  1. There are some "hip" advancements in agriculture and state-level government operations, I guess. I'll agree that Columbus has had more job growth than Cleveland in recent years, but I've never heard of Columbus, OH being perceived by anyone as a 'hip' city, especially when compared to Cleveland. If I had to rank the 3C's--it would be CLE, Cinci, Columbus. I love Cincy and Cleveland both, especially Cincy (I live here after all). But among my peer group (late 20s, early 30s) Columbus is definitely seen as the most hip of the three, hands down. It's really not even close. It's a hot destination for young professionals from all over the Midwest and even the east coast. When I lived on the east coast and said I was from Ohio I often heard people saying they wanted to check out Columbus because they've heard good things. That was never the case with Cincy or Cleveland unfortunately. The old "cow town" reputation of Cbus is pretty unknown among people under 35 I'd say. Interesting...again I love the diversity of the pedestrians on the Columbus streets...but I’m curious what makes Columbus more hip? I found that a lot of what short north had wasn’t that different than otr/Pendleton has (as far as the density of bars and over priced restaurants are concerned) ...expect short north is way father gentrified than otr. To me, what made the area seem hip was the people, and from many of them that I talked to were students at osu.
  2. Walking up and down short north you will see this hip vibe. Musicians on the street, a lot of pedestrians of different back grounds and diversity. Food trucks on a lot of blocks, a lot of eclectic shops/dive bars, a lot of late night food options (loved cluck a doodle do by the udf convience store). My car got towed on short north and didn’t end up leaving till 6am because I had difficulties finding a working arm. But even super late at night I noticed there were still crowds on the street, musicians playing street music, food trucks bustling...and all of this was like at 4 am. Funny enough some of the areas of short north did look a little sketchy (mainly because of the vacant grassy lot and some of then older buildings looked in bad shape)...and the main guy who was at shamrock towing was saying to our group how worried for us when we left and how he keeps a revolver by his side at all times because of the crime. He said there were 9 gun shots across the street. I didn’t really get any high crime vibe. The area felt less sketchy than OTR for example.
  3. I’m sorry. I’m just sharing my opinion. I spent the entire day in Columbus, and checked out as many, “must see” areas as I could with my friends. I love the young vibe that Columbus has. But it seems that energy is extremely concentrated in the short north area/campus district area. When you travel farther away from that area the rest of downtown Columbus seems quiet dead in comparison. In cincy, it sort of reminded me of Clifton gas light district/Northside and a smidge of otr on steroids. Great atmosphere. But very concentrated and felt very catered for osu student population.
  4. Based on this comment, it sounds like the last time you visited Columbus was at least 10 years ago. I was there for the first time last Saturday. I think Columbus was fun, since I’m still in that age range of being a college student...
  5. I don’t get Columbus...the central business district is for the most part dead, with many vacant lots. The short north neighborhood is great, but everything around that general area feels catered to osu students. Columbus definitely gave me the feeling of a college town that has transitioned into a college city of sorts. Columbus is great I’ll admit and has a unique vibe (thanks in part to the osu student body)...but there is something that makes you feel “old” and, “out of place” when walking around the streets of Columbus.
  6. https://cin.ci/2zdgkZc “Cleveland-Elyria, Toledo and the Youngstown area the three Ohio regions that are among the places that have had the largest net decline in population as a result of migration between 2010 and 2017, according to a 24/7 Wall Street review of population figures from the U.S. Census Bureau’s Population Estimates Program.“ What’s going on in Cleveland?
  7. So has anyone heard anything on about what was said during the community council meeting?
  8. I knew quite a few Breweries that include pizza shops inside of there brewery....mad tree being one of the them...I’m surprised Rheingeist doesn’t do this through.
  9. The latest hcb had info on rehab of 1626 walnut st and a roof top deck addition, and the rehab of a historic garage on Findlay st and turning it into a bar/restaurant.
  10. Thank god that building is hideous!
  11. 3cdc has officially announced they have begun work today on the Meiner and Behleb block of buildings by Kroger. They are starting to unbrick the windows as we speak.
  12. Hopefully the funding is there to get this project started next year

If your a fan of your smaller market home town team, I would have no idea why you would be excited for next season or the next few seasons of your local nba team. The super team dynamic has made the finals matchup predictable and boring. Everything about the nba, aside from the glorious talent of a few players like Lebron, Curry, Durant, etc is what still makes the nba still watchable.
  14. For 1505 - 1507 Vine...opposite side from Kroger. The large lot next to the recently renovated building with the blue bay windows.

