  1. I've never seen boston before, I almost feel like I can say I have now. Very nice row houses and I love the block after block of homes, no parking lots! I started reading "The Life and Death of Great American Cities" a little while ago (I need to pick back up on it been busy), she mentions South Bend a lot and its nice to see what the heck she is talking about now.
  2. Thank you for not blocking them. Assuming that everyone on the board will not be voting for him is a bad assumption. I'm still not certain who I am voting for.
  3. I think David just volunteered himself as a new moderator of a social/political/philisophical/economic forum. :-D
  4. Awesome picture. How far away is Chicago from here?
  5. I'm really excited for this project, especially after watching that video. haha.

uhmmm, why is there a picture of the Empire State building on the back of that? Also, does someone hold the rites to the name UrbanOhio?
  8. I hate when people state their opinion as fact. And if you're going to state your opinion on matters that are more complicated than "I like the color red," then you really should say what information caused you to form your opinion. I think you should call him and ask him what gives. Brian O'Neill can be reached at [email protected] or 412-263-1947. First published on September 7, 2008 at 12:00 am

I just moved to college hill in cincinnati and now I take the bus to and from work. I've been doing it for the past two weeks and I love it!
  14. Hardy har har... Aww, who am I kidding anyway... I thought the same thing. But perhaps the stadium had much more temporary seating. I came accross an old Enquirer artical the other day and they said something about the Cincinnati Olympic Stadium having a temporary capacity of like 85,000 and after the games it would have gone down to a capacity of like 15,000? I can't remember the exact numbers but it was a signficant difference.

Ya, I can't get over just how many people there are on that island! When I got off the train at Grand Central (the one under Madison Square Gardens) I swear the amount of people I had ever seen in my life doubled at that very moment!
  16. No, I would not want this to happen, but I would hope to use existing venues (ex. Nationwide, Shottensteins, Ohio Expo Center, Paul Brown, etc.)
  17. I kind of see the olypmics here in Ohio as being a sort of Carrot and Stick to perhaps help improve our cities. A lot of what we seem to be saying right now is that as we stand today, we cannot do it. But I feel we have the potential, especially if we play our cards right. Maybe it should be like, "let's do this, this, and this, to move towards this possibility of hosting an international event. To do that we should do this..." Set some goals that will move us in the right direction. Make a plan and hope for the best. Even if we don't win the Olympic bid, we would still have moved our cities forward to a better place. Perhaps we could start by hosting a Dem/Rep National Convention, and then move on to hosting the Pan/American Games or something to that degree.
  18. As gotribe pointed out, yes they do. U Chi, NW, Fire's stadium, NIU, UIUC for sure. Throw in MKE, Madison, even South Bend, you have it covered. Not to mention a handful of minor league size ballparks and probably a dozen or so arenas. Look at how many facilities exist in NEO and you know for sure they have at least double that. Now high speed rail may change somethings to our advantage! Cheaper hotels in CLE and you can be in Chicago in 1.5 hrs! I was just at the Chicago2016 website. They seem to be holding a lot of the preliminaries in Chicago. I think the University of Minnasota was the furthest venue I could find. Also, when I lived in Georgia in 1993, my mother worked at a hotel in Athens, about an hour from Atlanta, and they were already booked for the Olympic Games in 1996.
  19. Do they really have the capacity in the immediate Chicago area to support all of the soccer prelims??? I know in China they are using 7 stadiums for soccer, all with capacities over 33,000. I could definately see us being used for Soccer Preliminaries. In Atlanta, they were all over the place. Tennessee, Flroida, Alabama, DC. If that was the case then, I can see it possibly being the case in 2016. I can see Columbus being used for that too seing as though it has the first Soccer Specific Stadium in the Country. But then again, I haven't heard anything about that and I imagine we would have by now.
  20. I'm hoping it will be back by then.
  21. I could see Toledo getting an event, but we should already know if they do or not. I believe for the bid, they already have that kind of thing figured out.
  22. I've been wondering the same thing
  23. The Atalnta Games hosted games as far away as Washington DC and Miami FL.
  24. So we can revisit this for the 2028 games then? Maybe having the infrastructure by then? Where can one find the report for the Cincinnati bid? Any idea? I think I was in High School in Columbus when all that went down. Another question, let's say that we could handle the olympics, would you even want them?
