Cleveland: Filling in Euclid Avenue
Forgive me if this had been addressed but is the United Way next to Idea Center only undergoing a restoration? I know by the looks of the outside it's quite obvious but I just wanted to make sure.

Cleveland: Cuyahoga County Gov't properties disposition (non-Ameritrust)
Yes world, we know...Our leaders are IDIOTS who have no appreciation for design. Chicago is arguably the world home of modern architecture and I can't believe the cault that runs IIT hasn't jumped over here. They saved IIT from shutting down the southside main campus and moving to the burbs almost 2 decades ago and now tour groups of French, German, Asian, and AMerican tourists tour the damn campus everyday (ok so Rem and Helmut buildings are part fo the equation but Mies is just as important). We're replacing what some people call "crap" with a literal piece of crap--at least what we've seen. Come on KPF, you're building the Shanghai Financial Center-can't you do better than what you proposed here?! Anyways... With decisions being made like this (and all of the other half-@ssed crap that goes on here) we'll always be the Value City Furn. and Chicago the Roche Bobois or hell, even Crate and Barrell. AHH!!! I apologize if that was a bit immature but honestly! You all know I'm pro-CLE but those making decisions here are wearing blinders! NYC and Chicago papers-and probably Tokyo too (We just can't read it) are writing about the mistake we're making and "we" don't care. F'in ego trip by Cleveland's leaders. This is only part of it. WRHS is another example but I won't go into that. AHH! I'm done venting because I don't want to write 2 more paragraphs of my rants. Sorry

I remember back when I was a wee little 18 y/o going to Paris for the 1st time (this was WAY back when USAir had a huge hub at PIT) and the gate agents announced, "Bonjour Mesdames et messieurs, bienvenue au vol numero....blah blah blah a destination de Paris Charles de Gaulle..." That's when it really hit me that I was going! I can't wait to hear French in Concourse C!!! CLE needs some cool sound effects for announcements like CDG. They're space-like noises...Kinda cool.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Stairs and elevators are all we need. We don't need to waste precious $$$ on escalators. Maybe it's b/c I'm a "baby" as some of you have said  j/k and have more energy (again, j/k) but it's good exercise! Plus in Chicago, I'd say their escalators work 25% of the time so it's even a bigger waste of $ to fix them. It's always a "treat" when they're actually working!

No I'm 23 and yes I rememer flying widebodies on a 45 min. flight. He is a 747 pilot based out of SFO now but we'd use his companion passes back then and sometimes were bumped b/c of full flights. How times have changed! I remember back when I was 7 and I flew for the first time, we took a DC10 to ORD then a 737 ORD-Ontario, CA. Even back then I thought it was weird to take such a small plane for a 5x flight.

I saw those walls! I couldn't believe it! "Architect" should not be a title used for the person who did that! I don't care if it was a new plaza in Parma, DON'T DO THAT!

Cleveland: Stonebridge Phase 5
3231, I'm sure we don't have the "worst " paper but putting things into perspective, what is Cleveland, what was Cleveland, and what do we want Cleveland to become? I don't know about you but I think we should have higher aspirations than what Detroit, Memphis, or Nashville are doing. Cleveland's so concerned about Columbus, Pittsburgh, Indy, etc...Why don't we set our standards higher like Chicago, Toronto, Boston, or CLEVELAND 60 +/- years ago?!?!?! You know, the 6th City! No more of this, "Well at least we're better than Detroitbusburgh." We're not trying to be copycats but we need to have higher standards if we want this city to be what we all know it can be!

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
Mov2Ohio..."Center of it all?" I think that the current site-about 5 blocks away-is still at the center of it all. True, the TT is a landmark but the entire Public Sq./Group Plan is significant too and both proposed sites bleed into each other. Even if the center moves, I'd hate to see everyone abandon the current establishments 1/4 mile away. And if we're going to say "center of it all", I'd venture to guess that more people know Cleveland for the Rock Hall than the Terminal Tower. God, did anyone watch the NBA playoffs/Finals coverage? I was sick of seeing the Rock Hall!!! The "live" Cleveland street footage was cool but there's more to this city than the Rock Hall.

Cleveland: Filling in Euclid Avenue
MOLLY SHINANIGANS?!?!?!?!? SWEET!!!! J/K! No, really it's good to see investment in Euclid Ave. (Is it your typical Irish-American restaurant?) Michigan Ave. has 2 Bennigans w/ in a few blocks of each other. I really wish someone would buy the Sterling Bldg. (6? story, tannish color brick bldg. across from Wyndham) and tear it down! . Union Club, empty parking lot, and demo'd Sterling Bldg. could be a hot block.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
Yes, MyTwoSense--I agree and that's what I meant in my earlier post today. Today's article-ESPECIALLY the image was the poorest representation of MM that anyone or anything could have created! The first couple public floors of MM are gorgeous with designer showrooms. In simplest sense, it's a mall for interiors, not some crammed warehouse like the PD graphic indicates. Why would anyone in their rightmind believe that a medical MM is critical for Cleveland-and that Chicago's MM is something to write home about-based on the graphic? Oh, and Cleveland doesn't have the appeal of a metropolis??? WTF?!?! Megalopolis we aren't (although some may argue that) but metropolis I think we are... I also didn't know that Chicago, Boston, and NYC have great weather, gambling and notorious beaches! I missed the boat again! Geez, thank you media for the update... Again, leave it to the PD to take something good (cleveland and the MM concept) and totally skew it to become something completely different. Why am I complaining to all of you?

