Hollywood name drops Cincinnati
So the Semester is drawing to an end and I don't have all thout much to do so I decided to finally start watching Jericho. OK, not the best show in the world but I am board. There is one character who seems to know an aweful lot about nuclear fallout and he's the new guy in town. hmmmmmm. <spoiler> seems this guy is part of government conspiracy to change the world by nuking the US. Government turning against their own people kinda thing. So anyway, before they go to leave to blow up various cities within the country they recieve there assignments. The before mentioned character was handed his assigned target and in clear black and white was the great city of Columbus, OH. My beloved city was to be the target of a Nuclear Terrorist Attack! Gasp! Anyway, I just thought I would share that. BTW, the guy kinda defected and decided not to nuke Columbus and instead decided to move his family to Jericho, KS.

Columbus: Local Media News & Discussion
I'm sorry you were at work during the superbowl. I had to work in the studio where we had access to the game, so I kinda know how you feel. I'm really impressed that your co-workers stopped what they were doing to watch the promo. Must mean it works! If you don't mind my asking, what kind of work do you do or what kind of atmosphere is it? I just love those moments where everyone just stops what they are doing and are all in tune to the same thing. ^^KingFish, this is a thread about Channel 10, not Channel 4. Just so ya know.

Columbus: Local Media News & Discussion
This is the most amazing promotional add I have ever seen for a New Station. I have this video posted on my Facebook Profile and I can't stop watching it! I love the band and I love the flyovers with Chopper 10 and the skyline in the background. The band is Alamoth Lane, according to there website and my corispondance with Channel 10, they will be comming out with a full legnth music video that I can only hope incorporates the Columbus Urban Area. The band is already shown on top of the Studios of 10tv in this video. Enjoy!

John Glenn Columbus International Airport
My aunt bought a house a while ago (when I was in high school) near the Buckeye Yards. She was close enough to hear the cars slam together as they put them together and took them apart but far enough away to where she found the noise rather soothing. I guess in a way, I kind of agreed. It is scary though, that in the event that they would need to evacuate it would take forever as the roads back there are sooo long and winding and there is like only two ways in and out of the neighborhood.

Columbus: Restaurant News & Info
SlipperyFish replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentI passed that on the monday that I mentioned before. I was really excited to see it because I felt that was the only place I was dressed for, but it was closed and it didn't look like it had been open earlier that day. :-(

John Glenn Columbus International Airport
The problem isn't that the planned expansion will increase the amount of property the airport owns, rather the relocated runway will put the new approach path over several existing homes. The relocated path would and the homes' proximity to the runway would create an environment unsuitable for living. I believe the homes in question lie directly east of the airport. When it comes to these situations, I really think people need to understand the risk of building near an airport. If you don't want planes to fly over your home or are concerned about all the traffic and noise, then don't build near the airport. I mean, it is one thing if you built your home somehwere in the trainquil country side and then suddenly they build an airport, but I assume the airport was built and established before there were many homes in the area.

Cleveland Fox8 reporter attacked by cat
This was entertaining. I love how they had a four minute follow up to the story the next day. I like how she imediately thought about the fact that it would be up on YouTube instantly. She said she wasn't crying, but instead was laughing, I can believe that. Given the fact that she was on TV she was probably trying to contain herself, came off as crying possibly. haha. Anyway, I am not a cat fan either, somebody mentioned it before, they have too much of an atitude.

Columbus: Restaurant News & Info
SlipperyFish replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentI wandered into that area after going to the multi-modial transit hub charrette. I thought they would have smaller, casual restaurants. I was rather disapointed because I wasn't dressed properly, and I felt awkward going into all the places alone. I finally settled at MoJoe's Cafe on the Cap, it was still expensive. Yikes!

Columbus: Downtown: Arena District Developments and News
SlipperyFish replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & Constructionacctually, I believe all those are garages and one of them, I believe the one on the far left is going to be covered soon by something. There seems to be some construction. Now if you are talking about the Nationwide Towers and The William Green Building which are acctually on High St, why would you want to cover those up?

Columbus: Downtown: Arena District Developments and News
SlipperyFish replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionHey all, I finally was able to make it home to snap some new shots of the tower. I think they have only one more floor to complete before it is finished. How exciting. I am only bummed out because I picked the worst day ever to take the pictures. I thought about going on Sunday when it was BEAUTIFUL out but I heard that Monday was supposed to be just as beautiful. So I stuck with my original plan to meet my aunt downtown for lunch and then take pictures afterward. I was disapointed the whole day. But anyway, these are just to show the progress, which I am really happy with.

Columbus TOD Design Competition
I agree with the Q&A, I thought it should have been a lot longer. There were soooooooo many questions that I had and didn't get to ask. I was surprised though to see that not many people were asking questions. I am weary about having the site located in the arena district because I think it is too compact of an area and there are already enough attractions down there to bring people to that area. I was excited when one of the presenters there had mentioned that the Whittear Penn. could be a possible site. I like that idea because it is an area that needs to be further developed (or just plain developed) and it is hard to right now because of the contamination on the site as well as the fact that it is located on the flood plain. Perhaps because it will be a public building and not residential, the need for extensive contamination clean-up will not be as extensive and therefor not as expensive to develope? Also, there is plenty of room to grow and there are already tracks in place there. I got really excited when they said that Ohio was the bridge between the Mid-West and the East when it comes to pasanger rail lines and the fact that the current Ohio Adiministration (ODOT and the Governor) seems interested in the development of passanger rail.

Columbus TOD Design Competition
Well, I went to the event. Didn't meet very many people afterward unfortunately because soooo many people left too quickly. I had a good time. It wasn't quite what I expected it to be, but it was great to finally meet some people or be in the same room as others who care about Columbus the way I do! Things are looking up for mass transit, even intercity rail. I hope the momentum for all this does pick up. Well, I am sitting at the MoJoe cafe on the High St. Cap, my check is now paid for and now I am gone. More later I think. Oh, did anyone else go? What did you think?

From the sounds of it, I know we will be disapointed. Nothing good ever comes out of comprimises and a tight budget.

Columbus: Restaurant News & Info
SlipperyFish replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentThis is a sad day. I think they are pulling out too soon. They want to discuss redevelopment issues only after they close? Perhaps if they would have discussed such a thing a couple of years ago, there would have been more development in the area and more construction workers eating there and eventually more residents.
