Cincinnati: West End: TQL Stadium
My point was that the fcc stadium will be deemed historic simply because of age and partially design. Historic is relative right? A structure that existed 100 years ago is historic to us, but to those who lived 100 years ago it was just another structure that reflected the times. The future generation of Cincinnati will see the fcc stadium as historic because it will reflect Cincinnati and what it was 100 years ago. Same goes for suburban strip malls. The beauty of history is not necessarily the architecture, but rather the ability to see a glimpse of the past. It’s all relative. We are the future, we are the past. We are time. Time is one.

Cincinnati: West End: TQL Stadium
So we should be even more vigilant about saving what's left. No need to just scrape everything clean if it's not really necessary. Agree to disagree. I find otr appealing because of its cohesiveness. It feels like entering a mini Europe with historic buildings every which way you look. The buildings in the West End are literally islands, surrounded by parking lots, empty grassy lots filled with broken liquor bottles, and new structure like the cps school, Stargell stadium, the police station etc. Again, I would fight tooth and nail against this stadium if it meant sacrificing the likes of otr/Pendleton even stretches of the old West End. But we are fighting for is a few historic gems surrounded by an oasis of trash. Also, When the fcc stadium is built it will be the equivalent to Crosley Field in that 100 years, no matter how it looks it will be deemed historic and something that future generations will try to preserve.

Cincinnati: West End: TQL Stadium
If they end up leveling everything in sight I do wish they would have gone to Oakley There's barely anything in the area of the stadium to level. Right. Some are acting like fcc is plopping the stadium right in the smack of Pendleton and destroying every historic structure in a 1 mile radius. That stretch of West End was wiped away from its historic stock decades ago.

If they end up leveling everything in sight I do wish they would have gone to Oakley So essentially what was already occurring in the West End due to decades of neglect and lack of investment? The only narrative that would change if fcc chose Oakley is that these old historic buildings would’ve been razed due to emergency demo.

Cincinnati: West End: TQL Stadium
Reading this thread makes me depressed. Just so much speculation and unfounded negativity. We don’t know what fcc is planning, but there is nothing but conspiracy theories about what they might do. I say let’s hold off and be patient and be optimistic and hope for the best. Regardless of what happens, I’m glad that fcc is in the West End rather than say Newport or Oakley. I’m sure it will benefit the area to some extent...it’s just so dooms day here without any actual evidence to discuss.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
Update on the Columbia building on Walnut. 3cdc updated there projects, and added the Columbia building project recently. This is the exert; https://www.3cdc.org/project/the-columbia/ I'm excited for this project. It will hopefully liven walnut st a bit more, and push out the few remaining drug dealers that still try to deal on that corner for whatever reason to suburban families.

Cincinnati: Restaurant News & Info
troeros replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentZundo, the authentic Japanease Ramen Resturaunt and Donburi is officially opening in OTR this Friday. The owner is also the same owner of Mei's in Montgomery, and will also feature a full service sake bar. It will be located a few doors down from Queen City Radio, and will be open until 2:30 am on Friday and Saturday to serve the late night drunk crowd. If reddit reaction is anything to go by, I am imagining this place will be packed this weekend. The hype for this place to finally open in OTR has been like no other restaurant I've seen for OTR.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Blonde (Eighth & Main)
Can someone remind me what the proposed 6th and Sycamore project was supposed to be? I don't ever recall hearing about that project.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
So it appears from what I’ve learned is that the hcb called for the developers of 12th and sycamore to go back to the drawing boards and involve more community engagement for this project. I think that this could be a good thing and a good call from the hcb. The current design of this project is quite horrendous tbh for the historic district.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
There was a hcb meeting today at 10:30 am about the 12th and Sycamore project, any updates on what the board said about the design?

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
Also, a 5 story mixed use building, with (I believe ground floor retail) was proposed for 1518 Race St (the vacant lot right next to the church on race). Its in the latest HCB....Definitely feel like development is speeding along quite well in OTR as of late.

Any idea when that yes/no vote is to occur??

