  1. Just one comment: Art, architecture, and/or design schools do not need to study in a space as "flamboyant" as the works produced. I've had the privelage to study in Mies' Crown Hall for five years and it is not "plain boring and blah".
  2. can we add this ranking to the incinerator too? give me a break! I think we in Cleveland can afford a rather high quality of life with a low living cost too but what do I know. Oh well, I'm glad I moved back to the fat, poor, violent, economically and relationship stagnet Cleveland  Oh, but we are the smartest of that bunch! Seriously people...
  3. No-they're 50% full. The host is req'd to drink 1/2 of the bottle when you buy it to-go. Why do you think I host?

I took 4 years of French at Brunstucky,a couple summer courses at Tri-C during college, and lived in Paris for 5 months. I could move there and never speak English again but it'd take awhile to fully understand tv. Speaking and writing are the easiest for me. I wish I new Spanish! I take the little Spanish I know and try to borrow from French but it really doesn't work! 5 years at IIT with a lot of Mexican friends and nothing! :| My grandma is Okinawan and she's fluent in Japanese and Okinawan but I don't know anything besides the basics and "you are very rude".
  5. quick ques...Timeline for Saigon and La Strada? I don't want to look through 40 pages!
  6. Bar Cento is open! We serve food until 2am-ish. You can find me hosting Saturday and Sunday evenings! FYI all you wine lovers, MOST bottles of wine are 50% when bought 'to go'! Hope to see a lot of you there!
  7. you know, around the E. 30s...on progressiveurban.com, Loftworks starts at under 100k.
  8. so Litt doesn't consider Mies assertive?
  9. I hope to be there too!
  10. Wow! Have Stark or Wolstein threads received 3 pages of replies in one day?! :-) Anyways, I always thought living around the east side work/live neighborhood would be fun (well at least inside your home). I've seen lofts starting in the mid 90s.
  11. I hope to come! The august meet was fun but I couldn't make sept.
  12. Well DTW is a huge airport plus since it's far from the city center and most people would probably rather stay in the friendly confines of suburban detroit... Nothing personal Detroiters  Anyways, a Sofitel would spice things up and compliment our Paris service!!
  13. I've said it once and I'll say it again... I'd walk down to E 55th from PS and feel safe. It's quite amazing looking at the development that has taken place, under construction, and the future potential. Also, Mayday, you're a tease!!! That rendering of the WHD made Stark seem cool again... By the way, did you have any Xmas ale yet?!
  14. FCUK, Armani Exchange, Club Monaco, the midwest's first Zara, etc....if/when these happen, they better not go out in some lame-@ss suburb! Let all of those people living in denial (including Stark) have ANOTHER Talbots, Chicos, Coldwater, and Gap. This is ridiculous!
  15. No I wasn't being sarcastic. Yes the Warehouse District has its eyesores but downtown Cbus is FAR from having any room to talk. New mid-rise or not. Anyways, I'm not here to start stuff between Cleveland and Columbus but their grass isn't any greener than ours.
  16. Tear down Tower City :? Yeah, ok... Tower City is not your typical shopping mall by any stretch of the imagination. Maybe placing all of the high end retailers in a transportation hub is a bad idea and they'd be better suited for storefronts throughout downtown. I can only speak for Paris, but Gare du Nord and the Les Halles clusterf*ck are malls with direct access to trains but you wouldn't be looking for Louis Vuitton in those places. Oh, and another thing, European cities have security guards at the doors of very store to prevent shoplifting. Maybe we need a few of them if tenants and customers don't feel safe in TC. I personally have nothing to hide from a guard when shopping. Making TC successful seems like a no brainer but we like to make things complicated in this city...
  17. I'll take our current downtown any day over downtown C'bus and its new residential tower. No offense but I would. You think our downtown has a lot of parking lots?!

i saw that US Airways article and the photos they took made the city looks as vibrant as any other city in this country! Oprah's little article was nice but the USAirways took it to the next level! Thank you!
  19. Color scheme relates to the CLE airport logo. Aren't these things supposed to be a bit corny though? It makes you wonder to whom they're trying to market the city/region. Anyways, nothing will ever match the timelessness of the I heart NY logo. "Experience Columbus" isn't anything to write home about although graphically it is better than our ldesign. God, if anything, stick with "Cleveland Rocks" as corny and tacky as that may seem. It works and people all over the country are familar with it. As simple as I heart NY may seem, I'm sure when that slogan began, people thought it was corny.

Did we all have our coffee this morning? I, by the way, have been thinking about signing up for internet in Ohio City too but haven't gotten around to it... I look forward to the advice!
  21. Stupid garce! Another thing, it's too bad that throngs of people who rip on RTA maybe venture to Chicago (I'll use this as an example since it's closer and cheaper to travel to/visit than NYC and has a "real" public transit system) once a year or once every few years and use the CTA for a couple rides. They marvel about how wonderful it is and why RTA sucks. If they actually used it, they'd realize that buses and trains tend to comes in groups of 3 too! It's not uncommon to wait 30 min. for 3 #29 buses or have the trip to ORD take over an hour from downtown b/c the train stops in between every stop for crews on the tracks. As negative as some people are about Cleveland, they also have huge egos thinking that we're this special case study on urban America and why no other city in the world can compare to all of our "shortcomings". Give me a break! Ahh! Oh well, today my commute took 10 min thanks to N. America's best transit system instead of 1.5 hours like coworkers who were stuck on the freeways. Let's go RTA! Now that they've earned that title, there is no room for complacency.
  22. There are only 3 things that I miss about living in Chicago: 1. Friends 2. Shopping downtown--real shopping downtown. Hopefully our day in Cleveland will come soon... 3. Bongo Room
  23. Oh God if anything Zaremba plans to do resembles the Brunstucky Town Center, let's throw rocks at the Avenue District! Talk about urban scar! :-o
  24. People who never leave home will hate home! It doesn't matter if it's Cleveland, Chicago, Paris, or whatever. We all understand that. People think I'm insane for leaving Chicago, or better yet, choosing to come back to Cleveland and I tell them, "leave." Also, there seems to be a lot of people who'd rather b*tch about something and stay 'miserable' than change things. I guess they're lazy?? We're all preaching to the choir here but it's the fresh blood and money that will change things. The old blood and money won't jump until 403 people jump before them and they see they might make a profit.
