Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
I'm glad we have a Mayor that knows to not put all his eggs in one basket. Downtown will be fine, it was fine from 96-98 and will be fine now.

He's going to get state funding imo, it all just depends on how much, especially with the Bengals looming.

I know Haslam has a lot of money to waste but tbh, I felt that once those detailed renderings were released his mind was made up. He sat down with Mayor Bibb afterwards to save face and give off the impression that "we tried our hardest, and exhausted every option." I wouldn't be surprised if what Mayor Bibb said was true, Haslam presented his wish list for a stadium early on with no dome and changed his mind at a much later date because he knows Cleveland wouldn't be able to counter properly in time.

”The city plans to install and own Loos in three locations: Canal Basin Park in the Flats, Perk Plaza on East 12th Street and the Virgil E. Brown Neighborhood Family Services Center on Payne Avenue." Not sure I agree with the placements. These seem like locations that get a lot of homeless activity and they are trying to relieve that issue. I'd rather them place it by the Fountain of Eternal Life (A lot of programming and visitors), Down at Voinovich Park (For the same reasons), the East Bank of the Flats close to the boardwalk.

There is an entire video I watched on why America lacks behind places like Japan in available public restrooms. It mainly comes down to cultural/societal differences. Funny enough the bathroom shown in this article looks like the one she shows in the video. Why “Great” American Cities Have a Toilet Problem...

What was the original name of East 105th street before we went to the numeric system? Lets just go with that name.

Yeah I hate how long this name is, I wish they would just drop the "Opportunity Corridor" moniker.

I actually like this plan. I do appreciate how the city this time around though included waterfront features like a beach etc. but this plan is pretty solid, the ferry terminal is interesting though especially since I would love a ferry to go from Cleveland to Sandusky. Overall I prefer the current vision over this one though.

Justin Bibb today, Justin Bibb tomorrow, Justin Bibb FOREVER! We can't take any chances on someone new lol. I'm JK, I predict he has his sights set on at least the state level so we'd probably get one more term out of him.

One thing that I feel makes the Shoreway Bridge redundant in at certain points is its relatively close proximity to the Detroit Superior bridge. For example, the westbound West 28th street exit is pointless due to the Detroit Superior bridge dropping you off at basically the same area. I wouldn't even mind the West 28th Street on ramp being nixed and highway traffic using the DS bridge to get on the highway off of Superior Avenue. I wish the bridge could all be formatted into a boulevard with one of the three lanes in either direction being converted into a protected bike lane that continues onto the West Shoreway Blvd. After this project is completed the Shoreway to the west is (technically) a boulevard and now it will be a boulevard to the east as well so this just makes sense to me.

Idk if people just have PTSD from past projects fizzling out or never even been close to fruition but I'm surprised at the reaction this news has been received on here.

This makes me even more excited for the announcement. Look I'm just going to say it, I'm 31 years old, Justin Bibb has been the best Mayor I've seen in Cleveland and for how much he has accomplished. Combine that with the innovative thinking and effort he has shown to get projects moving in only 3 years of being that Mayors in Cleveland would've only DREAMED to accomplish for their entire term is commendable. Is he perfect? No. No mayor is perfect but he has been about action and not just words, something that is very rare in this city. If he can even get 50% of this entire project built he would have done what no other mayor could accomplish, bring a lakefront vision to reality. This funding, while not flashy shows how serious he is about this vision along with the riverfront project.

If this is a $60 million investment how much is left to be covered? He mentioned the land bridge, Multimodal center and freeway re-configuration.

I think the apartments facing directly towards the planned boardwalk should have at least had a coffee shop and or small restaurant to allow patrons to enjoy the view.

Cleveland: Retail News
I'm going to be honest about my travel tendencies, and for this example I will use Chicago. A lot of times when I travel, and I travel to Chicago a lot due to family, I look for stores and experiences that I can't get at home. When it comes to food, I tend to go to local shops because I like eating the signature foods that the city I am in is known for so I go to Portillo's for an Italian Beef (better than a Philly Cheesesteak to me but that's a different argument). BUT when it comes to traditional retail (Clothing etc.), I tend to visit areas in Chicago that contain experiences and stores that I can't get in Cleveland. Since I am there for only a couple of days I gravitate towards national retailers so I visit the Fashion Outlets mall by O'Hare, going to the Magnificent Mile, which is an experience in itself, etc. A lot of people I know do the same thing, people I know who visited Atlanta from Cleveland, including me go to Lenox because of the name and aura of it. So I won't say that people travel to cities and look for local shops over national retailers because the name recognition alone is a draw. I really feel that Dan Gilbert has dropped the ball at Tower City, he easily could have turned the bottom floor into a space for outlet stores due to its larger floorplates. Even the Prospect storefronts could be offered to retailers for their outlets by offering them free or subsidized rents, also close the street to cars and allow only buses and bikes. When I visited the fashion outlets mall in Chicago, it contained non high end stores on the first floor with majority being national retailers, and high end on the second, I felt that Cleveland could mimic it in tower city or even the Galleria. If Tower City doesn't want to be the outlet mall, the Galleria which has struggled FAR WORSE should be giving away storefronts. The problem is I feel, PERSONALLY that a lot storefront owners feel that they don't have to "lower their standards" by subsidizing rents, to me they feel if Chicago etc. can do it why can't we. I view it as a similar mentality of RTA leadership saying "Cleveland deserves world class heavy rail" in the 80s when they purchased the current Red Line cars. In reality Cleveland had rapidly declining ridership and a fragmented system and was far behind their peer cities in transit, but due to pride and nostalgia of what Cleveland used to be they made an unnecessary and stubborn decision. They didn't live in reality, they couldn't swallow their pride that Cleveland isn't on the level of those cities.

Cleveland: Retail News
I don't use delivery services because of the added premium to use them. The prices are always higher than the actual business prices PLUS you have to pay for the "fees". I don't care about convenience that much. Couple that with food being cold/potentially eaten or touched before it arrives and I am turned off by it.

Exactly, I never understood it. Euclid has been stable for years now while the rest of Downtown underperforms.

East Cleveland News (Non-Development)
Brandon King got indicted on charges of theft in office. At what point does East Cleveland throw in the towel and just merge? There is too much greed and power struggle in a city that has done nothing but continuously mess up.
