Columbus: Clintonville Developments and News
17thState replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI don't think that's necessary, it's easy enough to get around as it is. No need to induce more traffic.

Columbus: Weinland Park Developments and News
17thState replied to JohnOSU99's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI thought the same thing, these look like garbage. I had much higher hopes as the homes they put in seem really nice. Maybe they were were trying to fit in with the cheap campus area apartments that start just a few blocks north. Should have added just a bit more stucco though if that was the plan.

17thState replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThanks for sharing, this is great. I particularly like the braille and "frickin big house" because seriously that place is huge, 9k+ sq ft!

Columbus: Clintonville Developments and News
17thState replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI think we're losing track of where this is. It's one of the most suburban parts of high street. It's within a 1/2 mile of a taco bell, raising canes, Arby's, wendy's, (all with drive throughs) 3 strip malls, and Graceland Shopping Center's ocean of parking. I love density and urban development too, but c'mon. Save the sign and I'm good.

17thState replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionWhoa, spoken like someone who's never eaten Chick-Fil-A.. I do hope they find a way to keep the neon sign. I understand it predates the teejayes.

Columbus: Downtown: Hilton Columbus Downtown Tower II
The most surprising part of this picture to me is that every car in the parking lot isn't white, black, or silver.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
I guess this puts me in the minority, but I like it. I think the stark black triangle is a a simple enough geometry to complement the existing geometric design, but also doesn't pretend to be part of it. I also think the black coloring works well and plays off the existing transparency and white shades. To me it looks cohesive without pretending it was all there from the start. Lastly, I've never really bought into the idea that the existing building is a record player. The plaza, maybe, but that's really it. I don't think it's a great shame to lose something you could only experience if you were using Google maps and you squinted a bit.

Columbus: Downtown: Lower.com Field / Astor Park
I'm not worried about the parking lot. It faces an elevated highway and a railroad tracks. It's the same reason I'm not concerned about painting the inside of the closets when we redo a room. But agree it'd be nice for the garage to have a nice facade (and not whatever half-baked silver curtain they threw on the convention center garage).

Dublin: Bridge Park / Bridge Street District Developments and News
17thState replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI can't think of any issues the commission would have with this. It seems like it'd be a a great addition.

Dublin: Bridge Park / Bridge Street District Developments and News
17thState replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThe ceiling heights seem a little low to me. I think it's exacerbated by how big the space is. Might just be the perspective in the pictures though.

Columbus: Franklinton Developments and News
I really like the colored glass, but the more I think about it I'm wondering how practical it would be to live with. Is your apartment going to feel like a strip club if you only get red colored light shining through, I think yellow light be even worse. I wonder if that will change at all before they finalize the design? Maybe break it up into smaller sections so you'd have more of a mix? I don't think a couple red windows would be bad to have, but I do think only red windows would be a kinda terrible.

Columbus: Franklinton Developments and News
Looks like there's a new proposal for an apartment tower in Franklinton at the southwest corner of Broad and Gift streets. The Columbus Underground article mentions 13 stories with a design inspired by the Dutch painter, Piet Mondrian. Can't say I've heard of him, but I dig the colored glass panels. https://www.columbusunderground.com/proposal-calls-for-apartment-tower-in-franklinton-bw1

17thState replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionNothing like updating a CVS so it's visually cohesive with an Aldi. Why bother.

Columbus: Italian Village Developments and News
17thState replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & Construction"ooof" was my actual, out loud, response to seeing those renders. This design is pretty trash, I just really dislike monolithic big boxes with a bland repeating design. This looks just like the Giant Eagle proposal in GV, but worse. Big boxes can be done well when they don't look like big boxes, for example this building from Jeffery Park actually has some visual interest and isn't terrible.

Columbus: Downtown: Convention Center / North Market Area Developments and News
17thState replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI also don't understand why it doesn't wrap around the other side of the garage or go one floor lower. I think part of the reason it looks so, so bad is it looks they stopped halfway through installing it. It's just not cohesive.

Columbus: Clintonville Developments and News
17thState replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI'd love to see Linden do better and the city's investment will definitely help. But I definitely disagree with the "less desirable, undeveloped Clintonville" comment. Yes, recent high street developments have been mostly awful. But if you go 40ft past high street you still have the dense, historic, and well maintained homes that make it desirable now. To say undeveloped makes it sound like the place is full of vacant lots and empty former industrial areas like Wieland Park, Harrison West, and Victorian Village used to have. Do denser developments on high street add more amenities and put more people on the streets, yes, but with little exception the areas just past high street are fully developed and fully occupied. A Verizon store on the corner of High and North Broadway absolutely sucks, but does it not being a Verizon store with 4 floors of apartments on top destroy the rest of the neighborhood? Nope.

Columbus: Italian Village Developments and News
17thState replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionColumbus Business First notes that "The development would be served by 398 parking spaces including two levels of underground parking". I was very pleasantly surprised to see underground parking, and two levels! Hopefully this catches on. Also the renderings for this look great. Side note, you couldn't pay me to live that close to a railroad track. I live ~3/4 mile from that same line and you can still hear the trains at night, I couldn't imagine being next to the thing. But to each their own.

Upper Arlington: Developments and News
17thState replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionSo I thought it was really interesting that article mentions that the world's first ATM was installed at Kingsdale in 1969. I was thinking that makes sense NCR's just down the road, what a cool fact. Turns out the first ATM was installed in London in 1967. (source is an NCR history of the ATM article). You think it's too late to get the Upper Arlington News to issue a correction?

Columbus: German Village / Schumacher Place Developments and News
17thState replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI have to say I'm a little underwhelmed by the design of this. It does look very monolithic in the renderings with nearly the same section repeated 5 or so times. I know it's hard to build a giant box that looks good, but some height variations or changes in fascade materials would be appreciated. I'd much rather they develop this as two or three separate structures, the site is two full blocks.

17thState replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionAlways happy to see a building get new life, but the mix of uses seems odd to me on this one. First floor apartments with offices above seems like the opposite of most buildings.

Forum - Invision 4.5 Upgrade
Definitely noticed the change in look. I like the new typography, but when they said their goal was "A brighter UI with more saturation" they really went for it. I do miss some of light grays of the old look that was a little less stark. But I'm sure I'll get used to it. Has anyone come across any new features worth mentioning?

Cleveland: Flats Developments (Non-Stonebridge or FEB)
The Camp Chase Trail southwest of Columbus runs next to a railroad line and actually crosses the grade a handful of times. I'm not aware of any issues. It seems less dangerous than riding your bike on the road, at least a train won't suddenly open its door in front of you, run into you because it was distracted.

Columbus: Westland Developments and News
17thState replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThis is something I don't get the appeal of. Who wants to swim in a saltwater lagoon in the middle of Ohio at an RV park? I know saltwater pools can avoid some chlorine use, but does that apply in lagoon form? I like the idea of a luxury RV resort, it's unique and there's not much else going on in that part of town, but are there that many people looking to feel a little more buoyant?
