  1. We don't even know if it's vandercar... All that has been reported has been purely based off unconfirmed reports in the biz journal article and in the enquirer article..
  2. I'm a little lost with some of these reactions... It's been well known that it's been the highest of priorities for Hamilton County and 3CDC to expand the convention center, to replace the terrible Millennium Hotel and expand the hotel capacity rate all while allowing guests to experience a quality convention hotel. It sounds like everything is in place for all of this to happen in the very near future but instead it's full of alarm and concern....I know the developer draws concern, but it's pretty clear that this property will become part of the expanded Convention center and a connected convention hotel...So I'm not understanding the remaining concern?
  3. If the plan is to build an expanded convention center and new convention hotel with high room capacity i would have to imagine it would probably reach a similar if not a bit taller than the millenium.
  4. Let's be honest, a downtown Walmart would be the biggest development seen in the downtown urban core in the past 15 years.
  5. I believe if I'm not mistaken its 3cdc and the Port Authority. Im fairly confident that what might happen in that 3cdc builds a mixed use development with a smaller capacity name brand hotel...They complete that project and then the Millennium Hotel would be demolished for the expansion of the convention center and the new convention hotel. I just don't think it would be in the convention best interest to go 2 plus years without an immediate replace for the hotel capacity lost by the millennium.
  6. https://www.cincinnati.com/story/money/2019/08/08/local-developer-rob-smyjunas-negotiating-contract-buy-millennium-which-would-demolished-future-devel/1953646001/ This latest article makes it sound like the plan is indeed to expand the convention center with the millennium lot and then build a new convention hotel above the expansion.
  7. Would this concept presumably impact the skyline more than the millennium hotel did?
  8. Construct a super elevator platform that has the ability to transport thousands of guests at a tjme, and build the convention center suspended in the sky. All the free space imaginable.
  9. Wasn't the article a while back stating that the plan is to add a ground floor cafe/restaurant and a rooftop bar terrace?
  10. That would be more ideal imo anyways. Use that empty lot for a mixed use development and bring a cluster of commercial space that can directly serve the convention center guests. Bring office space/residential on top of the commercial space to really enhance pedestrian activity. I complained about this a few months while visiting the convention center about how you have such a strong flow of pedestrians coming in an out for various conventions but a severe lack of retail/cafes/resturaunts to directly see these guests.
  11. Any elaboration as to why it's a terrible plan?
  12. So convention center expands into the millennium lot site and then 3cdc will build a new convention hotel on the current large empty lot? If that's the case, why did 3cdc remove the RFP?
  13. So what will become of the empty lots across the convention center? Would this mean that the millennium property gets redeveloped and the surround lot becomes some sort of mixed use development? I really hope 3cdc has something planned, that entire stretch of ugly parking garages and empty parking lot craters is such an eyesore for first time visitors to witness.
  14. How is that affordable? If your making 20$ an hour (which is roughly 40-45k a year, maybe have a gf/wife who is making a similar amount with a child) that's not nearly enough to cover expenses for housing, bills, cars payments, health insurance, groceries, day care services etc. 50-60k combined salary is definitely middle class range and there are plenty of folks living in Loveland and deer Park who are able to thrive quite well. I honestly can't understand how they would afford otr
  15. OTR still lacks a fluid community of rich, middle class and poor. They are striving for mixed use but the honest truth is that you have 2 types of people living in otr....the people that are living well above the poverty and the people that are living wellllllll below. Creating a middle class in otr would buffer the Stark contrast of those who are parking their Luxery cars in their condo parking garage, and those who can't afford a car and must rely on bus transportation or walking. Obviously creating more dense projects would allow for the middle class to creep in but the rental prices are still so intense.
  16. 100 percent sure certain this can't be saved? The structure, aside from the roof doesn't look that bad?
  17. Might as well still be dead...unless you live close to Harrison OH, not alot of people will make the trek to play board games. I'm guessing Zak didn't have a buyer for the otr bar and is essentially letting the game board concept permenantly die, which is a shame considering how unique it was.
  18. So what does it take for downtown Cincy to get what the Kenwood Collections all set in one building? At the moment the collections tower has; Crunch Fitness Envision Cinema Whole Foods Old Navy L.L Bean Crate and Barrel Mitchell Day Salon Cycle Bar Olio Italiano Guy Kaku Japanese BBQ Pies and Pints Matt the Miller Tavern Every time I drive by the tower it doesn't seem like it's stores alot of square feet but uses multiple floors and uses the space quite wisely. I just don't get why a developer has pursued an entertainment mixed use tower like this yet downtown? Is there just still a large lack of residents in the urban core for a developer to reasonably pursue something like this?
  19. Huh I've walked by that lot many times...you would think such a historically significant place would at least deserve some type of statue highlighting the history behind that parking lot.
  20. Its funny because I'm fairly certain that some of the people who took part in creating the new guidelines are members here on urban ohio. I wonder if they can speak up and share their reasoning.
  21. You don't want nightclubs....You want genuine community bars that have a large enough floor plan to convert into a club like setting on the weekends. Unless we are talking legit Las Vegas strip like clubs that are 3 levels with 8 bars, a rooftop lounge with a pool, and rotation of famous international DJs playing every weekend..... Otherwise you will end up with the standard definition of a Midwest club with blacked out windows, and only operate on Friday and Saturday for like maybe 6-8 hours of the night.
  22. I see. Interesting...Did 3cdc just hire better architects? I'm just confused by the leap in quality in design. Much of the infill looks modern yet blends so we'll into the environment without sticking out like a sore thumb.
  23. Random question...with federal reserve lowering interest rates does this mean it would be more feasible for developers to pursue more development projects?
  24. Im actually quite shockes by how good some of this infill looks...is this based off the new infill guide lines? I'm confused why otr is finally getting good looking infill after years and years of pure crap.
  25. Can someone do a mock up rendering with the addition of the 235 feet office building and the music venue...I also know that the new Skystar will reach above 200 feet as well
