  1. I'd rather see 24 wind turbines off the CLE coast than an extra 24 stories on this building (as far as the rendering shows)! But that's just me and that's for another topic! Carry on!
  2. I too would like to see an office supply store downtown. It's not just so I can buy a bic either  Yes, most businesses order supplies through office supply companies abut no matter how well you plan ahead, sometimes things come up where it'd be nice to walk a couple blocks and buy what you need. Instead of making phone calls to order something or pull someone away from work to drive to a store. Seriously, drive to Steelyard to pic up a cheap board of foam core? That's like saying drive to Beachwood or Westlake to buy some jeans. Do 1 million or whatever "OMG I need a bic" moments keep office max/staples expresses open in other downtowns (ie Chicago)? With the push for residents and more students downtown, it'd be nice to have one or two office supply stores and even a Utrecht, Pearl, or Blick because frankly, the current CSU bookstores aren't cutting it unless you need the true basics. Once I needed foam core boards but Kinkos ($30-40/board) and Brothers ($10-12+) charged way too much for something that should have cost a few bucks. Convenience surcharge? No! it's called monoply and taking advantage of people who don't have any other choice. Oh, and this isn't glamorous by any means but why isn't there a Walgreen's/CVS in downtown's largest neighborhood (WHD)??? Downtown isn't big and if it's before 8pm, sure you can walk to the Euclid CVS but everyone can't predict when they'll need to go to CVS. This is something so basic, yet would draw about 3 pages of comments on this forum if we learned a 24 hr Walgreens was coming to W9th...
  3. Really this Cleveland vs Cincy metro population argument is overplayed too much! Clevelanders will use 2.9 mil number when everyone will use the 2.2 +/- number. Houston only has 3 teams and has 3.5 million more people in the metro area than Cincy (based on a quick wikipedia check) so what's your point? Let's not forget Seattle who will probably have two teams soon if/when the Sonics leave. There's more to the number of franchises per city than population--they're rooted deep into most older cities--cultural institutions in one sense. I'd be as suprised to see Cincy/Dayton getting an NBA team as Cleveland landing ANOTHER NHL team.
  4. can't wait for the gelato!!! Mayday, you're not the only one who may be concerned w/ eating too much gelato!
  5. add Nordstrom to Chicago. Carson's in the Loop is gone, so is Lord and Taylor from WTP. There used to be a Carsons or Lord and Taylor near Sears Tower too but I haven't been over that way for awhile.
  6. In a few sentences, they uptalked the ECP better than any media has here!
  7. I saw that walking home last night and all I can say is, " HOLY FRICKING HOLY SATURDAY!" For any of you who are Catholic or grew up Catholic, it looks like a church that exploded with flowers for Easter! A very nice addition! And the best thing is that the patios are full! For some landscaping ideas, they might want to look at how overboard (in a good way) Chicago goes in flowers and such, coordinating with seasons/holidays.
  8. I stand near the back door so I don't wrinkle anything before I get to work! Plus if I have a bag or two or an umbrella it's a pain in the derriere! Not to mention I live 5 min. away in OC.
  9. What do you all think of keeping air fuel prices at a price they were a couple years ago and charging $7+/gallon for automobile gas? Now I'm car free but it will take Amtrak some time to turn things around and it'd be nice to keep airfare at a reasonalbe price... Just wondering...
  10. Hopefully we won't feel the brunt of this or else we'd be teetering on the verge of "focus city"...
  11. OMG, I just realized what TATL stands for! Anyways, I think next time I'm at CLE, i'm going to book the flight around 5 just to hear announcements in the councourse in French! Well, they better have French/English announcements like other airports!
  12. Prairie Avenue Bookstore on South Wabash--huge store but pricey! Go a few block south to Powells and find nice selection of architecture/planning books for a fraction of the cost at Prairie! Oh, and stop by the chocolatier next door for truffles and gelato! MMM!
