Cleveland: Downtown: Huntington Bank Field
After going to a Guardians game in Arlington, I can confirm that the surrounding area is a dump. No major development as a result of either stadium outside of the couple hotels and restaurants abutting the domes was present, and the sea of parking was a confusing, overpriced mess. It honestly made me think of what it would be like if a stadium was just plopped where the Randall Park Mall used to be. I'm all for a dome and think that any major renovating the current stadium is essentially lipstick on a pig. I also remain optimistic it can somehow be done in Cleveland Proper. Above all though, I firmly agree that arguing that a "pro" of Brook Park is a "Disney"-like village that may come with it is just unrealistic thinking.

I'm pretty sure the last "public input" survey I got from the Browns was asking my opinion of RC Cola as the team's soda sponsor and asking if I knew the pizza sponsor of the Browns. I agree that while the Haslam's often say their actions are based on "what the fans want", I have rarely seen evidence of that outreach ever being done. Whatever focus groups they have must be quite the secret group of pumpkin heads and macho men.

I just can't see a city like Brook Park, a city that struggles to fill a pothole, being able to take on this kind of infrastructure. Very curious to see if any sort of land swap occurs if this actually becomes the site.

Without any engineering background whatsoever, I would guess that side could handle between 4 and 8 mainline jets, but that the hardstand walkways would have to be demolished and replaced by jet bridges. I question how worthwhile that kind of demo/reno would be. Even though D is by far the most up to date concourse of the 4 that CLE has, it'll be 30 years old sooner than later. It also would continue to have major faults...the worst being the lack of main terminal connector. Fortunately, United is on the hook for its debt the next several years, unless those Frontier rumors above are true and eventually consummated.

If memory serves, it's not as much Airbus vs Boeing, as much as it would be requiring taking every other jet bridge (and jet bridge gate door) out to retrofit the jet bridge side in order to have wingspan clearance for a mainline jet. As for the other side, the hardstand side would need a complete overhaul.

Serious question... what would the benefits of a 100% privately funded stadium be for the Haslams? Is it less red tape? More revenue earned/retained? Etc.? Or would it essentially be giving up "free money" in their eyes to not go after public funds?

Interesting that they didn't mention where the team would play if they opt to renovate the current stadium. Another reason I continue to think that that's the least likely option, even behind other Cleveland sites that they claim aren't under consideration.

I'm still skeptical that the ONLY two options are renovating the current stadium or a dome in Brook Park. Maybe it's wishful thinking on my part, but I remain optimistic that a dome in Cleveland Proper option surfaces, even if the PD article says otherwise.

Those in-fill RTA stations in the renderings would also be nice for Guardians games. I would love if something like this proposal came to fruition! It could really activate that area of downtown, while still allowing for tailgating and restaurant visits ahead of the game in the center of downtown. And the 3-Line Rapid access would be amazing too!

Cleveland: Hotel Development
I was just about to ask...is anyone with the mock-up skills that I don't have whatsoever able to create a model of what a re-skinned Justice Center hotel would look like? That location was what came to my mind too.

https://www.crainscleveland.com/manufacturing/great-lakes-brewing-co-continues-weigh-options-next-production-facility Not much new, but here's the Crains take on the new location options for GLBC. It mentions that parking is one of the factors that appeals to the CEO with regards to the Avon option, along with being unsure of how the Scranton Peninsula option would fit with the housing developments going on over there.

I'd be all in favor of that Post Office area idea, especially if the USPS was already leasing auxiliary space in Parma. Heck, the Haslam's could even sell the USPS the Brook Park land. A post office distribution center definitely seems to gel with that area more than a stadium.

It has definitely become disheartening to see. While I get the need to independently verify, if every news outlet and several other papers, business journals, and even the AP are reporting a story, it's strange to me why the PD is either this late to the party, or are actively avoiding the story.

Very odd to me that not only has The Plain Dealer NOT reported on it, they also deleted the only article that referenced it, which was a Hey Terry column: https://www.cleveland.com/browns/2024/02/whats-with-haslams-new-land-deal-did-browns-make-a-mistake-right-before-playoffs-hey-terry.html Wonder why

Any insight on the "various additional sites" comments within the Browns' official statement?

Cleveland: Downtown: Huntington Bank Field
I think this whole sequence of events is leading up to what many of us thought several months ago....that regardless of final location, that the current stadium's renovation pricetag is too steep to make financial sense, all to continue being left with an older (relative to other markets) open-air stadium that's taking up valuable lakefront real estate. I think (or at least hope) that other Cleveland proper locations are being considered.

Cleveland: Downtown: Huntington Bank Field
Very silly question, but if this were to happen, would another land swap deal/annexation be a consideration? Or would this essentially be the Browns saying they want out of Cleveland proper? I also find it hard to believe Brook Park would be able to have stronger financial muscles than Cleveland.

Roof aside, does anyone know the extent of how poor the condition of the stadium is? All I've ever heard (anecdotally) over the years is that the stadium was a rush job in order for the team to be reactivated by 1999, and that in addition to the visible rust and concrete deterioration, that the "guts" of the building's infrastructure are in rough shape as well. I'm genuinely curious about if the studies they have been doing behind the scenes will reflect 1. the extent of the renovations needed for both the aesthetics and the infrastructure of the stadium, and 2. if the aesthetic renovations are worth doing if the condition of the stadium infrastructure is poor.
