Amtrak & Federal: Passenger Rail News
So, will this help or hurt our interests in seeing Amtrack expand. I mean, at first glance, I would think it would not help, but then maybe it could help?

The Dumb Joke/Funny Story Thread
Neither was the Challenger exploding but it sure led to some good jokes. Black humor's often a way of coping. The only major disaster/tragedy I can think of that never led to jokes was 9/11. (Michael Moore doesn't count as he's not "funny on purpose"). INteresting you say that because two hours after this post I was playing Apples to Apples with friends. My green card was the word "Lucky". With that people had to give me their red cards (they have a noun) that would go along with the adjective and the very first card I turn over was "Challenger Explosion". I was laughing so hard I couldn't read the rest. I felt so guilty, but it was just so ironic.

Need a place in Cincinnati
Well hello there. As some of you know, I was studying architecture at Miami and decided to take some time off. I have been working for a Cincinnati design firm since January and have been living in Oxford since then. Come end of July, my lease will be up. Also, my firm is extending my employment with them for another year. My time with them was originally supposed to end in June but I needed more time off from school. Anyway! I am really excited at the possibility of moving to Cincinnati. I would prefer a place that is close to the downtown and easily accessable by public transit and where the community is walkable. Also, some place inexpensive would be great as well. If you know of any place, please let me know! Thank you!

Amtrak & Federal: Passenger Rail News
YES! I have been to Europe and that just re-enforced my desires to have high speed rail here. I would be happy with conventional rail as well. I'll take what I can get when it comes to rail service. I road (or have ridden on) :? trains in France and Italy. TGV in France and some other low speed line in Italy. The only thing annoying about the train in Italy was that it stopped at every city on the line. Ugg.

Amtrak & Federal: Passenger Rail News
I agree with Blue Line. I think we need to start out on a strong note. We are already behind the rest of the industrialized world. One, I really don't think anyone would ride the trains if the speeds were only nearing 100 mph tops. People would probably much rather drive. I just don't think you would have much of a selling point if you just started out slow. Also, if we started out with just the slow trains at a cost of 35 billion dollars and people actually did ride them and then they desired to expand to faster trains at a cost of 70 billion dollars, then we would have spent 105 billion dollars, when we probably could have just spent 70 billion dollars.

Origin of your Screen Name?
When I discovered this website and forum, I had just gotten back from a Missions trip to Southern France, where I was given the nickname SlipperyFish. I had just finished swimming near the l'Opera Plage in the French Revierra when one of the guys in my group said, "Jeremy, you are one SlipperyFish." and the name stuck.

Columbus: Skyline at Dusk
nevermind, I figured it out. But I guess the main reason why I did that was because I know you do this more or less professionally and I don't won't to infringe on copyright. So, I have it as my desktop background unless you say otherwise. Thanks

Columbus: Skyline at Dusk
Love these pictures. I was there that weekend and I have been meaning to ask; what is with all the buildings being lit up pink? I thought breast cancer awereness was in October.

Living and Working Near Mass Transit
^I have family that lives in Salt Lake. My uncle was telling me that when they first went to build the line, nobody wanted to do it. When it was finally built, it was so popular, they had to expand the routs. My Uncle used it everday when he worked downtown.

The Banks GROUNDBREAKING! ... Yes folks, hell has frozen over...
Was that what that was? I saw the tent being set up when I went for a jog around six this evening. I thought it had something to do with the game. If I would have known it was the ground breaking, I would have stuck around. Glad to see it finally taking shape.

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
OK, apparently my senator is Gary Cates and he has his Civil Engineering Degree from Virginia Tech. Is this a good thing or a bad thing, I don't know. On the up side though, he is on the Ways and Means and Economic Development Committee.

Who would be my Senator? I live (rent) in Oxford, work in Cincinnati, but consider Columbus home. So, uhmmm, who's my Senator in Oxford?

Anyone think of running for office?
Man, I hate it when I read a thread and think it something that happened within that past two days and then find out it is more than a year old. Geesh. Maybe some day in way down the line of my life I will run for office. My sister said I should and I also day dream about what I would do if I had that kind of power. But then again, politics, it seriously does not sound like any fun, too much in the way of back stabbing, lying, cheeting steeling. Not saying that all politicians are like that, but perhaps they are. Also, any politicians on this board? I would absolutely die if I found out that Mayor Coleman was on this site.

How does Las Vegas do it?
I know first hand the effects of that last statement made by MyTwoSense. One of our projects have been put on hold and it was a HUGE project. I'm lucky I still have a job. I don't see how we can look to Vegas in any way shape or form as a model to look up to or strive to be. Vegas is in a legue of its own. It's main draw is the gambling and entertainment industry. It also has a very beautiful climate and the geography is breath taking. These are things that Ohio does not have an abundance of. Even if you tried to be as glitzy and glamerous as Vegas, our climate would not allow success. With the housing market, yes, everyone is effected by it, but Vegas even more so because of poor planning and business practices. (Actually, I think they just grew too quick, I dunno) I went to Vegas about a month ago. The only thing that I liked about the city was the climate and geography and that was it. The city is too dependant on cars, there are far too many strip malls, the density is terrible, and I really didn't enjoy all the smut and numerous propositions for sex. What happens in Vegas should stay in Vegas.

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
I cannot watch this video as my work does not allow it because of bandwidth issues. If it is what I think it is, and I think it is, then you have to realize that there was a jet flying along side the train getting video coverage of it. The loud noise you hear is probably that of the jet flying over the fixed location camera. I certainly hope that trains aren't that loud, if they are, we have one heck of a fight to put up to get something like this built.