I feel bad for the Memphis, Milwaukee, Cleveland, Charlotte, Portland, and other smaller market teams. The nba has become largely irrelevant thanks to super teams. I imagine the nba will have to implement a league rule that would ban the construction of super teams...it’s just super unbalanced and uninteresting at this point.
  16. Apperantly 15th and vine renderings have already been done and the otr community council has already reviewed them..hopefully we will see the rendering in the hcb packet soon.

Is Cleveland more of a basketball town or a baseball town? I’ve heard varying answers to that... Or is it more of being a a LeBron fan versus being a cavs fan.

The iconic LeBron James Wall advertisement will be taken down this week Nike confirmed.
  19. Even so, a tourist destination doesn’t have the monstrosity that is liberty street. It’s hard for pedestrians to cross from south of liberty to north of liberty. It’s not just appealing, and tourist destinations have “things” that are appealing.
  20. Jose Garcia did a rendering of a hotel/office/residential structure for the large race and liberty lot. He posted it on his Instagram around November of last year. Not sure why Jose did a full rendering for 3cdc if they are paving it into a parking lot...unles 3cdc is purposely waiting for the liberty street diet to occur first.
  21. I think the city leaders will ultimately do whats in 3cdc best interest. It's in 3cdc best interst to narrow liberty st for various economic reasoning that will benefit 3cdc.
  22. Jose Garcia had a proposed project in conjunction with 3cdc for a hotel at race and liberty. I'm sure at some point we will see a hotel in otr, if not a few hotels. Traveling fans from portland/seattle/atlanta/toronto will stay in otr, arrive on thursday or a friday, go on the game on saturday, and stay for the weekend till sunday night. Your exposing more tourists from across the nation to otr, they will not be staying just a few hours, but rather 2-3 days. They will be spending there money towards OTR bars, cafes, restaurants, ride the street car, and support the local economy. Many of the newly built MLS stadiums have also hosted MLS All Star games. There is no doubt Cincinnati will be on the short list once the stadium is completed. That means we will have potentially upwards of 20,000 tourists from across the US and Canada, staying in OTR, spending money in OTR and potentially being exposed to OTR for the very first time. The key aspect in all of this, is that for many of these traveling fans, this will be there first exposure to Cincinnati, and OTR as well. This is a great opportunity for Cincinnati and OTR to have more exposure across the nation, and perhaps some of these fans will return to cincinnati because they have fell in love with our city. This is a great opportunity. Yet, we are still continuing to argue that this stadium is a bad thing? WTF is wrong with this sub forum. Jesus.

Sucks for the image of the cavs. A lot of fans across the country rooted for Cleveland solely for LeBron. Constant coverage on every sporting network as well. Now the cavs are back to being ignored.
  24. This board (at least the Southwest section of Cincy) has a tendency to be extremely negative and depressing that it is sometimes hard to be here at times. I’m only 22, so maybe it’s more of a millennial, hope is eternal type of mentality, but it’s almost as if everything is a conspiracy around here...
  25. Question, have you ever been to a fcc game? I’m confused about the comments about trash, I rarely see the level of trash (compared to reds or bengals game at Nippert) your referring to...also, I ask, because much of what makes fcc Ames exciting is coming early before the game and marching with the supporter groups and then afterwards celebrating the game. It’s not really a 3 hour event for most people but rather a whole day event. That’s why I’m curious if you have even been to any of the matches? It’s almost as if your comparing a soccer match to a reds game or bengals game which is just truly not the case. Berding/Linder already said that they will have concerts being hosted throughout the summer (I believe in association with promo west) similar to Mapfre stadium in Columbus and other shows that can utilize the 25-27k seat..on top of that Berding said they will have community events like movie night that will be hosted at the stadium. Berding also said that they will build mixed use development around the stadium that would include bars/restaurants/potentially residential units. Along with landscaping improvements to central parkway itself (let’s be honest it looks ugly af at the moment visually)... So with all due respect, 1400 Sycamore, I’m sincerely lost what would you have rather seen instead. Considering no one cares about the west end regardless for any type of true sizable investment.
