Cleveland...If you had one wish-or $1 billion...
There has to be one 'dream' project that everyone on UO wishes they could undertake in Cleveland. From knocking down the Ford plant near the airport and creating a master plan/ terminal design for CLE or converting it into a wind turbine factory...to taking a vacant block downtown and building a boutique hotel or condo, we all have projects we would start tomorrow if we had some $$$. Since moving to Ohio City, my daily runs consist of daydreaming about what could be and luckily not running into cars-although it'd be nice to actually have the problem in downtown Cleveland after 6pm... Anyways here's a few things that I think would be fun to develop  : -Create B&B's and hostels in Ohio City. The charm in this neighborhood-narrow streets, min. frontage housing, 19th century architecture-is quite unique and could provide tourists with an alternative to the hustle and bustle of downtown! -Buy the Halle's complex and May Co. and return them to their former glory! Oh, the empty lot next to Union Club and the God awful Sterling Building needs to be redeveloped to accentuate Halle's. -If port authority moves from west of Browns Stadium, that could turn into Cleveland's version of Amsterdam's Borneo Sporenburg. (maybe long term since there's a lot near the "center" to be developed) -I think in order to fully appreciate the Burnham malls, we need to surround it with highrise residential/hotels!Without density, how can one appreciate/understand the Group Plan concept? Ok well that's more than 1 but it's just to get the juices flowing. I'm sure we're all looking forward to hearing about what all of us crazy UO's think about when eating, sleeping, reading, walking, working, etc...

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
Did you say mustard?! Real Dijon mustard?!?!?! I don't mind paying $8 for a tiny jar as long as it's 'real' but nothing beats the generic $.30 french brand in France/Belgium. Also, to my PLEASANT suprise, the import grocer thing on the W.25th St. side of the WSM has stroopwafels! Not as fresh as picking them up in the Netherlands but they suffice! Now to actually leave work at 5:30pm on the dot and make it over to Import Haus is another story... Hmmm...I might have a "doctor's" apt.

Cleveland: Whiskey Island Coast Guard Station Redevelopment
Not to get off topic but the central Cleveland area has to be able to sustain another Whole Foods or at least Trader Joes (more affordable). Anyways, back to Whisky Island!

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
I hate how there are quite a few places in OC that close at 6ish! People don't leave work until then! Stay open an extra hour and make a few extra bucks! The dry cleaning place near Oui Oui is open 8-6. Who isn't at work between those hours?! Geez! People can't run every errand on Saturday.

I don't know how many of you frequent airliners.net but they've said we have 2 daily n/s btw. CLE and Oklahoma City and Ottawa, Canada. If you try to book a flight on Continental's website anytime after 10/1/07, you'll have 2 n/s options. Baby steps at first I guess...Definitely beats losing service!

Question! What is Import Haus? Someone just recently posted that it's a place to buy imported alcoholic beverages but anytime I walk, run, or drive by it, it's closed. AND it has Travel Service painted on the walls too. Is it closed for good but used to be a store? I was so excited when someone said it sold european beer and such but when I went by there, it looked abandoned... :-(

Cleveland: Whiskey Island Coast Guard Station Redevelopment
Read between the lines!!! Is this the new grocery store anchor for Flats East Bank? They want to enter the area in high regards?!?! I still hope that Constantinos can survive based on proximity and convience to all the WHD units. Ok, first things first...

Ohio: Third Frontier News & Info
Oh, and to answer your question-sort of-they also explained the process to secede +/- from Ohio and become a new state. I think Euclid has a better chance of putting Michigan Ave. to shame before NEO is a state! (not that I think Euclid Ave is a lost cause or Michigan Ave. the greatest thing since Nutella but...)

Ohio: Third Frontier News & Info
years ago-ok, well maybe 3 yrs ago-someon had a 5 sentence editorial in the PD on why CLE/NEO should become the 51st state. They wanted to call it the "State of the Western Reserve". We can be the Netherlands of America! Liberal, but green! Solar/Hydro/Wind power! Architecture! Urban renewal! Ahhh..... Eat your heart out Columbus! (Not trying to start a fight!)

Cleveland: Festivals, Music Concerts, & Events
Just an idea...I don't think the past 2 fests took place on an Indians weekend, correct? Maybe this a good way to wet the palette of 100,000 +/- so people going to the games over the 3-4 day span? I was out of town Sat/Sun but Friday was rather quiet. Is the Tribe fan crowd an untapped market? It'd be interesting to see if the fest could draw 20-30,000 more people if the Tribe is playing. It's nice that the alternating the fest weekend with a sports weekend keeps a steady flow of people into the city during the summer months but if the numbers for this year's fest are similar to the first 2, then I think they should consider changing the dates to see if numbers rise drastically. I would think in a worst case scenario, the numbers would be +/- the same. Oh, and let's NEVER complain about too many people in downtown CLE!!! There can never be too many people spending money in Cleveland!

