  1. We know that Southwest rules MDW but couldn't CO bring everything to MDW and forget ORD or do too many people use codeshares on intl flights from ORD? Between EWR, IAH and codeshares in ATL/DTW, I would think there's enough intl flights.
  2. taking my last trip through mdw on CO May 15-18 apparently... Having to ride the Blue Line may make me permanently switch to Southwest as far as Chicago is concerned!
  3. I don't think it's an issue of keeping Eaton vertical OR horizontal! Height has a miniscule effect on the vibrancy of a city. Renaissance Center in Detroit is pretty tall and didn't/doesn't it act as a magnet--drawing a lot of activity that could otherwise be on the streets in the CBD? Lisbon and Amsterdam are around the same size as CLE+ they have a very active streetscape yet a nonexistent skyline--at least by American standards. Houston or Amsterdam...hmmm.... you choose! The issue w/ Eaton and FEB is how it relates to the neighborhood and how it's relocation/growth can positively affect downtown-esp FEB. I'm hoping Wolstein and co. chose Eaton not only b/c they needed some "meat" to solidify the project, but also b/c they want an organization who can best make FEB a great success! An urban success!
  4. I wonder what will happen to the se corner at E4/Prospect? I love the openess of that space! I wish a Parisian style bistro/cafe would open up providing simple snacks and drinks (coffee/beer/diabolo menthes), even a prix-fixe menu with only a couple options that change every day-- a casual outlet on the street. It would be nice to have 24 hr. cafe in the city as I don't think there are any 24 coffee shops in Cleveland?? Coffee shop not greasy diner! It was great using the 24hr. coffee shops in Chicago and I think that an addition like this on E4 would be great for downtown!
  5. I LOVE gravy and cheese fries! Freshman year at school we looked at our friend from Long Island like she was crazy but it wasn't too long after that did we experience the beauty of the perfect late night-post drinking snack!
  6. Love the name! In addition to UO, why would people not want to move to CLE+?!
  7. If by lower Euclid you mean City Blue, god I hope you're wrong!
  8. if I had the $$$, I would build 10 of them!
  9. I'm so glad that Market Cafe and Phoenix have opened on E. 9th! For such a main street, it definetly was lacking storefronts that engaged pedestrians! Hopefully there will be more to come-like the empty building across from the Cathedral!
  10. AWESOME NEWS!
  11. Compared to most airports--in terms of navigability and crowds, Hopkins is a God sent!
  12. The headline and first sentence of this article are not fitting at all! :x I was waiting to read ECP bashing and how it's destroyed the CBD! D@mn, looks like I'll have to wait until next week's PD for an article like that!
  13. Thanks McCleveland!
  14. I can but can't believe there's only one bid! well, one "legit" bid.
  15. Yes yes yes! I agree! Who really cares if we're 200,000 +/- larger or smaller than city XYZ! It's a mindset. Does it really matter than Detroit is 2x the size of CLE proper? We're in a unique situation b/c the scale and density of things in Cleveland give off a big city vibe--Smallest big city remember?! I love walking out of TC in the morning seeing PS with skyscrapers and Burnhams civic buildings! Looking down Ontario at the courthouse lit by the morning sun transplants you--for a few seconds--to a vista we've seen somewhere in Europe. The right mix of local and national businesses will make visiting Cleveland worthwhile--and not just because we have a few bags in our hands. It's the entire package of evident history, present, and cranes of the future that will get us our own Frommer's book in a few years! "PROGRESS AND PROSPERITY" It's kind of ironic that a lot of people don't even know we have a flag, let alone this as the motto!
  16. We've had some nice articles throughout national publications all year! Off the top of my head, we were in the Chicago Tribune for the food scene, a Chicago Red Eye 2 weeks ago for things to do on a short weekend trip in Cleveland, Oprah's mag's little article, and a HUGE (25 +/- pages!) story about the city in in USAirways Oct 2007 magazine (btw, I have a few left if anyone would like one--quite an impressive spread!).
  17. Question Question! Why is there a large swatch of concrete in front of the Park Building on Public Square? Does it have something to do w/ underground utilities or is it going to be replaced with bricks? thanks!
  18. Oh no you didn't... Usually airliners.net have april fools jokes like Emirates setting up a North American Hub at CLE or Continental starting non-stops CLE-Johannesburg. It's April already!
  19. 6 weeks later and still "coming soon"?
  20. I must say though that shopping is the missing least represented component in our great neighborhoods. I love eating and drinking but I don't want to be 300 lbs either. The best shopping occurs when you just happen to wander into a store--here, most places you have to "know" that you're going there. Spontaneous shopping is when I spend the most!
  21. You can find some good deals in Surroundings' basement. I think they have a sale going on right now too. I have some furniture from there that I got for quite the steal! I asked them how they were doing and they say they do quite well. They just don't rely on foot traffic (ie you or me wandering in and buying a few things).

Is TOL closer to DTW than CAK/YNG to CLE?! Where's commuter rail when you need it?!
  23. I'm going to smack the dead horse one more time too in asking this question: Why are we making such a huge deal about someone having to walk across Public Square in February just to go from TC to the current CC?! Really! Why do we expect people to be protected from all of the elements when they visit Cleveland? Are we embarrassed b/c it's cold and snowy here in the winters?Hardly anything like an unzipped pant zipper! I'm so sick of hearing/seeing that point being addressed as to why TC would make a better site! :x I'm for keeping the CC at the current site b/c: 1. Inherent potential for the Mall to connect all corners of downtown as a result of the activity and spinoff development of the new CC/MM. It's at the center of it all-WHD, Gateway, North Coast, Business Dist., Playhouse, ETC. As the trek across the square isn't long, the current site is more centralized and more importantly, think it will be way harder to fill the void of an even more vacant Mall if it moves to TC. 2. TC doesn't suck now b/c there isn't a CC attached to it. As a transit hub with a 50 story skyscraper and two hotels attached to it, and with some TLC and $$$, there's no reason it can't be the region's best shopping center--or at the very least, a shopping center providing useful amenities to the residents and visitors of downtown, OC, and Tremont. Even if we didn't get the MM, there's not reason to believe that TC should never improve. Some people/owners are too cheap.
  24. 1. Who really thinks that Twinsburg would contain stores not already existing in NEO? With gas nearly $4/gallon, who are these "plenty of suburbanites" and where are they coming from? Maybe they've done "studies" to justify this by I have a hard time believing the validity of another center w/o a truely unique anchor like Ikea or something else with that allure. 2. Go to Michigan Ave, take off the sunglasses, and really look at who's down there. Yes you have some Europeans and Asians in the city to look at the architecture, museums, and take advantage of a weak $ but there a throngs of middle America who venture to Chicago to experience the "big city", 75% of them decked out in Northface gear from head-to-toe, and then return home acting like they were on some other planet and return to the same lifestyle. I understand we can't come home after a weekend abroad, snap our fingers and boom-10 more rta lines running throughout the city but the change has to begin somewhere. Chicago is hyper-manicured city. There's a level of perfection and exuberance downtown that makes you want to limit your stay. I can honestly say that 80% of the non-Chicagoans with whom I went to school want to or have already left Chicago after graduation. It looses its luster after a little while--and after a while I mean more than one or two weekend visits a year. 3. master,Downtown Cleveland is affordable and accessible for everyone! What more do you want? Free valet parking and someone in the stalls to assist you? Seriously! And why isn't downtown attractive for retail? Centralized, authentic atmosphere-nothing that could ever be recreated in Twinsburg! oh, you can walk all over too. There's a site called Cleveland.com--go there.
