Columbus hosting the Olympics? Is it possible?
You mean SlipperyFish, if you are going to tear me down, atleast get the name right. I figured the Olympics could be a way to boost things in the long term for all of Ohio. Not all the events would take place in Columbus. I was thinking a lot of the water events such as kyakiing, the triathalon could take place near or around Kelly's Island, some other things such as archery, equestrian, and mountain biking events in the Athens area.

Columbus hosting the Olympics? Is it possible?
I imagine raising the field of Ohio Stadium back to it's original height (with non-permanant platforms of some sort) when it had the track before the renoavation. What do you mean by long term infrastructure choices that wouldn't necessarily benefit us in the long run. I think of rail when I think of getting the olympics. What did you have in mind? Did Cleveland make a bid for the Olympics or did you mean Cincinnati?

Columbus hosting the Olympics? Is it possible?
:bump: Given the current happenings in Beijing, I thought I would bring this up again. I was doing a bit of preliminary research on my lunch break and found a few documents that would help me to understand the City Bid process. http://video.olympic.org/http/cap_2016_uk.pdf Also, according to Wikipedia for the 2020 Olympics games, Birmingham, AL, Minneapolis, MN, and Bostan, MA are all submitting bids. I think we could compete, atleast with Birmingham and Minneapolis, Boston ehh... I'll be optomistic and say we can beat them too. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_Summer_Olympics Of course, this will all be contingent upon whether or not Chicago will win the bid for 2016. Personally, I think it will be going to Rio, atleast I hope it is.

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
^What exactly is this bill? Are there multiple bills present in congress that effect amtrack and rail at the moment? Is this the big one? I'm having a hard time following all the politics.

mike tyson's abandoned ohio mansion
I would expect it to be dusty. Looks pretty clean for it not being occupied for ten plus years. Terrible decor by the way.

Columbus
I enjoy the picture of the Palace Theater. Too bad the state house isn't lit up blue like Nationwide 1 or that picture really would look like an american flag.

Columbus: Hotels, Conventions and Tourism News & Info
Agreed, but how do you get a private business to open or build a hotel? And why aren't they already expanding the Hyatt? I would think that us losing the RNC would spure them on to build. If that hasn't gotten them to build it already, then what will?

Columbus: Downtown Developments and News
Hey, d.t workers need donuts and coffee in the morning. What we need is a Panda Express down there. That new Beijing beef is off the chain. I wouldn't mind having a donut shop near me. You can only have so many bagels for breakfast in a month.

Amtrak & Federal: Passenger Rail News
OK slightly off topic here but CNN or FoxNews, can't remember who, had a video showing thousands in California mooning amtrack trains as they go by. Aparantly it is an anual event. What is this all about, anyone know? I was thinking when I first saw it was a political protest against Amtrack.

Big Darby Accord Region: Developments and News
Board compares Big Darby Accord past, future Wednesday, July 2, 2008 By CATHY WOGAN, ThisWeek Staff Writer Maps for a general land-use plan and a conservation strategy allowed members of the Hilliard Board of Education to look at the past and to get a glimpse into the future of the Big Darby Accord. Assistant Superintendent Tim Hamilton wanted to share with the board members during a June retreat the growth pockets for interest areas in Hilliard. The Hilliard City School District, he said, is in the upper one-third of the region and includes Bradley High School. Benjamin Weiner, a planner with the Franklin County Economic Development & Planning Department, and Adrienne Joly, who works in long-range planning with the city of Columbus' planning division, shared information about the Big Darby Accord with the board, the district's three high school principals and a community member. City or Suburb
I was raised in the 'burbs' and have been living in small towns (Athens and Oxford) for the past seven years. I am moving to Cincinnati in a month though!