Cincinnati: Random Development and News
So What is happening at 9th and Elm? Apperantly there will be a hearing for feedback on a new inill development project for the lot adjacent to the historic structure.

Cincinnati: West End: TQL Stadium
I think I understand to an extent what rj is saying...we are so of ocd about certain historical structures on urban Ohio, almost to a fault. I full heartedly believe that cities aren’t museums, and that not every structure that is old is also equivalent to being historic and valuable. I do believe we must focus on a balance between planning for the future, but also respecting the past....to some extent at least...

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
It was in the HCB packet over a year ago. The design has already been approved by the board. It will nice to eventually see Pleasant St become fully revitalized...I hope the idea to make Plesant St a woonerf still occurs. Would make a nice pedestrian stroll from Washington Park to Findley Market.

Cleveland: Historic Photos
Looking back at these old photos, it feels like Cleveland was on track to become a mini chicago of sorts....damn urban renewal and freeways, and economic collpase!

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
I don't understand why some are so eager to have the Bengals move...regardless if they move or not, I believe the bengals are an asset to this city. Tourists flock to support their away teams, and you get alot of national recognition in regards to the NFL. It's still a massively popular sport, and cities that host nfl teams are still considered elite cities. NFL, and the NBA are still the 2 powerhouse sports leagues in this country. Even the most casual fan, living in the most rural town in the middle of no where will know about Cincinnati and the Bengals. I think that's a good thing.... I understand it's somewhat silly, but having cincy host 3 major league sports teams should been seen as an honor. The last thing you want is to be a Louisville, aka a, "minor league" sports town. All, "elite", first tier cities have sports teams in every category of sports (aside from Seattle, but they will get a NHL team soon). My hope is that, maybe, one day, our city can continue to expand and grow, and one day attract a developer willing to spend on a world class Arena downtown and hopefully attract a NHL or NBA team as well...

East Cleveland: News & Discussion
That's sad.^^ East Cleveland has some real character and charming architecture...Demolishing these vacant homes for grassy vacant lots seems like a minimal upgrade at best. It reminds me of when things in Over the Rhine got so bad after the riots in the early 2000's, that there was talks about razing the entire historical neighborhood outright and start fresh again....I hope that doesn't become the case...

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
This is question based from curiosity...but you see large cities constantly have outside investors/real estate developers from predominant countries like China/Israel/Russia, etc...obviously these outside investors and developers play a large role in shaping the growth and density of these cities. My question, if OTR is poised to be amongst the top 5 traveled historic districts in America (which I eventually predict occurring once north of liberty is gentrified in 15-20 years), do we see all of this done by local investors leading the way? Or will foreign investors begin taking the lead for otr eventual phase 2?

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
I agree that for the time being the Parkhaus garage serves a purpose, and is unoffensive compared to some of the other eyesore garages in the cbd. My whole point was that with the massive lots, on top of the ugly tree house bar/otr live structure, on top of the parkhaus garage, much of sycamore street needs appropriate infill that can reconnect OTR and Pendelton into one cohesive fabric. Granted, I'm sure that's still 10-15 years out until we can fully achieve that, but it will nice to see that border shrink with those lots being infilled with new mixed use to begin with.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
Because above ground parking garages sucks? How is it not any different than Pogue Garage on 4th st? If we can take a dedicated parking structure and turn into mixed use with ground floor retail and above ground residential and office units then we should.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
Sounds like it would be easier for 3cdc to purchase that building in that case and demolish/redevelop the land.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
Any idea who owns the Park Haus garage? Again, if this proposed mixed use development on the sycamore lots contains any parking structures I have to imagine the park haus garage days are over.

Columbus Crew Discussion
I will miss the crew. I hope they will be saved. It would have been a fun interstate rivalry with FCC traveling to Mapfre/columbus fans traveling down to OTR...now Chicago (in a suburban stadium no less that's a nightmare to get to), maybe Nashville (if they even approve the stadium deal with the fairgrounds) are the only close-ish nearby away options for traveling fans? Kinda sucks tbh, and doesn't benefit the league whatsoever. Sad.
