  1. I wish that tunnel was a bit more inspiring. ORD's United terminal set the standard for tunnels and DTW's is cool too. Our's is sooooo bland! Anyways, this is awesome news! Although we don't know the scope yet, this is just as big or even bigger than any downtown project! Come on Friday!
  2. well on airliners.net some wiseman said this was good news for such a depressed city...Give me a break! I say good ridance to steel mills! They make this city smell bad!

On big US maps NYC and Chicago have bigger dots than Cleveland, therefore Cleveland has a bigger dot than Dayton. No hard feelings!
  4. YAY!!! FILL!!! Is that ground retail I see?! I wish the actual design was a bit more intriguing than this illustration...

Ok fellow UOers. Here are my 2 final submissions. The last bw pic is for fun--along the lines of the night vision map and shows the diff. dot sizes in case we can't use color for some reason. Enjoy, this has been fun and good luck to everyone!
  7. Uh, I love CLE but if downtown Chicago sucks in January...
  8. I must say, Philly looks SEXY in that picture!!!
  9. Make that the #22, whoops. By the way, it sounds like they use some program from 1997 to make the computerized voices--I think I heard the same corny voice in jr. high computer class. The El guy on the trains sounds nice. The lady at the platforms has the most obnoxious midwest/chicago accent ever!
  10. Although the El doesn't tell you when the next train is coming until approx. 1 min. before it approaches the station. 15 min. waits take forever when you don't know how long you have to wait. I think just about every Metro station in Paris has indicators for how long the wait time is and the best thing is they're never more than 5 min!!! Talk about a system to emulate! I agree though, we need automated stop indicators b/c 90% of the time, you can't understand the operator. Today, however, I had a pleasant suprise when I heard automated stops on the #20. That was the first time I heard that all summer!

Here's on revision I made on an earlier entry.
  13. I was wondering what was going on in that space! Sounds tastey!
  14. I must say that for the first time, I'm beginning to see the potential for neighborhood revivals and growth along the ECP! Here's my story: Monday evening I was driving back from the east side and decided to take Euclid-from E. 55th-back into downtown and over to Ohio City. I was amazed at the development taking place throughout Midtown and into CSU! I've "read" about what's going on in Midtown but haven't checked it out in a while and I was truely impressed and excited about the future. Even though I drove down Euclid around 9pm, I felt one could walk all the way from E.55th to Public Square and feel completely safe! The new shelters look rather sleek too! They have a nice glow to them at night I'll bet they glisten in the snow. I hope that RTA can maintain a high level of cleanliness along this line... Anyways, even though a subway or streetcar line would seem to be a better investment, I will stop counting the ECP short even if it's just fancy busses. With some smart planning (ie no setbacks or surface lots)--especially in Midtown and the CSU neighborhood, I don't doubt the ECP's ability to facilate and maintain our soon to be reborn Euclid Avenue. Regarding the recent thread about Superior Ave. acting as Cleveland's Michigan Ave., I feel that Euclid is well on its way. Ok, well we need a lot more money invested in projects along the street but we're at a good starting point. Again, if anyone hasn't made the few mile drive up to E. 55th since they've installed shelters, DO SO NOW! It's the breath of fresh air we need in the dusty alley that Euclid's been the past few years! I really hope this momentum continues--or better yet increases--so that our storied avenue can once again stand with Michigan, Yonge, or whatever else! Now if someone would build 515 already!!!
  15. Has it been mentioned what kind of trains the route will use? Will it be something similar to the Red Line trains?

Ricky Davis is looking to be Jackson's greates accomplishment since winning that election!
  17. I always thought we could have our own little Borneo Sporenburg along the Cuyahoga!
  18. It looks like I'm going to bite this bait... Ctown216, are you SERIOUS when justifying that Cleveland needs highrises b/c Manhattan has highrises?!?! :-o You're forgetting one thing they have and one thing we don't have yet...DENSITY, PEOPLE! The only place to go is up over in NYC and if you're a developer trying to make some money, you have to build up to take in as much money from as many tenants as possible. Our land is not as valuable here and the demand isn't here to warrant a bunch of 700-100' towers with footings equally as long. Come on... Believe it or not, 4-300' towers would contribute 100x more to the vibrancy of downtown than 1-1200' building. Oh, and go to La Defense in Paris v.s. any arrondissement and tell me what's more vibrant. Most outsiders don't even know about La Defense
  19. Question KJP... Forgive me if this has already been stated but what kind of hourly frequency can we expect? With 3 or so stops in Lakewood, it'd be nice if service was similar RTA so that people would have at least 4 trains an hour. Also, will this commuter rail project make it easier for Lake/Clifton/West Shoreway to be reduced allowing Edgewater to expand? I know there has been opposition to reducing lanes in that area b/c it would increase "traffic" in those neighborhoods...
  20. Amen! Density Density Density!!!
  21. Anyways... :-) I spent the day yesterday with the family (Long Islander and Las Vegan??? on the Goodtime III and at the North Coast Harbor and the place was buzzing with activity! Nice to see! I'll post pics from the fun weekend in CLE shortly.
  22. CLE is pretty sweet! And our mega-projects haven't stirred a shovel yet! JUST WAIT!!!
  23. Hey now, do I take offense to that? :| I realize that a 16 week studio project is quite the Disney version of a real life project but I think it's unfair to discount the opinion of a recent grad/arch. student because we don't have the jaded outlook on politics. I think we need to stop this bs in the past few posts! I'm sorry but as far as design goes in Cleveland, we all have A LOT to learn.
  24. regarding the PD, I was busy pinching myself! :-D anyways, what great news to end the weekend on an action filled, gorgeous, and sunny weekend in the city! I'm leaving work early!!
