  1. What exactly is Lisa Kreiger's job?!
  2. OC b/c we're lazy, not OC b/c we want to be "cool" like the show

Thank you! Now it's OUR duty to make sure there aren't any more dots!!! Just bigger dots!
  4. The sign "works" as in it tells you when the next train is coming but it doesn't tell you if it's east/westbound like it used to (summer time?) I know back in the fall at UC/Cedar stop it didn't mention east/westbound either. I should have mentioned it earlier
  5. June in Buffalo?! HAHAHA! One of the best replies ever! Anyways, I don't know if I'd go so far to ask Clevelanders to embrace the cold but at least accept it since we all know it's coming Nov-Mar! Why do we act so suprised when it's 20 in February?! OMG! Anyways, BM/BC's patio is rather busy with smokers--one of the best things to increase street life was pushing smokers outside! Let's see, the news this morning b*tched about the rain despite 60 degree weather in Feb, and then 2 seconds later b*tched about 25 degree weather next week... Ah I'd love to smack them!

Thank you ChiClevKid for pointing out that Crew Stadium isn't in an "urban" area--I don't care what anyone says b/c when we think "urban", we don't anticipate wandering around fairgrounds with the only amenity a McDonalds. Again, I think Chicago can "afford" to have their stadium way out in the burbs but fortunately, we don't have that luxury. Walking home from work yesterday it looks like W25/Lorain isn't large enough but something like Lakewood Stadium or developing around CSU would do a lot of good things for the respective neighborhoods. Again, Byers or Finnie (BW) would be much better than starting from scratch in Macedonia or whatever. It's fun to think of the transformation that could occur if/when a development like this happens in the inner city! This could be the domed stadium needed for bowl games/final four (both looking for crowds around 30,000?) but unfortunately no superbowl since a 70,000+ stadium is too big!

damn you got me there! I'd rather see a makeover at Byers Field than Macedonia. I wonder if Detroit wishes 22,000 people would come downtown 50+ games/year instead of going to Auburn Hills...Although would the same amount of people go downtown? This isn't a low blow either.

As "central" as Macedonia may be (although I'm sure the soccer mom's in Bay/Westlake/Avon/Etc. would disagree, how can one not see how STUPID it is trying to create a destination in the MIDDLE OF NOWHERE when there are areas such as Cleveland proper with transportation/entertainment infrastructure already in place. On a macro scale we've seen how Gateway has transformed part of downtown. I think that a nice 20,000 seat stadium could do wonders for some parts of the city. Not quite the scale of Wrigleyville but something along the same intimacy/character? Corner of W25/Lorain would rock! Knock down the plaza! RTA access, amenities, nearby Ignatius/CSU. This would provoke a density in the neighborhood allowing it it explode-in a good way! This isn't a matter of being strictly biased against suburbs but protesting the idea that Applebee's, Friday's, and Target in cooperation with a fricking retractable roof stadium way out in the boonies is what Cleveland needs to assert itself as a not dying city. Just b/c Dallas or Chicago who built their stadium in Naperville?did it doesn't mean we should. Chicago has +/-11 million people in its metro with a large hispanic population out that way (not that that means anything) but in addition to plane jane suburbs with thousands of soccer moms, sure, filling a 15,000 seat stadium is peanuts. I don't think our city is on life support but we can't be stupid either. We've seen too many stupid moves in the past and we're still trying to fix those mistakes.
  9. Ok, we DIDN'T make this list (thank god!)...Let's just stop acknowledging this thread and use our energy on positive things instead of trying to guess what the PD would have written if we made it! I'm just as guilty!
  10. I like how it's right up on the Playhouse!
  11. Forgive me if this has been addressed but for the past few months, the "Next train" notices at the OC rapid station do not indicate whether or not the Airport/Windermere train is eastbound or westbound. I know back in the summer/early fall, it would say, "Airport/Wind East" or "Airport/Wind. West". Now it's a toss up. Just wondering... Thanks!

I hope it didn't come across as b*tchy or condescending! I don't know if there is a plan downtown either...
  13. Last night's wine dinner at Bar Cento was a huge success! A full house was treated to a 7-course 4.5 hr long meal! $45 got you ALL of this! It was a huge steal and please check out the website-or better yet BM/BC for future events. FYI there is a beer-paired dinner end of February. To top the evening off, this businessman for Tampa, FL came in after having a drink at GLBC. It was late and he wanted food so they sent him to us. He apparently is in Cleveland rather often and makes it a point to go to GLBC. Not only was he thrilled to try our food and beers, but he told me, "You guys have a fantastic city!" OMG, as if the many compliments and local support for BM/BC wasn't great to see last night, this was the icing on the delicious cake! Our city IS awesome! 8-)
  14. If we had 1/10 of what these guys have, Lord what we could do here!
  15. Again it's this chicken/egg question. When does the time come for FC to GIVE a little in order to GET A LOT in return?! Jesus, you can't complain about people not shopping somewhere when there's no where to shop! :whip: :drunk:
  16. get over it please... Let us know when you win the Pritzker...
  17. I think TJ would do well in OC even with Dave's and WSM. 1, Dave's offers a totally different atmosphere and selection of products than TJ's so I think that with the diversity that exists in and around Tremont/OC/Downtown, there wouldn't be a problem. 2, WSM doesn't cater to those who have 8-5 jobs except on Saturday and even then, having to wait for one day a week to buy something special doesn't always pan out. The WSM will still continue to attract suburbanites on weekends and the spectacle of market alone should let it thrive. It'd be cool if TJ teamed up and used some of the vendors' products to help eliminate the costs even more. Now the Detroit Shoreway might even make a better candidate but OC is central to the hotter westside neighborhoods and downtown. Even though there are a lot of proposed developments downtown, a Trader Joes can set up shop literally tomorrow while none of us really know if/when downtown's new neighborhoods will be ready to accomodate business.