  13. I also wrote to the two reporters expressing my displeasure with the article. Basically they said they were just reporting the facts. This article was not supposed to be about the benefits of the new service--previous articles have addressed that. They said it wasn't their job to celebrate the service, only give facts. Not reporting the finances of this trip would have prompted more than 1/2-or so they say-of their readers to complain. Nice assumption on their part! Nonetheless, I am very disappointed in the fluff used to surround the facts and the composition of the article as the same facts could have been stated in a more positive light. Oh, and I brought up the India trip a few posts earlier just to make Jackson's coach flight not as bad! Anyways, It was 17hrs ORD-MUM on Air India but we had to pick up some passengers in FRA which was exactly the 1/2 way point-they let us off for about 45 minutes which was nice so it wasn't technically 17hrs n/s...
  14. after flying to mumbai, 7.5 hrs to paris is nothing!
  15. I agree MTS. My concern/disgust, however, is with the way the PD portrayed this flight--actually they didn't. They found it necessary to point out that Jackson's croissants are free and that Superior/E80th residents can't afford to fly to Paris. That's it! Columbus, Indy, Pitt, etc would die for this service and our paper is out to make this flight fail so Jackson and the Port Authority can be scrutinized for wasting $14,000. Personally, if Jackson wasn't going, I'd be p*ssed! Too bad Strickland can't get over there-at least with the Cleveland crew as this is great news for Ohio!
  16. OMG does this article p*ss anyone else off?! I mean come f'in on! It's this city's second EVER non-stop trans-atlantic flight (albiet for 3.5 months) and the first and last sentences of the article reek of the typical pd/cleveland cynicism and skepticism that we are all sick of! Based on what's happened to airports in mid-sized markets like CLE in the past 5 years, you'd think we'd be thrilled to see our airline add service-especially overseas! I can't believe they included that crap from Mr. Williams--really, I think that the non-stop service to CDG will do more good for NEO than the "harm" of Cleveland spending $14,000. Why is this article mainly about how much $ this will cost the city and not the benefits of having non-stop access to one of the world's busiest and most diverse airport/city? Let's not talk about how this make Cleveland one layover away to anywhere in the world--even more so than JFK/EWR. God forbid we look at this as a stepping stone to even more intl flights and greater involvement in the intl business community. This is one of the most important things to happen to CLE and the city in a very long time and it's a shame so little fanfare is being made! I remember when I was younger, there were commercials on tv promoting Continentals LGW service from CLE. Now I guess they need to spend more $$ on fuel and what not but I can't believe there isn't more being done to promote this service. There are dozens of Continental billboards around the city and not one has this posted. I'm sorry if this sounds whiny but I'm very upset with the way in which the pd "promoted" this service. AH! :whip:
  17. I ate at zocalo for the first time last week and I thought the food was good. Definetly not worthy of the rippings it has took during the last year or so--although maybe the food did improve. Nonetheless, it was packed on lunch hour-downstairs it the catacombs too! Nice to hear about their involvement with the Latin Iron Chef!
  18. Isn't downtown's "boundary" relatively small and excludes the very close, RELEVANT neighborhoods of Ohio City, Tremont, Detroit Shoreway +/-, oh and Flats West Bank?! Can someone tell me the rough population if we include these neighboring neighborhoods?
  19. Move to Cleveland where you can have a front row seat to all of the action! We'd love to have you!

Or beat the Pistons... Anyways, Bill Walton is way worse than Barkley! I hate hearing him broadcast a game. How did the city look during the past two games? I don't have cable so I watched the FSN broadcasts on WUAB>
  21. PanAm/Met Life is one of my favorite buildings in NYC! It's so distinct, rough and massive--sums up mid 20th century America! God are we lucky to have saved our building from demolition.
  22. desperate-trying to be cool like Crocker Park? Probably what they're thinking :|

  25. Many companies are in the burbs but aren't MORE in the city?
