Cincinnati: Downtown: Development and News
I'm genuinely curious how those small businesses inside the building managed to survive for as long as they did. I have to imagine there is a gross amount of money laundering going on within a wide array of businesses in the CBD...you look at some of these businesses and they look like a rambled shack with broken glass and if you look out the window it looks as if a hoarder occupies the space. It just blows my mind.

Cincinnati: Random Development and News
It's the same deal in the suburbs. Most of the new apartment complexes are luxury..look at the apartments at summit park in blue ash, or the Loveland station apartments...it's extremely tough nowadays to find a quality living space for less than 1,000/per month these days. My friend lives in an out dated 1 bed room apartment in Loveland that was built in the early 80s. His rent is nearly 900/per month for 700 square feet and out dated amenities. The rental market is just insanely expensive nowadays. I'm not sure how lower income families survive to be honest.. especially those who live in the suburbs.

Is it easier maybe for a developer to get financing/roi for a project if it's luxury apartments/versus more affordable units?

Does anyone have a rendering of how a 17 story building would look like on the skyline?

I'm assuming the design will change once more? I remember the previous rendering being quite hideous.

Cincinnati: Pendleton: Development and News
Isn't shot spotter just a general good rule of thumb to have in an urban environment? From what I understand its a great tool for the police when crimes do occur. Also, I feel like I follow downtown news alot and rarely hear about pendelton shootings...they happen, sure, but I still feel like that pendelton is exponentially more safe than parts of north of liberty.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
Couldn't (many years down the road) someone buy the building and reconfigure the single family home and turn into say a building with 2-3 apartments? I'm just wondering how easily you can reconfigure these single family homes into a few apartments way down the road? Regardless, I always yearn for density on empty lots, but at the same time empty grassy lots look horrible in a urban environment, especially in a historic district. I'm glad, even though they uninspired faux buildings, they add some more, "teeth", to the urban fabric.

Shootings? I wasn't aware that there were too many shootings in Pendelton?

In photo 4 with the race street infill, I had to take a double look because I didn't realize those new faux Italianatte homes were actually infill at first.

Cincinnati Reds Discussion
I'm all about for forgiveness...that said he is an Adult and should have known better. There is no excuses. Absolutely none. I think he is a great broadcaster but there should be 0 tolerance for this kind of language. He knows that and everyone is the reds organization knows that. He screwed himself and his career. It sucks, but it is what it is.

https://www.wlwt.com/article/police-1-dead-in-downtown-cincinnati-shooting-near-public-library/33650893 Man gunned down by the Downtown Public Library during the afternoon. Question for urban downtown residents on Urban Ohio. How is living downtown at the moment? Does it feel safe? Or do you feel like you have to take extra precautions nowadays with the extreme spike in violence the urban core is experiencing? I'm just curious what it's like?

This is why I low-key wish to move to Europe/Asia one day. I love urban centers, but a vast majority of US urban centers have so many underlying issues. I've been to alot of major cities across the world..Toronto, Montreal, Vienna, Paris, Budapest, Hong Kong, Beijing, etc. Walking alone at night in these cities is actually relaxing and peaceful. Sure you might run into a homeless person, but the vast majority of the time they ignore you completely. I wish I could say I am able to walk alone around Cincinnati at night, or Chicago at night or any other city in the US. But unfortunately you can't. You have to constantly be on guard. It sucks that we have such huge underlying problems with poverty in our urban cores that really makes it difficult at times to enjoy the sense of being in an urban environment.

They probably don't see Cincinnati as a viable market. It's been like this for a multitude of chains that don't see Cincy as viable or healthy to introduce their chain.

Any word on what is going on with the ferris wheel by the banks? I know back in February the deal was signed with Hamilton county to get the new ferris wheel constructed...I sort of miss it's presence and I hope this project is still slated to happen.

It's more anecdotal stories than anything. I have quite a few friends that live downtown/otr....many of them have stated that they are not going to renew their lease...partially due to the economic conditions and rent not reflecting the economic downturn in the urban core...and the second aspect is not feeling safe anymore. Before the late night bar hopping/bachelorette party crowds at otr/the banks/reds games would buffer out the sketchyness...but with all of that gone its very difficult to do simple tasks like walk the dogs late at night or get groceries without consistently being targeted for money/items...and from what I understand it's not a simple, "can you spare some change" pan handling but rather it's a, " I want to see your mobile bank account and I won't stop following you until you walk over to an atm and give me some cash." Again, I'm sure everyone experiences will differ. I'm sure overall that your likelihood of becoming a victim is very low...but I can understand why downtown could feel much more, "intimidating" now, especially with exponentially less street traffic and many businesses temporarily closed.

https://www.wlwt.com/article/police-airbnb-property-manager-beaten-shot-in-the-back-in-pendleton/33617520 When will the violence end? Property manager at a Pendleton property goes to break up a party and gets beaten and shot in the back. I've never seen it be this bad in Cincinnati in all my years of living This is truly scary stuff. I hope the urban residents are staying safe in these crazy dangerous times.
