  1. yep! here we go....found it! http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,11015.0.html
  2. I've posted on this subject before......
  3. Columbus now has more coverage of 3D Buildings in Google Earth. I noticed this as I was modeling the New Main St Bridge.

As I was viewing my model of the New Main Street Bridge, I found that Downtown Columbus is pretty much completely modeled by Google Earth. It kind of takes the fun out of me drawing all my buildings from scratch but maybe this way I will get them all done faster! Have a look.

I've been killing time until school starts by creating landmark buildings of Columbus in Sketch Up. So far eleven of my 12 models have been selected for use on Google Earth. Here is an image. Capitol Square Complex was just finished tonight and has yet to be added to Google Earth. It is awaiting review. Check it out and have fun. I've been taking buildings that I like and placing them in and around Columbus to see what things could have been like, or could be like. It's fun. My name on Google is J.Remy.Mill.R. I did not do COSI, The Verne Riffe Center, The LeVeque Tower, The Ohio Courts Building or the State House. All other buildings are mine.
  6. PS c-dub, your avatar is really creeping me out.
  7. ^ that rendering is just a conceptual idea. The final hotel will be designed by HOK and Moody Nolan. It will most likely look completely different from what you are seeing here.
  8. The 1960's plan for Franklinton, I like the idea of the little stream there but that cannot happen today because of the tracks that are in the area. It would have been cool though to do something like that and have the moat like they have in, is it Austin, TX? I dunno. I like the idea anyway.
  9. here is there website. I think it is pretty cool. http://eleventimessquare.com/
  10. That pictures is beautiful!
  11. They better paint that canopy green as they have it in the rendering!
  12. Thanks for posting this. Some of these I actually remember reading in the paper at there times. The tree lined E. Broad St. I was really eager to see done and from what I read at the time, it seemed like a done deal. I have come to learn since then though to never get my hopes up. There have been so many times though that things seem to be a done deal but never come to fruition, which I find to be very frustrating. I never knew about the Russian statue. I love it. Even if it was 'hideous' it still would have created some discourse on public art, created a great public park downtown. I almost want to liken it to Central Park of New York. Shame it was not built. Columbus once again dropped the ball on that one. I think I would have rather had this park than the one they are currently building now. I guess I will just have to settle for less than the best as I should be accustomed to by now when it comes to all things Columbus. I honestly don't know what people were thinking when they decided NOT to build the serpent mound sculpture over the broad street bridge. Again, great public art work. It would have been something people may actually want to see when visiting Columbus. Maybe it is not dead yet. Perhaps it can still be incorporated with a pedestrian bridge over the Scioto connecting the Arena District to Franklinton. Maybe there wouldn't be such a liability with no cars. I remember Proposition 1 back in 1997. I really still am sad that Crew Stadium was built so far from Downtown. I would have much rather preferred it be built where it was originally proposed. THANK GOD that building behind the LeVeque was never built! Hideous! But then again, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it if it were built it may have created interesting public discourse.
  13. ^Maybe the 'OPEN' sign on top will do the trick.

What do you mean by upright?
  15. I am not a fan of a lot of small stops because it really will prolong the duration of the trip. It would be like hitting all the traffic lights on Colerain Ave. It would be better to take the highway. I also experienced a train ride with frequent stops when I went from Nice, France to Riomaggiore, Italy. Going from the TGV to that little train was quite a shocker. Speaking at least for me, the small town stops do little or nothing psycholocgically to make the ride feel slower (I actually think they make the ride feel more interesting for some reason). What makes the ride feel slower (and actually does make it slower) is sitting for 30 minutes waiting for a freight train to clear the way, or actually backing on to a side track to let another train pass.

Thanks everyone for your input. I too like the .com as the way to dot the 'i'. May Day, perhaps these are better ways to represent 'ohio'? I like 2, 3, and 5 the most. Also, in red is a little logo. The last one I effectionately refer to as 'urby' or 'urbo' but i can't decide which.
  19. Wow, thanks for the pictures. I would love to spend a day at the park. Makes me really want to go back to NYC.
  20. Holy Crap! I never knew such a place existed in Columbus! I love it. I think a movie could be filmed here.

This is long since been done and said but I was bored today and felt somewhat inspired so I am submitting an other idea. It is a work in progress but I really like it. I want to work on some variations, play with the color, the dimension and other effects, but right now my illustrator capabilities are somewhat limited. Any ideas on how to better dot the 'i'?