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
I agree w/ KJP-at least I think this is what he's saying: Build rapid transit to create a 24/7 vibrant inner city community--not to "relieve" congestion b/c quite frankly, our rush hour is a joke. I'm not picking on CLE and NEO but it can be WAY worse! Step outside of NEO for one day and you'll no longer complain about rush hour traffic on our freeways. ONCE in a while it's bad but it's not a daily occurence. And when it does occur, it's only for a couple hours max unless it's some horrible accident or blizzard. Try driving on any Chicago expressway on a Friday or when it drizzles and you'll see. I don't think it's ever taken me 1.5-2 hrs. to drive to Strongsville from downtown but a 1.5-2 hr drive out to Ohare from the Loop in a common occurence. More trains, busses, trams, etc. should be available to accentuate the already existing density in Cleveland and other inner ring communities. Rapid transit is a catalyst for a development, not a cure for sprawl. If anything shouldn't it help contain the core population? Now I know I'm lazier??is this a word? than Mayday when it comes to being car-free, but if there were a few more train lines in the city, I'd consider throwing in the keys for some $$$!

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
The airfield upgrades aren't superficial. Functional, yes. Superficial, no. The point-or w/e you call it-I'm trying to make is the 'status quo' attitude it seems CLE has settled for during the past few decades. Now the new DTW terminals are probably one of the biggest fibs regarding the impression an airport makes of a city for connecting passengers-or ANY passenger for that matter but what a "gateway"! I just don't understand why anything beyond new carpet and paint is such an outlandish thing for CLE to undertake or god, even envision. We hear about a new PC and Conc. D connection. Wow... Now I'm glad things are happening, I'm just really perplexed that these issues weren't addressed 10-20 years ago. Our leaders should have envisioned this expansion years ago so that when Continental or any airline wanted to expand, they wouldn't have to wait 2 more years b/c our customs facility can't handle two int'l 757s at once. Dulles is a pain in the @ss at 4pm. Every United/Star Alliance flight arrives at the same time.

KJP, you're right-I didn't mention the airfield upgrades. As "superficial" as it may be, I was talking about the terminal and concourses themselves. Safety comes first, but there has been little vision/motivation up until now-hopefully. Let's not sugarcoat it-I don't care about BOS,PHL, MIA or any other airport that's "just as bad as CLE" either. Our terminal and concourses need major help.

Cleveland Je t'aime!
I'm up for helping out! I know nothing about film but w/e. Denver post lady rocks!

Cleveland Je t'aime!
Has anyone seen Paris Je t'aime at Cedar Lee? I saw it last weekend and it was an amazing film! I really recommend it--I think it's leaving soon since its frequency has been reduced to a matinee and 7:15pm showing. From Mimes falling in love to your stereotypical chubby, white sneaker, fanny pack wearing, American tourist speaking with the worst American French accent EVER--who falls in love with Paris--At least one or 12 of the 16 or 18 clips will get to you in a good way! You better check it out! Too bad it wasn't Cleveland Je t'aime! What a great way to showcase the city... hint hint amateur film makers on UO

Heading to Chicago for the weekend...
You have to go to Bongo Room for brunch! It's amazing! There's a South Loop location 5 steps from Roosevelt station. There's also a location in Wicker Park but I forget where that one is located. Canady Le Chocolatier has a truffle/gelato shop on Wabash, a few blocks north of Roosevelt and it's amazing! Right next to my former Chase! Make sure to visit Punch at Grace O'Malleys 1400ish?? S. Michigan. It should be the official UO hangout!

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
I understand why people are upset with raising the sales tax w/o a public vote but come on...It's $.25 extra per $100! It's chump change! Maybe I'm too young/naive and haven't had to deal with the "horrible" taxes of Cleveland and vicinity but this seems like it's more of a reason for people to b*tch about something--"they see tax increase" and it's, "off with their heads!" It's ok though, because everyone commuting 30-50 miles r/t each day can pay +$3.00/gal for gas...

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
We're our own worst enemy. Why is 2007 nearly over and the biggest upgrades at Hopkins-w/ the exception of Concourse D-over the past 30 years has been new carpet, signs, garage, and canopy that shows bird droppings? Ok, well rhetorical question there. It's ridiculous that it seems as if CLE people are finally "getting it". All we can do is cross our fingers and hope the airline industry-esp. Continental-continues to grow at a healthy rate so we can see a modest growth at CLE. As far as something shiny and new like Detroit-but W/ rail connection -That'd probably be at least 15 years away...if ever honestly. Who the F was running things back when all of you UOers were my age?!?!

The Changing Face of Cleveland: Getting a Lift in Arts Districts
No more "Italian city of the Midwest" crap! God I hate that! Let's see, we have Milwaukee, the Venice of the Midwest; Chicago, Paris or Milan of the Midwest; and I'm sure all of our other fellow MW cities have coined themselves one city or another. God, please don't let Detroit call itself the Monaco of the Midwest because they have gambling and like cars! :-o As corny as it sounds, we need to push to be CLEVELAND! As long as we keep coming up with stupid wannabe knicknames for the city, most people will never take it seriously. Oh, and if we're going to be Milan, let's enforce a dresscode for downtown night venues b/c frankly, there are too many people that look like they came from Parma! No offense but does anyone on UO live in Parma?

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
a very belated-Thanks to the neighborhood fellow UOers! J. Mango's and Oui Oui-or w/e it's called now are great. I need to try the sushi and Momocho. I've actually been to the Studio a couple times already, lol. My hair grows fast! By the way, I don't know if it was mentioned in an earlier post but my former employer and favorite watering hole, Bier Markt, will increase its size by approx. 3x w/in the next few months. Restaurant next store in the space the gallery used to occupy and another bar-but more loungey and I think live music space downstairs! All spaces have been drywalled, etc. so be on the lookout in the next few months! It will be a great addition to W 25th! Oh, and I must try Import Haus!!! I'm looking forward to the foreign beverages!
