  1. I think the issue with the proposed race st garage is that it would have hindered people actually walking around otr and exploring otr. I wasn’t opposed to the idea, tbh. But I could see the concern of over saturation of parking garages and essentially catering to the visiting suburbanites coming for the bars and restaurants
  2. Saw this brought up on the Cincinnati subreddit....What ever happened with Neons finding a new otr space? There were articles published about this in December of 2016, and the owner gave comments about about how they were commited to the Neons brand and that they would still continue Neons elsewhere in otr...but that never happened.

It makes sense. That area has lots of foot traffic and more people on the street make the area safer. OTR south of Liberty isn't a very big area whereas the CBD is. There are parts of the CBD that are just as if not more safe the OTR south of Liberty but there are other areas that are completely dead. Just a couple weeks ago I was walking home down Vine St and walked past someone clearly od'ing on the sidewalk between Court and 9th. Their drug addict friend was on a cell probably trying to call 911 to get her resuscitated. That stretch of Vine from Court to 8th is completely dead with barely any street lights. And there are plenty of other dead parts of the CBD as well where homeless/addicts hangout and live. I’m glad 3cdc will soon begin focusing less on otr and begin focusing more on the cbd. When you walk around otr (especially the revitalized areas) you feel like you are in a different city all together. There are shops on every corner, bars, restaurants, crowds of pedestrians. There is life on the streets. Parts of CBD are a crumbling mess, and it’s sort of shocking that it has gotten to this point. Dead streets, vacant store fronts, literally row of homeless camps. What the hell happened? It’s just extreme night and day between these 2 areas of the city. Extremely stark contrast. Aside from 3cdc, no one else is really investing in the cbd. I don’t get why. This has really hurt the cbd imo. I’m not sure why otr will have a flock of developers, but the cbd is the lonely step child that no one wants to talk to. Even the street car line has done more for revitalizing otr than it has for the cbd.

Honestly, and this might trigger some people (and thinking about the state of otr even 10 years ago), but I’d argue that south of liberty is now safer than portions of the cbd at night...and that blows my mind.

Are we SF of the mid west in terms of homeless population versus our current city size? For instance I know Chicago probably have more homeless but they are also a larger city. For the size of Cincy and the amount of homeless I’ve seen and the amount of camps it makes you think we have probably the higher homeless ratio for a city of our size. Again, it’s weird. Cost of living in cincy is one of the lowest in the us, our unemployment rate has been pretty low as well...Again, the heroin drug trade has been prevelant here but it’s affected many other cities as well. I’m just curious why cincy is becoming a homeless hub, the sf of the Midwest.

That’s a possibility. Most of the pan handlers I’ve encountered are fine folks, and don’t bother you...but some of them truly take things to far. I’ve seen them stalk pedestrians and yell for money. You see the cop sirens in that area a lot as well for whatever’s reason to. I see them a lot when I go down to the banks at night. It’s a tricky situation for sure, and I have sympathy for those that are effected, but that said it’s a very visible part of our downtown and creates a horrible look for our city. It makes it seem like cincy is a 3rd world country of sorts, and I’m sure this effects some people in wanting to visit or even live downtown. They need to be relocated in my opinion.

I know every city differs but when I was in Columbus I noticed very few homeless downtown... but in cincy you have whole tent cities and streets filled with them. Where the heck are they all coming from?
  8. I noticed earlier today by Vine St, that the krukemeyer building ground floor is being used for the construction HQ for the new 15th and vine project. I also noticed construction vehicles on the gravel lot as well. It seems like 3cdc is eager to get this infill project off the ground fast.
  9. How would this affect density in otr? Was parking requirements really an issue for density before? I was under the impression developers just weren’t interested in creating more dense unit housing.
  10. Thank god! Parking Requirements rule will go away by August for new businesses/housing development in OTR. Was such a stupid requirement and thank god level heads prevail.
  11. I think it's a pretty powerful sign when you see long time suburban chefs recognize the revitalized dining scene of OTR.
  12. OTR isn’t cheap either. Your talking 300k for 1 bedroom in most cases. You can get a lot more value in other neighborhoods for that much money...it’s clear otr is being paved for a certain class of people who want certain life style amenities.
  13. So here is what I learned, finally.... The project is still a go, and is ready for a 2019 start date. The funding is finalized and allocated for the project. The other update that was discussed is that when the street diet occurs and fcc begins play in 2021, cars will not be allowed to park on liberty street 3 hours before, nor 2 hours after a soccer match.
  14. Probably no more or less of a sign when people were migrating away from OTR and were moving to Northside instead...
  15. I haven’t posted about it here, but I resigned from the OTRCC at the end of March and completed a move from OTR to Westwood in June. I haven’t heard what the update entails except that there is one. Ah I see. Well if you manage to ask your fellow ex council friends and find out what the update was, that would be much appreciated!
  16. I believe thebillshark is on the otr community council...do we still not have any info on what the liberty st road diet update was that took place?
  17. Question for those who are more familiar with NYC/Brooklyn. With all of this rapid development, especially in Brooklyn, how is this changing the character of the neighborhood? From what I recall, Brooklyn was always sort of this, "Old historic throwback" neighborhood. With all of these new skyscrapers, it's almost as if a 2nd Manhattan is growing in brooklyn. I've also tried to keep track of the development, and seems like historic stock is being demolished as well which is unfortunate (but I guess necessary for advanced growth)...But I guess my ultimate question is how has this changed the historic character of brooklyn?
  18. I feel like that Vine north of liberty will be tough. Most of the blocks north of vine are still very much intact, and seem that there are more historic building stock compared to race/elm/plesant, but many of the buildings are in rough shape. Definitely a bit different compared to south of vine where you had way more empty lots, which allowed 3cdc to kickstart development with various parking garages, and mixed use development.
  19. Whatever happened to the plan of rehabbing the units above the findley market shops, and creating new residential above the findley market shops?
  20. Can anyone clarify this. As pointed out before, 3cdc is planning to build a parking garage behind (the eventual demolished) Kroger site on Vine, facing walnut st. My question is, isn’t that land owned by the Wades? Does this mean they sold some of their parcels to 3cdc? Or maybe I’m confusing all of this, and this won’t actually occupy the walnut parcel, but rather just occupy where that red warehouse looking structure is...
  21. Mt adams business district will definitiely transition soon to very a small and quaint sleepy area. The public transportation to get to mt Adams sucks. Barely anywhere to park. Otr also fills many of the nightlife voids and has many parking options and easier to get to if you are college student at uc. Mt Adams needs a serious revamp of its neighborhood if it wants to be a destination again...it’s still in this mindset of catering to suburbans who were once upon a time to afraid to travel and party downtown.
  22. Spaces leases office at 15th & Vine - Cincinnati Business Courier https://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2018/07/06/exclusive-huge-coworking-space-coming-to-over-the.html?ana=RSS&s=article_search They will be leasing the entire upper floor from what I understand. Also, long time Hyde Park retailor, world of beads, is moving to 1429 Vine st. 3cdc leasing team is simply killing it right now.
  23. Celestial Steakhouse in Mt Adams is closing. Business after business mt Adams is beginning to die.
  24. Whats the crime like in Walnut Hills? For whatever reason, I'll hear alot about shootings/homicide in OTR/West End/Price Hill, maybe occasionally Clifton/mt auburn...but generally speaking I don't really hear that much about crime in walnut hills? Not sure if that would be a factor that would allow Walnut Hills to be quickly gentrified because the perception is not as bad than the perception that OTR once had....
  25. Was it low income housing before then?