OMG if SYC preempts retail downtown, I'm leaving now! For real, SYC is fine and let whatever stores are there now and the ones most likely on the way (Bed Bath and Beyond, Kohls, Dicks, Pat Catan's, stores along these lines) go there and leave downtown for stores NEW to NEO and stores where you're not pushing carts full of blue light special items. Downtown can't be reserved for only high end businesses, but at the same time, it must contain stores/restaurants that we can't find out in the burbs and stores that will draw people in from all over the area. Honestly, we'd be foolish to expect SYC to mimic some faux-posh lifestyle center in terms of retailers and atmosphere-it's an old steel mill site that sits a couple miles from a gorgeous downtown--that's where West Elm or CB or whatever else along these lines that have been mentioned here should go. It's not like retail in downtown is bursting at the seams and we need an overflow space for the line of natl/intl retailers waiting to set up shop along Euclid. One day I hope but today... SYC filled a void in the city in a few short years and it's location surrounded by freeways and in the front yards of mills makes this plain jane strip mall way cooler than anything else in the burbs. I think it's time to move on, let SYC finish its last phase(s) and let downtown and other pertinent neighborhoods attract new retailers.
  19. LOL, at first when I saw Brooklyn, I thought you were referring to Brooklyn, Ohio! I was like, "Brooklyn wants a TJ'S???"
  20. You know, Cleveland can sustain more than one TJ! One in Univ. Circle/Case, one downtown, and one westside (probably a bit more west than W.25th since it's pratically downtown). Not to get way off track but I always thought a nice little grocery shop/more upscale convenient store would be a good fit for the vacant storefront in the Osborn bldg. at Prospect/Huron. There are quite a few residences around here and it's too bad that workers/residents have to walk to Constantinos or Reserve Square. Back to OC!!!
  21. And regarding the two plazas intended for 668 and Ameritrust: I think they may play an integral part if connecting Euclid to Prospect/Huron and allowing for development (especially retail) to flourish throughout this part of downtown instead of trying to keep everything along Euclid. There isn't too much space on Euclid as "BP", National City, Huntington, Union Club, and couple other storefronts are not retail/entertainment friendly. Downtown could have a more European feel to it if these plazas are done correctly and areas around Gateway/PHS/Halles are drawn into the mix of these other developments. We'd have a big web of activity especially if you include WHD/FEB/CSU too! I'm excited! Honestly, if losing the Dollar Bank building is essential in adding to the growth and energy of downtown, knock it down! I don't think any of us will even notice it's missing when there are throngs of people shopping on Euclid again and it's occupied by people having lunch. Right now, there aren't as many people down here as we'd like to see which hurts our perception of the many plazas we already have. ESPECIALLY the Burnham Mall! I wish the con. center would stay there and expand so we'd see how great of a space the malls when surround by so much density! Sorry to get off topic but I felt that this related to the 668 discussion.

I really need to check those two stores out!
  23. It took at least 1.5 hours to get from the Loop to Ohare on Dec. 17th when I went to India. Now this is quite the daily norm especially around that part of the city but boy, what I wouldn't give to be stuck in that traffic compared to Bombay! More NEO-ians need to leave for a bit!
  24. Another pointless ranking. God knows that if this goes on Cleveland.com, someone will probably write "Cleveland was #11"... I really don't know if "miserable" is the correct term to use however. Anyways, it does show us that Cleveland really isn't that special--there's rain, snow, clouds, crime, employments issues, etc. EVERYWHERE else too! I'm not referrring to attitudes on UO but in the city in general. Spending one sunny July weekend in Chicago in downtown and Wrigleyville really isn't exposing oneself to the entire story that is Chicago. As manicured their downtown tries to be, there's so much more that no one sees. The same goes for here too except often we let the bad take the front seat. No city is perfect and we need to realize that the change begins with our attitude--as trite or corny as that sounds. Really, what good does b*tching about the cold weather today accomplish?
  25. Hey, did I hear correctly on the news this morning that Shaw was chosen to march in a parade in Beijing for this year's Olympics?! I think they need to raise nearly $100,000 before some time in March though! Good luck and GOOD FOR THEM!!!