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
If the city's leaders want the public to embrace this project...MORE SO the $.25/$100 tax increase, THEY NEED AN ACCURATE REPRESENTATION of Chicago's MM!!! :x What the hell were those pathetic 1994 computer looking renderings?!?!?!?! And who the hell approved those? That is nothing like Chicago's MM showrooms. That rendering made Value City Furniture look like it's better than MM! AAHH!! Preachin' to the choir huh?!

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
There was an article in the PD today about airport delays this summer. A couple weeks ago, there was an article about how Hopkins ranked high in delayed flights. The PD did an amazing job  at leaving out an important point that perhaps we had a bunch of delays because there are approx. 200 +/- arriving and departing flights every day betwen CLE and Chicago's airports and the major Bos-Wash airports. Those cities' airports are notorious for delays and while it's true that we might "technically" have delays, let's not attribute them to CLE. Anyways, we all know CLE is a breeze but some much needed/wanted growth will only do good for the airport and region.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
Good news! Trader Joe's and Whole Foods back in Chicago usualy have 3-5 different flavors for sale. Is this the case in every location or just the stores around the Great Lakes? Anyways, I just moved into my new apt. at Fulton Pl. and Lorain! The cute blue house with pink trim. I love it and I'm soooooo glad to be in the city! I haven't even been home from IIT for one month and I had to leave Brunstucky! Has there ever been word about possibly developing the corner with the gas station/thrift store and the Hollywood video corner? It'd be nice to see a couple 5-6 story res. bldgs. with street retail there.

Cleveland: Cuyahoga County Gov't properties disposition (non-Ameritrust)
God, I REALLY hate how the commissioners use the, "they're not elected, they're appointed therefore their opinions shouldn't matter" line everyday when talking about the planning commission!!! Like I said earlier, while the commissioners are elected, no one gives two sh*ts about their architecture/urban design standpoints during the campaigns. FYI, if you go to the Ingenuity website, the Breuer charette has been extended until July 6th. I think it'd be fun to submit something. What's up with Cleveland's "big wigs"? Monkey see monkey do, huh?

Cleveland: Cuyahoga County Gov't properties disposition (non-Ameritrust)
My opinion in this case may be a bit biased since I was brainwashed with Mies for 5 years at IIT but I think that it will be a huge mistake to replace this building with any of the crap we've seen so far in the little PD thumbnail photos. Here are my rants/viewpoints: IIT had plans to move from the Bronzeville/Bridgeport to the burbs in the early '90s. The neighborhood was very rough and the buildings served (and looked) as bunkers for all of the students, faculty, and staff. Since I started in the fall of 2002 through spring 2007, major renovations/restorations have taken place and currently are underway for many of Mies' and Mies' friends buildings. Crown Hall, the world's biggest thermal bridge (ie not very energy efficient) had its own extreme makeover and is probably more pristine now than it ever was (in addition to being much more efficient). It's an "eyesore" because it's vacant and a little tarnished. This isn't about money! It's about restoring and preserving an important piece of Cleveland's rich urban fabric. Saving $10 million is not worth replacing this building with John Doe-Generic's design. EGO TRIP TO THE MAX! Clean it, fix it, USE IT! Another thing, 2 of the 3 county commissioners act like they know what's best just because they were elected...OMG I'm sorry but the last thing anyone cares about during their campaigns are their design aesthetics. Their idea of an attractive building is the Hilton Garden Inn on Carnegie. God, look at their hair, tie, and shirt combo and you'll see what they think looks good... I think, as a compromise, the building should be restored and floor plates of the facades with all granite tiles can expand. The extension can be skinned in a very transparent, simple glass curtain wall. Maybe the extension can rise another 15 or so stories about the current building. This allows for the space requirements and "new" factor the county wants but also displays our maturity in appreciating such a unique, one of a kind building and adapting it to our current needs and environmental responsibility. The thing that gets me, is how "we" (as a people) say that this is an ugly, environmentally dangerous, inefficient, etc. building and have the nerve to present the suburb worthy proposals as its replacement. Honestly people! Ugly??? Since when is beauty black/white. Environment??? No, tearing it down and the process of producing the components of the building and constructing the new bldg. will not harm the environment at all. Inefficient??? Uhh, where do most of the employees come from?? The burbs?? Birthplace of inefficiency!!! Like many of you have already stated, elbow grease and people would make this building 1000x times more accepted by the public and commissioners. We didn't learn by demolishing Euclid Ave or the Warehouse District have we?? When will we get it? Hell, if Nimes, France can take a Roman Colosseum and insert an arena with ice rink on the interior, then we sure as hell can take this building and make use of it today with some sort of extension. I'm done. FRIDAY :drunk: :drunk:

The scary thing about the PD's nature is how it rubs off on the locals. Read the article on Cleveland.com about the .25% sales tax increase and see the jack asses that responded to the article. Yeah, Cleveland, the "sh*thole" that is already is , is going to die an even quicker death because your $100.00 purchase that previously cost $107.50 with tax will now cost you $107.75. If these people are that f'in cheap, good ridance and stay in Florida!!! :shoot: :shoot: BTW, I didn't call Cleveland a sh*thole, I was just mimicking some of the naysayers out there.
