speak. And i'm not saying exaggerate yourself to sound like Leonard from Big Bang Theory.

I see most of you enjoyed the presentation. :D I had a difficult time convincing my class that we had accents, but they don't get it because they've never really had it pointed out to them. You may be surprised but younger generations have heavy accents. My English teacher had a very thick accent, but one thing about Cleveland is that we're very verbal with our nose. So we're nasal. Pronounce cot the normal way and then pinch your nose and say it again. Caught and Cot sound the exact same here. Its super weird. As I was researching this project I was pointing out my own Vowel Shifted accent and I was astonished. I proved to myself, that I had an accent. I was genuinely happy and weirded out at the same time. Real trouble goes to convincing a class of 28 + 1 to know that they have an accent similar to the Northern Cities Vowel Shift. I got a C on the project; not too happy about that because I put my heart and soul into this. It's well put together and I thought I'd friggin ace it, but I guess it wasn't up for the chase.
  12. Hah, didn't know potato quality was still a thing!

I did a google doc project a little while ago for school proving that languages in big cities across the Great Lakes Basin are evolving. We had to give a 20 minute presentation on a topic related to Language for our senior projects, and here's what I came up with. Hope you guys enjoy, if you have any questions regarding the topic or material, feel free to ask me. 14. A good example of what Mendo said: Goodrich was bought out by United Technologies 6 or 7 years ago after the Great Recession. They manufactured a variety of aerospace parts like landing gear for commercial and fighter applications. The plant shut down and was stripped to send the industry to a startup in Texas and Canada. Why would you move a full plant to Texas when you already have an established industry up in Cleveland... Shame for such a well paying job, my dad worked there and now he's stuck making bum pay. Sorry but a sellout doesn't guarantee growth. That same Goodrich plant stands vacant to this day. I don't see any growth happening in there...

It has less to do with population and more of where the money is.
  16. Regardless if its condos or not, THIS IS GREAT NEWS! Always good to rebuild our population base!
  17. It just looks spectacular! Just what we needed to close the gap between Rhodes and the rest of the world...
  18. Yeah Photobucket isn't so reliable anymore... Based on the slap upon the face they gave their users I don't think anyone should use their services. The complex looks great! Thanks for the conversion!
  19. Just so you guys know, please stop using Photobucket. You must have a premium account to view third party photos, like the ones jws just posted. Please use Imgur or something else that can be universally seen. Otherwise people who don't have premium accounts on Photobucket just see blank photo spaces on the page like I do. Also Photobucket isn' really forgiving either. They screwed everyone over who had photo libraries on their website, so people had to pay premiums to access their photos again. Shady stuff. Could somebody please re-up those photos so I can see them?
  20. but the gladiators are arena football...
  21. thanks for painting such a gruesome picture in my head?...
  22. As a college student I have been working on a short project to find out if we could use some sort of alternative energy sources in Cleveland. Taking an example from the wind farm, freshwater applications are always options, but freshwater structures must be placed under constant care. I have come up with a very conceptual plan to place Oscillating Wave Columns (OWC) along Cleveland's breakwater boulders. Here is an OWC: And here is the theoretical plan to place OWCs spanning Cleveland's 5.15 mile breakwater: Red indicates the span we could place the OWCs, and the yellow dotted line indicates the ~3,000 ft submerged conduit to a power substation commonly known as "The Whale Building" conveniently placed next to Burke Lakefront Airport and breakwater. Cleveland has the waves for these, and they can be more reliable than most other types of turbines. Using an equation, we can judge the power we can output from a single wave in average conditions with waves 5-8 feet high roughly 2.5 meters and a wave period of around 3-4 seconds. Disregard the approximate equation which is for saltwater applications, because saltwater is more dense than freshwater. Calculating through, we get around 10.47 kW/hr per wave cycle. Quite substantial for a lake the size of Lake Erie. Let me know what you guys think. Update on last post: I'm still working on the tower, mostly the windows for it to actually look like a building, they're a huge pain in my backside. I'll show you guys the finished product very soon. I've decided to name it pinnacle because the roof isn't so sharp, rather it's half conical but not so aggressive.
  23. Next meeting when they answer public questions, you should probably ask if they have already come up with a consensus.
  24. its so poorly maintained, there's bent frames, panels just lying on the ground... surprised somebody wouldn't have fixed it.
  25. So i was driving past university circle today which i have never really done, but there's a solar farm right next to the rapid station on Euclid. How long has that been there, is it in operation by the RTA, and why does it look so poorly maintained?
